Kurt’s return to Ohio during winter break took a lot of planning. He’d had to miss Thanksgiving break because he was so swamped in work, so Finn set up a Skype date at the dinner table so it was kind of like he was there. But he hadn’t spent time with Blaine since he boarded the plane to New York.

Kurt decided that his plan would need a lot of work and secrecy. He talked to the current members of the glee club, his family, and even Mr Schuester. He had one day planned with Blaine and his family, and that was the fake day to throw Blaine off. Blaine believed that on the Saturday before Christmas, he was going with the Hudson- Hummels to the airport to greet Kurt.

What was actually happening was Kurt walking down the familiar hallway that lead to the choir room, making sure Tina had Blaine standing near the piano, but facing away from the door, entering like he never left, and casually joining their conversation by telling Tina that she looked lovely.

Blaine startled, stepping back a little bit to make sure the face matched the voice.

“Kurt!” Blaine squealed and threw himself at his boyfriend, their cheeks pressed tight together. A flow of words that they’d never said to each other before came rushing out.

“You smell so good.”

“You’ve gotten taller, B.”

There were also more familiar phrases.

“I missed you so much.”

“I missed you, too.”

“I love you so much.”

Sometime after that they kissed, almost sighing with relief. It had been way too long.

“I thought you weren’t getting in until the 22nd?” Blaine asked when they pulled apart. He kept a grip on Kurt’s forearms.

“Yeah, I lied.” Blaine just shook his head and went in for a less frantic hug.

“You really have gotten taller, Blaine.” Kurt said with a laugh when Blaine had to strain his neck a little bit to rest it on Kurt’s shoulder.

Blaine squeezed Kurt’s middle. “I’ve missed this.”

“Yeah, me too. Especially on long days.”

They broke apart when Mr Schuester came in the room. The teacher looked surprised to see Kurt before he remembered why he was there.

“Kurt, it’s good to see you again,” he clapped Kurt on the shoulder, “how’s college treating you?”

“It’s amazing. Everybody’s really great.” Will nodded and introduced Kurt to the younger members of the club. Kurt and Blaine stayed for the rest of glee, mostly so that Kurt could hug and catch up with his old friends. It was nice to be back.
