Hi. This is Blaine! I can't come to the phone right now. Leave your number and a brief message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can! Thanks!
Blaine's voicemail came on as Kurt pressed the end button on his phone.
He fell to the bed, "Damn."
Kurt wanted an answer to his question that Blaine had left to burn in his head for all eternity.
What did he mean by if he was staying?
Kurt picked his phone back up, checking if he had any new texts as he had been doing for the past two hours.
Normally he would hear from Blaine by now...but then he quickly remembered that they weren't together anymore.
"Hey Bud!" Burt called as Kurt came down the stairs.
Kurt flopped into a chair at the table, letting his phone hit the table with a loud bang.
"Kurt...? What's wrong?" Burt asked sitting down next to his son, taking a bite out of his sandwich.
"I...It's nothing, Dad."
"Well, to be honest, it doesn't really seem like nothing. So why don't you make this easier on both of us and just tell me what happened."
Kurt looked at his dad, "Fine."
He took a deep breath, looking down at his phone, realizing that he was going to have to change his background sometime soon since it was still Blaine.
He must have stared at his phone for too long, "It has to do with Blaine doesn't it?"
"Yeah...it does."
"Well then, start talking."
"I broke up with him yesterday."
"Why? I thought that you two were going to stick it out for the long run."
"I did too, Dad. But then, I started thinking about New York and how long distance relationships never work and how I didn't want to put Blaine through that, but mainly how I didn't want to have to go through all of it. I was being selfish and apparently wasn't thinking. And then Blaine got really mad at me, as you would expect him to, and he told me this heartbreaking story about his life that I now wish I didn't know. And then he left. I tried to make up this morning but we only had one class together and that was spent with him ignoring me and when he did talk to me, I only felt worse and then he said if I was staying, whatever the hell that means. I don't know if I even want to know...but he won't pick up his phone."
Tears began falling down Kurt's cheeks. Burt reached over and wrapped his son up in a hug as he rubbed his hair, not enough to mess it up and make the situation worse, but enough to comfort him.
"I miss him, Dad!" Kurt cried into his father's shoulder.
"I know." Burt knew that the problem would not be easily resolved and didn't want to give Kurt and false sense of hope, so he let him cry and just repeated the same two words. I know.
"I love him. It's not going to stop."
"I know."
"I..."
"I know...clean yourself up and get in the car."
"What...?"
"Kurt. Just do it."
Kurt wiped the tears from his eyes as he unglued himself from his father.
"Where are we going?" Kurt asked as they started driving.
It was getting dark and Kurt was confused.
"To Blaine's. You two need to have a civilized conversation and you need to tell him everything that you just told me at the house."
"I don't think that I can."
"Yes you can."
"He won't let me."
"The least you can do is try."
Kurt remained silent.
As they pulled up to the brightly lit house, Kurt felt his heart stop for a breif second.
"You can do this." Burt put a reassuring hand on his son's shoulder.
Kurt stepped out of the car and began the long walk up the driveway.
He knocked twice on the door.
"What are you doing here?" Mr. Anderson answered the door.
"Good evening to you as well, Mr. Anderson. I'm here to see Blaine."
Mr. Anderson looked Kurt up and down as a look of disgust formed on his face.
"Well, he isn't here."
"Would you care to tell me where he is?" Kurt asked getting slightly frustrated.
"Even if I knew, it's very likely that I wouldn't tell you. But I have no idea where he is. I thought he had gone to see you. I'll never understand why."
"I haven't seen him since first period and he won't answer his phone."
"Well his drawers have nothing in them and he took his guitar...it looks like he ran away. He won't last long."
"You aren't even going to look for him?" Kurt was furious but he was too busy panicking to get really angry.
"Why would I? He isn't my son. He hasn't been my son since the day he became one of you."
Kurt's eyes filled with tears as he turned from the door.
"So?" Burt asked as Kurt's buckled himself in.
"He ran away."
"He..."
"His brother must have come home. He told me about him yesterday. And then he seemed so happy this morning when he talked about not being here."
"What are you going to do?"
"Not give up."
"That's my boy."
