Blaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiineeeeeeeee
Rachel....
Is Kurt with you?
Nope. Why? Is everything okay?
Ugh, no. Just he should have been home from work half an hour ago
Weird. Want me to text him?
He’d probably answer you. So yeah. Please
Sure.
Kurt
[silence]
Kurtlet?
[silence]
Snowflakes and coffee and rooftops.
[silence]
Sorry Rach. I’m not getting an answer. Maybe his phone died or something and he got held up at work?
Weird. One sec, I’ll text his coworker
Nope, he left at his usual time. I’m worried
Okay... well now you’ve got me worried.
I’m sorry, but you were the only person I could think of he might be with
Well, there’s Chandler, but Seb’s staying there so I don’t think Kurt would go there
Did you try anyway?
Can you try anyway?
I’ll try
Chandler?
Hey Rach, sup?
Not much, how are you?
I’m good. You don’t normally text me, though
Right. Sorry about that, you were always closer to Kurt and Seb than you were to me
It’s cool. So, why are you texting me?
Oh, just, is Kurt with you?
[silence]
CHANDLER YOU BETTER ANSWER ME THIS INSTANT
He left a while ago
But he was with you
Yeah. He wanted to check on something
Seb wasn’t there, was he?
[silence]
CHANDLER
No. He wasn’t. I gotta go shower, Rach, talk to you later?
Oh, yeah, sure. Thanks Chandler
Um, Kurt was at Chandler’s, but he left a while ago
Well, then where is he now?
I’m going to Starbucks. I’ll see if he’s there, or if they’ve seen him.
k. I... I’m going to Callbacks
Okay. This is a horrible time for a joke, but we’ll reconvene in an hour? Mission Find Kurt.
Yeah, sounds good. And yes. Horrible time for a joke
Okay, it’s been 56 minutes. That’s almost an hour. Kurt isn’t here, and no one fitting his description has been here since this morning.
Same news at Callbacks. I’m really freaked out
So, what do we do now? Where else could he be?
I don’t know! My best friend is missing and I can’t do anything about it and it hasn’t been the proper amount of time so we can submit a missing person report!!!!!!!
Do you really think he’s missing?
New York is a huge city. Anything could happen
Don’t tell me that...
kurtlet? seriously blaine?
OH THANK GOD YOU’RE ALIVE!
RACHEL.
He texted me.
OH MY GOD HE IS IN SO MUCH SHIT NOW
KURT ELIZABETH HUMMEL WHAT GIVES?
yeah im alive blaine whats going on
shit sorry rachel um i was visiting chandler sorry i was too busy to check my phone
yeah im alive blaine whats going on
Rachel and I have been looking for you for hours now.
She said you never came home from work.
She got me all worried.
i was at chandlers lots of talking didnt have time to check phone
Oh... When did you leave? Are you home yet?
no just left getting into taxi now actually
Let me know when you’re home.
Rachel.
He just told me that he *just* left Chandler’s. That he was getting into the taxi right now. And he’s not using punctuation in his texts. Something’s wrong.
The hell? That’s not what Chandler said. He’s going to be in so much trouble
Not using punctuation? That’s odd.
Who do we believe?
I’m more likely to believe Kurt. You know, cause I haven’t met Chandler. And things.
Well, you have a point there. Chandler and I never quite saw eye to eye. But why would he lie about something like that?
Did you say Sebastian was staying there?
I mean, I’m trying really hard to not be suspicious or assume anything.
Yeah, Seb’s staying with Chandler. But Chandler said he wasn’t there
I don’t know what to believe
Neither do I.
Let me know when he’s home.
And that he’s okay.
Will do
blaine i just got out of the taxi by my building you wanted to know
Kurt, are you okay?
yeah fine why
You seem really off.
what do you mean
This is going to sound crazy, but you normally use, like, capital letters and/or punctuation when we text. I like to think that I know a lot about texting you. Are you sure everything’s okay?
everythings fine blaine im just tired
Well, alright.
He just came in the apartment, and he’s barely talking, just went to his room
Rachel, something is wrong. Or off.
Go do your bff thing, and get him to spill it.
Alright, I’ll let you know
Thanks.
[an hour later]
Well
I’m never trusting Chandler again
Or talking to him
Or anything
What happened?
