"No!" Kurt replied quickly, before his ex had time to panic, "You're not overstepping," he assured him, "I just figured that you would know all about my love life, from the magazines."
"I think we both know how magazines make things up, or blow them out of proportion," Blaine frowned, "I figured it would be better to hear from the source."
When Kurt became famous, Blaine quickly discovered how much he hated the media. Although New York wasn't nearly as bad as Los Angeles in terms of paparazzi, he constantly felt eyes and cameras on him every time they went out together. He grew accustomed to the flashes, clicks, and interruptions for Kurt's autograph throughout the years. He was never surprised whenever he went into a drugstore, and saw his husband on the front page of a gossip magazine. However, even though it was a part of his everyday life, that didn't make him despise the media any less. The straw that broke the camel's back was when he saw his distressed daughter on the front page of every entertainment magazine, in the midst of their custody battle. After that, he knew he had to leave New York, and away from the media, as soon as possible. He broke away from his thoughts when Kurt began to speak.
"Do you want to know about all of them, or just the serious ones?" Kurt asked nervously.
"Just the serious ones," Blaine Hart, "How about we share the ones that lasted over a year?" Kurt nodded, drumming his fingers on the dashboard, deep in his own thoughts.
"In fifteen years, I've only had four," he finally spoke. To say the least, Kurt was not proud of his love life following his divorce. "Three of them broke up with me because, surprise, I was too in love with my work."
"What about the other guy?" Blaine asked.
"You know what happened with him,” Kurt replied. The entire world knew what happened. Six years ago, his boyfriend of two and a half years proposed to him, on stage, in front of an entire Broadway audience. Like the coward he was, he turned him down and ran offstage crying, apologizing profusely. Immediately after, his ex went on every media news outlet, ranging from Entertainment Tonight to 60 Minutes, airing every bit of their dirty laundry as he could. Kurt even got a call from several talk shows, offering him to be a guest alongside his ex. Obviously, he refused, and not so politely asked them to respect his privacy. Of course, being the media, they milked his story for every penny it was worth. The perks of being a celebrity, Kurt thought bitterly.
"Well, for what it's worth, I'm happy you turned him down," Blaine replied, "I mean, it was obvious he took advantage of the fact that you are a celebrity, and used your story to get his fifteen minutes of fame." Blaine remembered that story all too well, because it was pretty much everywhere when the news broke out. He knew that Brandon Fitzgerald, Kurt's designer, always had a crush on his ex-husband when they were together. He always had a strange feeling that Kurt felt something for him as well, so it didn't surprise him when he learned of their relationship years later. Because of that, Blaine despised Brandon on principle. However, after two years of them dating, Blaine figured it was inevitable that Kurt would end up marrying the bastard. He was heartbroken when the scandal came out, because Kurt was made out to be a heartless, cold, horrible human being. He even watched all of Brandon's interviews, and the picture he painted of Kurt couldn't possibly be the same person he once knew.
"Can we please change the subject?" Kurt asked sincerely, "What about you? I'm sure you've had tons of guys bowing at your feet over the years." Blaine couldn't help but bark out a laugh, because that was far from the truth.
"Um, no. While I've had a few more relationships than you, none of them bowed, by any means," he smiled sadly.
"How can you not have... never mind," Kurt hesitated, "How many relationships did you have?"
"Eight, who lasted over a year."
"What happened with them?" Kurt's curiosity was getting the best of him.
"Well, I caught four of them cheating on me," he began, interrupted by a loud gasp.
"Four of them cheated on you? Are you kidding me?" Kurt couldn't even comprehend how anyone could do that to the amazing man sitting next to him.
"No, six of them did. But the other two were much more calculated." Kurt could not believe what he was hearing. He was openly staring at the best man he's ever met, speaking so nonchalantly about men who have broken his heart, and acting as if... as if it were somehow his fault. Blaine was surprised by his ex-husband's reaction. Considering the fact that he cheated on Kurt in high school, he figured it was simply karma catching up with him. What goes around, comes around.
"What about the other two?" He asked, partly to fill the silence, and partly because he hoped the other two guys were better than the ones that hurt Blaine.
"There was Jacob, who lasted a little over two years. I thought he was great in every area except one. The bedroom. He was..." Blaine didn't know how much detail about his love life would be appropriate to talk about with his ex-husband.
"Let me guess, he was exclusively a bottom, no exceptions," Kurt said, smirking when Blaine gave him the "how the hell did you know that" look.
"Kurt Hummel, you have telepathy. What number am I thinking of right now?" He joked.
"Eight." Kurt laughed when Blaine gave him that look again, "I'm not telepathic, dummy. That's your lucky number." After looking at him suspiciously, Blaine continued.
"Well, you're right about the bottom thing, but that's not what ultimately broke us up. Mostly, Lizzy didn't trust him. She was only fourteen, but she was smart, and one day she just came up to me while I was cooking dinner, and told me that Jake and I should break up. I asked her why, and she said she had a bad feeling about him lately. It was weird to me, because she truly did like him up until the end."
"What changed?"
"I wasn't quite sure until about a year after I broke up with him. We kind of ran into each other one day, and he admitted to me that he became addicted to OxyContin towards the end of our relationship. That was roughly around the time that Elizabeth warned me about him."
"I just... wow," Kurt sighed, "I don't know what else to say, other than that's our girl," he smiled.
"Oh, she gets better," he continued, "Now, my longest relationship happened right before she was leaving for college. She didn't like him from the very beginning, but it had nothing to do with who he was, but more of what his name was."
"What was it, Guy? Because if his name was Guy, then I completely agree with her."
"Actually, Guy was one of the guys who cheated on me, but that wasn't this guy's name," he said, taking a deep breath, "His name was Curt, but spelled differently."
