Chapter two

Kurt and Blaine got off the plane, it was freezing cold and light flurries of snow were blowing around. Blaine, who hadn't been north of California in three years shivered and wished he'd bought a better coat. In the end they hadn't even made it to Pittsburg, the airport was full so they had ended up in a small community airport near Greensburg Pennsylvania.

"Let's hire a car and drive to New York we could be there by the morning", Blaine said when they got into the terminal building and were warming up.

"The airport will be open by the morning, why don't we just hang out here, find a nice hotel have a meal together, are you really in that much of a hurry to get to New York?"

"I thought that you would be keen to get home", Blaine said.

"I am but I also like the idea of eating a nice dinner and sleeping in a proper bed".

"I guess so, but how are you planning on finding somewhere to stay?"

"It's called Google Blaine, there's a nice hotel here that got good review on trip advisor, it's next door to the town's theatre which is giving me good vibes".

"Ok then, lets give it a try".

They got a cab into town, it was snowing quite heavily now, and checked in, both using false names, though, the way the desk clerk looked at Blaine, Kurt didn't think they were fooling anyone. They booked themselves into the restaurant for dinner,

"Let's take a look at the theatre next door before we have dinner", Kurt said.

"But it's blowing a blizzard out there". Blaine said It was really snowing hard outside, "and it didn't even look like there was a show on".

"Then we'll only be a minute, you know how much I love old theatres. If we can't get inside we'll just come back to the hotel and get a drink.

However when they reached the theatre the door was open so Kurt went on in, Blaine trailing behind.

"Oh look how beautiful it is", Kurt exclaimed, it was in an art deco style, with lots of wood panelling and stained glass. "When I was in London I performed in some of the most beautiful theatres in the world but this has been restored so wonderfully I really think it could compete with them. We need to find out when the next show is on as I would love to see a production here."

He walked over to box office to look for information whilst Blaine hung back observing, he loved watching Kurt when he was excited like this, his passion was so attractive.

Kurt saw someone moving in the back of the box office.

"Hello", he called.

"Oh we're closed", he heard the woman say, her voice sounded strangely familiar.

"Miss Pilsbury?" Kurt exclaimed as the red headed woman turned to face him.

"Kurt!" She replied, "Oh my. It's not Miss Pilsbury anymore it's Mrs Shuester remember, well Emma actually, you aren't in High School anymore".

She came through the door beside the box office and pulled Kurt into a hug. It was only then that she spied the other man behind Kurt.

"And Blaine too! Wait till I tell Will that you are here in town, he'll be so excited", she said with a grin.

She reached for her phone, and made a call "Will I need you to come down the theatre right now, no nothing's wrong, there's just something that I need you to see".

"He's on his way".

"Why isn't there a show on?" Kurt asked when Emma had finished on the phone, "It's four days until Christmas surely the busiest time of the year".

"Well to be honest, things aren't going very well. We had something planned, we were going to put on a production of White Christmas but we couldn't afford to pay the actors so we had to cancel. I was here going through the books to see if there was anything we could do stop it going under. Will's just avoiding it, he won't admit that he failed. Don't tell him I told you. Now, how would you like a tour?"

Emma showed Kurt and Blaine around the grand old theatre until Will arrived though Kurt looked thoughtful and distracted as Emma talked, his initial excitement somewhat quashed with what Emma had told them.

"Emma what's so urgent that I had to rush over, I thought the whole place was on fire, which might have been a blessing".

Will stopped dead when he saw Kurt and then Blaine stood with Emma.

"Oh my God, I can't believe it, what are you doing here?" He pulled first Kurt and then Blaine into a hug. "And together too, I'm so pleased to see that."

"Oh we're not together," said Kurt embarrassed, and quickly replied, "we just happened to be on the same flight from LA, that got redirected to Greensburg and landed us here. Today seems to be a day full of coincidences".

Blaine's stomach knotted at how hastily Kurt had dismissed the thought of them being together and then was annoyed with himself for feeling that way. The last thing he needed in his life was to start falling for Kurt again, especially when it wasn't reciprocated.

Will told them about how they had come to buy the theatre. After the success of the McKinley High Glee Club, the one that Kurt and Blaine and the rest of the McKinley six had been a part of, Will as their teacher had found it difficult to replicate its success Then when he saw how many of his old students had managed to make their dreams come true he realised he wanted more than teaching to fulfil him. He and Emma had been visiting some college friends of Emma's when they had seen the theatre for sale and fallen in love with it, they had poured all their savings into rescuing it. He talked about the productions they'd done, not mentioning its recent difficulties that Emma had told them about.

"How about you come back to our apartment and have some dinner with us?" Emma asked when Will finished talking.

"We can't", Blaine said, "We have a table booked for dinner at the hotel". Blaine felt a little bit bad but he felt uncomfortable with what Emma had said about the theatre and he also, selfishly he thought, wanted to have some time alone with Kurt.

"Oh that's too bad it was nice seeing you", said Emma as they hugged and said there goodbyes.

Later at the restaurant Kurt continued to look thoughtful This wasn't going at all like Blaine had hoped it would.

"Kurt, what's the matter you've been distracted since we went to the theatre?" Blaine asked.

"I'm just sad that after all he did for us all its such a shame that this isn't working out for him. And that beautiful theatre should be full of music and dancing not sitting empty".

"It just needs a big name", Blaine said "someone to bring people in from out of town".

"Oh Blaine, you're a genius, I could kiss you", Kurt exclaimed excitedly. "That's it, we could perform here, put on a show. Will said that they were going to do White Christmas and you are about to have a big hit with that song, imagine how many people who would pay to see you in that role."

"I need to be in New York tomorrow. I have work to do".