Kurt spent the evening drinking wine and chatting with Chandler, Seb and Wes
[silence]
I’m so pissed off
I’m sorry Rachel. I... need to go.
Al...right?
Why did you lie to me? (unsent)
Kurt, why didn’t you just tell me the truth? (unsent)
What happened? (unsent)
im lonely blaien
You’re home with Rachel, aren’t you?
rach isnt tlaking to me
Why’s that?
shes mad at me
I assumed that much. Why is she mad at you?
cause chandler lied and i didnt answer her or you
Why was that exactly?
why was what
Why didn’t you answer us?
cause i was busy talking
Talking about what?
What was so important you couldn’t have let me know you weren’t dead?
i was talking to my friend blaine havent you ever gotten caught up in a convo
Yeah, with you. When I was breaking you and Sebastian up, remember that? (unsent)
I guess so.
it wasnt that bad baline
[silence]
ur mad at me too
Kurt, why are you misspelling my name?
The amount of times you’ve typed it would have set it in your autocorrect by now.
no autocorrect dont like using it
You have never misspelled it before.
And I can’t think of a day other than today, when you haven’t used punctuation and capital letters.
why r u so mad at me?
[silence]
blianey why arent u answering me
[silence]
blaine pls dont abandon me now
I’ll never abandon you. Ever.
im so lonely right now
Do you want me to come over?
yes pls
I’ll be there in ten.
thanks sebbie
Seriously?

i know who you are
Yeah.

I can’t make it tonight.
but im so lonely
Maybe you should call Sebbie.

Have fun with that.
u said you coulndt make it
What are you talking about?
i see u outside
I thought you were calling Sebastian?

I am Blaine. Not *Sebbie* Sorry if that disappoints you.
i no who u r bliaen
dont go come up here pls
Why
cause i wana saay sorry in person
...Okay.
thannks
Moments later, Blaine is knocking at the Hummel-Berry residence door.
Rachel answers, looking upset.
“Blaine? What’s going on?”
It’s obvious that Blaine has been crying, and he tries not to look directly at Rachel.
“Kurt... asked me to come over.”
Rachel looks concerned, and she steps aside, jerking her thumb over her shoulder.
“He’s in his room. You’re lucky he’s actually willing to talk to you.”
“He... he called me, ‘Sebbie.’”
“WHAT?”
“I was already on my way here. He called me that... I kept walking, but I was angry. He said he wanted to apologize. I don’t know what to think.”
“Oh, Blaine, I can’t believe he did that... I’m so sorry... Tonight’s just been so crazy...”
“Yeah, it has. I’m gonna go talk to him now.”
“Okay. If you need me... I’ll be in the living room, watching Bye Bye Birdie.”
“Thanks.”
Reluctantly, Blaine heads to Kurt’s room, looking at the floor the whole way, and knocks lightly.
Inside the room, Kurt looks up from where he is, lying on his bed, and sighs, getting up to open the door.
“Hey.”
Blaine can’t bring himself to look at Kurt.
“...Hey.”
“Er, come in?”
Kurt gestures weakly over his shoulder and moves back from the door
“Thanks.”
Still with reluctance, Blaine follows the invite and steps into Kurt’s room, away from the door, awkwardly not sitting anywhere, and keeping his hands in his pockets.
Holding his hand to his temple, Kurt sits back down on the bed, staring at the floor.
“I’m sorry.”
Blaine starts to say something, but it gets caught in his throat, and he clears it.
“Oh.”
“Are you gonna say anything other than ‘oh’?”
“I don’t know what to say, Kurt.”
“Well, say something. I just apologised to you, Blaine.”
“Do you just expect me to say that it’s okay you called me by your ex’s name? I mean, I know we haven’t known each other for very long and you and him were together for a long time and everything, but... And... You’re being weird. Tonight.”
“What do you mean, Blaine? I didn’t... call you... I’m not... being weird...”
“Yes, you did. And, yes... you are.”
“When? How?”
“About twenty minutes ago. And you’re just... different. Like you’re... trying to hide something. I don’t know.”
“I’m not trying to hide anything, Blaine. It’s been a weird night, I talked to Chandler and the guys, and I don’t really know...”