"So, you broke up with him because he had my name? I'm confused."
"Not exactly, even though it was a bit weird saying his name. We were together for three years, and I was really happy with him. We had a ton of stuff in common, he was a top, thank God, and we just had a very comfortable, domestic relationship. We were even talking about marriage," he reminisced. Kurt could tell that Blaine's demeanor completely shifted. When he spoke about his other past boyfriends, it didn't seem like a big deal to him, but the way he was speaking about Curt, it was painfully obvious that he once meant the world to Blaine. "So, I brought it up to Elizabeth, and asked her how she would feel if I married him. She said that she would always feel like he wasn't good enough, because I would feel like he wasn't good enough." Blaine wiped his eyes before tears threatened to fall, but everything in his body ached; his heart, his lungs, the lump in his throat, but mostly just the memory. "I didn't want to believe her, so I just casually brought it up to him a few days later, kind of joking about it. And then he asked me the question that broke us up."
"And what question was that?" Kurt could feel his own eyes becoming damp.
"He asked me if he would ever be good enough," he replied sadly, "and I hesitated for about five seconds, which was all the answer that he needed."
"Oh my God, I'm so sorry," Kurt sniffled, feeling an overwhelming sense of guilt.
"She was right, though," he whispered. Because there was only one man who was good enough for him, and that man was sitting right next to him. The worst part about it, Blaine thought, was that he could never have him. "Anyways, subject change."
"Fantastic idea," Kurt agreed, "What was your biggest 'I feel so old' moment?"
"Good one, I'd have to probably say when Lizzy asked me who Meryl Streep was," he laughed, mostly at Kurt's horrified expression.
"For me, it was a few years back when I was walking down Central Park. An adorable little boy came up to me, and he must've been three years old, and some lady told me what a beautiful grandson I have. But Meryl Streep, really? I'm going to have a really long talk with Elizabeth, and possibly a DNA test, because that does not sound like my daughter."
"I still can't get over the fact that she died," Blaine replied.
"No she didn't. I am still very much in denial, so that subject is off-limits," Kurt was absolutely serious. She was not dead -- she was just on a really long vacation on a secluded island that no one has ever heard about. On the same island as Jennifer Lopez, Tom Cruise, Barrack Obama, Kate Middleton, Justin Timberlake, Angelina Jolie, and of course, Burt Hummel. And those people were just off the top of his head.
"I have a good one, do you have any foods that you used to love, but not anymore?" Blaine asked.
"Italian food," Kurt groaned, "For some reason, it just tastes sour to me. I have no idea why."
"That's like, the most tragic thing I've ever heard," his ex replied dramatically, "If I was a religious person, I would pray for you."
"Oh, shut up," Kurt slapped Blaine's arm playfully, "My turn. Have you lost any teeth yet?"
"Two, in the top right," he answered, "What was your most awkward one night stand?"
"Oh God, one night, I took a guy to my place because it was closer, and I must have been completely trashed, because he ended up spending the night. That morning, he made an elaborate breakfast, complete with freshly squeezed orange juice and flowers. So then he leaves, and I completely forget about him until a few weeks later when I go to the same bar, and I had a couple of hot guys dancing with me. I guess he saw, and made a scene in front of the entire place, saying that I was cheating on him, and saying how much he loved me, and how could I do this to him after all we've been through together? He didn't even know my name!" By the end of the story, both of them were laughing themselves to tears, "It was the most awkward moment of my life, forget about one night stands."
By the time they caught their breath, Blaine finally turned into the parking lot of the wedding shop. It looked pretty small, but from what he heard from Kurt and Elizabeth, it was very high-quality.
"Oh my God, Kurt, we got through an entire trip without arguing," Blaine smiled as he turned off the engine.
"Correction, we made it through half of the trip without arguing. We still have the car ride back," Kurt replied, but failed to hold back his own smile, "You are really going to love this place. The China is to die for! I would really take a bullet for those plates, I'm not even joking," Kurt continued speaking, but Blaine stopped listening. He was too busy being giddy over his ex-husband's excitement over plates. He knew it was becoming to be a problem, but as they made their way past the parking lot, and watching the boy next to him light up like a child on Christmas morning, he couldn't bring himself to care. He just wanted to enjoy the time they had together for as long as he possibly could, because he hasn't felt this satisfied with this life in a really, really long time.

I am loving this story. I cannot wait to see which one makes the first move, whether it will be a kiss or a tender touch. Surely their 'boyfriend' stories would show them that they are only right for each other!
Yay! I'm so glad I got that point across. Yes, they did spend so many years apart. They did have some relationships and some of them were good, some of them were bad, and some of them were ugly. They do have the ability to love other people. That's just reality, you know? But none of them have or will ever measure up to the love they have for each other. They are meant to be together. But hopefully I made the point that all of their relationships they've had with different people made them grow and made them realize that there's only one person who will make them complete. And that is each other. Thank you for the review!
Loved these two parts where they are walking down memory lane. It sort of breaks my heart for all the years they lost and all the other people who meant a lot to them (You see I don't like them with anyone else..). At least they are talking now. Can't wait for them to have cozy moments with each other. You have no idea how I look forward to your updates.
I love you! Thank you for following this from the beginning. It's really great to know that someone out there really enjoy something that I'm making up in my head. Things are still really complicated between them, and they have a lot to figure out as individuals and as a couple. We still have a long ways to go, and think you for your reviews. I feel like I can always count on you to give me that extra energy to keep this going. It's hard to know if people like what you're reading when nobody actually says it, you know? So thank you.
Gosh I love this story, it's soooo good!!! I love everything about it!!! I can't wait for the next chapters!!! :)