"But Blaine do you really need to, your track is already platinum just with preorders, you don't need to promote it".

"How did you know that?" Blaine asked, it seemed Kurt was still taking an interest in him.

"I like to keep track on what you are up to", Kurt said smiling and slightly bashfully. "I know that I have no right to comment on your life Blaine," Kurt continued "but it seems to me that you are working over Christmas to avoid something, to avoid living your life. Christmas is a time for family and old friends, stay here with me and let's help out someone, some people, who were like family to us once upon a time".

Blaine knew he should be working, people were relying on him particularly the charities he supported but the opportunity to spend more time with Kurt was just too good to refuse. He also owed Will and Emma a lot for supporting him and making him feel so welcome when he had transferred to McKinley in his Junior year.

"Ok Kurt, I know you are talented but how are the two of us going to stage a musical in three days?"

"I've been thinking about that, the sets for White Christmas had already been made and Will will have paid the licence fee to stage it, so I was thinking that we keep most of the songs and the general gist of the story but up date it, set it in the present day and I was thinking of calling in some favours from some old friends. I'm sure Rachel would be up for helping out, she's not been on stage since the twins were born. I have Mercedes number and can track down Santana fairly easily, what about you Blaine?"

"I have Mikes number, he choreographed one of my tours, what about the rest of New Directions do you want to invite them all?"

"As many as possible, one thing the New Directions were good at was delivering under pressure and to short timescales".

"But what about the weather, how are Rachel and Finn going to get here from New York if the airports are closed?" Blaine asked.

"They are current in Ohio with the Parents, they were planning to drive back to New York tomorrow, so can easily come here instead if I give them a call. And I have faith that the airports will be open in the morning".

When Kurt woke the next morning the snow had stopped and it was a clear crisp morning in Greensburg. The New York airports were open again but it was going to be a few hours until flights returned to normal. Kurt had spoken to Rachel last night and she had agreed to join them as soon as they could drive up there. He'd also left a message for Mercedes. He hadn't slept well mostly trying to plan what needed to be done, but also trying and failing to keep thoughts of Blaine out of his head. He kept remembering, how it felt when Blaine touched him, kissed him, the first time they met, their first kiss, the first time Blaine told him he loved him. He tried to balance these feelings with remembering how he'd felt when Blaine had betrayed him but after all this time though he could still remember the pain he didn't actually feel it anymore. But he couldn't start developing feelings for Blaine again he had to think about Oliver.

He felt bad that he hadn't told Blaine about Oliver, he told himself that the subject had never come up but actually he was scared to, scared that if he told Blaine that there was someone in his life then he would leave, go to New York and Kurt wouldn't be able to enjoy being around him anymore.

Kurt and Blaine met at breakfast and Kurt produced a schedule for the day. He was going to the theatre to fill Will and Emma in on their plans of trying to put on the production and doing an inventory of what props and equipment they had that they could use. Blaine was to contact as many former members of New Directions as he could and pull in whatever other help he could get from his contacts in the industry.

Kurt and Blaine got back together in the afternoon to implement the second part of the days plan. Blaine was due to do a live web chat that afternoon to promote his new single but instead he and Kurt had recorded a you tube clip to be linked to from both Blaine and Kurt's Twitter accounts.

"Hi, its Blaine here and I'm with my good friend Kurt Hummel. I know you were all expecting to hear my new single and a live web chat but there's been a change of plan. Kurt and I would like to tell you all about a project that we are both involved in. A good friend of ours runs a theatre in Greensburg Pennsylvania and this Christmas we are doing a reboot of White Christmas staring the both of us and some other good friends of ours who you may know. We would like you all to support this venture by, if you can by buying a ticket and coming to see the performance, those of you that can't get tickets you can watch it online. For more information and for details about tickets please go to Kurt or my websites. The tickets go on sale on 22nd December at 9.00 either at the box office at Greensburg or via the web link. And now we will give you all a small taste of what you can expect on Christmas Eve. In High School Kurt and I were famous for our Christmas duets and here's one of our favourites."

Blaine sat down at the piano on the stage of the theatre and Kurt sat down beside him.

"The weather outside is frightful
But the fires so delightful
And since there's no place to go
Let it snow let it snow let it snow"

By the time Rachel and Finn arrived that evening the you tube clip had had 7,000 hits and Kurt and Blaine's websites 3,000.

Rachel entered the hotel like a whirlwind demanding to visit Will and say hello. It was all Kurt could do to persuade her not go to the theatre and wait until the morning when everyone else was due to arrive. In the end he had to give her full artistic control over her own solos and promise her to dish all the dirt on him and Blaine to get her to agree. Not that there was anything to dish, they had hardly spent any time together that day.

"What about Oliver?" Rachel hissed after watching Kurt's flirty you tube performance with Blaine, "he's bound to have seen it even over in London".

"There's nothing for him to be concerned about Rachel, there's nothing between me and Blaine and anyway Oliver made his feelings for me pretty clear when he chose to spend Christmas in England".

"You hardly made if difficult for him Kurt, if you'd asked him to, he'd have stayed".

"I was hardly going to beg him to stay Rachel".

"I know that Kurt, but he needed to feel wanted, you act so independent Kurt, never wanting to appear like you need anyone but Oliver just wants to feel needed and asking him to stay would've made him feel that way. And now he'll see you with Blaine all over the Internet not to mention reading all the fan comments from those desperate for you two to get back together. You should at least call him Kurt and put his mind at rest, that is of course unless you are more interested in a certain curly haired former boyfriend".

"Look Rachel the only thing I'm interested in at the moment is getting this performance organised, just leave my love life out of it".

End Notes: I'm sorry Kurt has a boyfriend but there had to be little drama in order to make the outcome sweeter.