“White lies are still lies, Kurt. So are half-truths.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I know... who you were with tonight. And what you were doing. And, it really sucks that you called me that.”
“Y-you know? How much do you know? I don’t... I don’t get it.”
“You were with Chandler. And Sebastian. And Wes. And you were drinking. And then, you come home, complaining that you’re lonely, so I come over, and before I can even get here, you call me ‘Sebbie.’ I’m sorry, Kurt. I just...”
“I only had a bit to drink, Blainey. Just a bit of wine, that’s all. And nothing happened. I was lonely because Rachie wasn’t talking to me. I don’t know why I said Sebbie. I just don’t know why this is all a problem.”
Blaine is silent for a moment, staring to the side as he thinks. He’s certain he’s come to a conclusion, and opens his mouth to speak as his eyes land on the jar of origami snowflakes that sits on Kurt’s nightstand. He squeezes his eyes shut for a second, and clears his throat again.
“It’s not. Nevermind.”
“What’s going on, Blainey?”
“Why are you calling me Blainey?”
“I don’t know, because it sounds good?”
“Oh.”
“Why are you mad at me?”
“Kurt, can we just not talk about this? I should just go home.”
“Why? What’s the matter? I screwed things up, didn’t I? Just because I wanted to hang out with a friend, you and Rachel get all upset at me, and I don’t even know why! This isn’t fair. You know what? Maybe you should go home. Since you’re obviously mad at me.”
“Spend time with a friend? Meaning Sebastian? Your ex boyfriend? Oh, and let’s throw in there my ex boyfriend too. And I’ll just remind you that they’ve been sleeping together since, hell, probably before you and Sebbie got together in the first place. So, yeah. Go ahead. Hang out with them all you want. Whatever. It doesn’t matter to me, if it doesn’t matter to you.”
In a bit of an angry gesture, Blaine takes two long steps over to the nightstand, grabs the jar of snowflakes, and grips it tightly. He turns around and stalks to the door, opening it, and turning, just barely, to look at Kurt.
“I don’t think you’ll need this.”
Kurt stands up and screams at Blaine
“I DIDN’T KNOW SEBASTIAN AND WES WERE GOING TO BE THERE!”
“Yeah. Sure.”
“I can’t believe you’re getting so JEALOUS over this! We talked. I talked to Chandler more than anyone else. We had some wine. Nothing happened.”
“If that’s all that happened, then why didn’t you just tell me in the first place? Cause hiding it sure doesn’t seem like it worked out well for you in hindsight, does it?”
“It wasn’t important! If Chandler hadn’t lied to Rachel, and I have no idea why he did, none of this would have ever happened!”
“There are a lot of things that, had they never been done, this would have never happened.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Nothing.”
“It means something. Are you saying...”
“I’m not saying anything.”
“Then why are you still here, Blaine?”
“I don’t know.”
The last syllable of the last word drops off, and Blaine squeezes the jar of snowflakes in his hand harder, looking away from Kurt.
“Go away.”
Blaine quickly walks out of Kurt’s room, attempting to make it out of the apartment without anymore confrontation.
“Everything alright? It sounded pretty rough in there, do you need me for damage control?”
“No. Everything’s fine. I’ve gotta go.”
“Al...right then?”
Quicker than before, Blaine exits the apartment, heading downstairs and out to the street, where he finally lets go of his held in emotions. He doesn’t care if the people on the street are staring as he lets the tears fall. The object in his hand is suddenly very apparent to him, and he stands there, looking at it for a moment, his hands shaking. Finally, he can’t take it anymore, and he hurls the jar at the bus stop, causing shattered glass and tiny, intricate snowflakes to fall to the ground, the snowflakes slower than the glass. He stares at the little tokens of his feeling as they cascade to the ground. It’s a minute or two before he stops doing just that, and starts his walk home.
Watching from his bedroom window, Kurt sees the whole thing. He stares, wide-eyed, as Blaine throws the jar. Once Blaine walks off, Kurt’s own tears start to fall as he walks back to his bed collapsing on it. He hears the door open and lets out a loud groan, glad that his roommate recognizes that he needs privacy. After a few moments of sobbing, he lifts his head and sees the original snowflake on his nightstand. He takes it in his hand and stares at it, blinking. Then, he throws it away from him, resuming his sobs.
