Chapter one

"It's a wrap", Kurt heard Brad the Director shout as he reviewed the script for the next episode.

He couldn't quite believe that it was last filming day of December and they were already thinking about the Valentine's Day episode or that it was 90 degrees outside. He hated LA but he enjoyed being an Executive Producer and occasional guest star on a TV show about a High School show choir that reminded him of the one he had been a member of all those years before.

And those years had been good to Kurt Hummel, yes he'd had a blip at the start, not getting into NYADA at first attempt, but once he did, his career had been everything he'd dreamed about. He started on Broadway but the lack of lead roles for someone as unique as him had led him to doing what his Dad had suggested, in his Senior year when he had failed to get the role of Tony in West Side Story, writing and producing his own Tony award winning productions. Two years ago a friend from NYADA had pitched an idea for a TV series about a high school show choir and Kurt had come on board as an Executive Producer. However as much as Kurt enjoyed working on the show, especially mentoring the young actors many of whom were in their first major roles, he hated Hollywood it was too hot and too glossy, he preferred having four seasons and the gritty realism of New York. That's why now that filming was finished he was going back to his rented house, to shower and change before getting on a plane back to New York to spend Christmas in his own home with his best friend Rachel and her husband, his Step Brother, Finn.

-----------------

Blaine Anderson was also in a studio in LA but this time a recording studio, in his own home. He was recording his sixth album, his first studio album in three years and it felt good to be back writing and recording again. He'd spent years on the road since the success of his first album 10 years ago, and even though he loved performing he had been ready to take a three year break to put down some roots and finally own a home.

He closed the lid of his piano and made his way back to the main part of the house and into the kitchen to get a soda from the fridge, his two Great Danes, Pink and Perry, bounded over to greet him. As he scratched their heads he looked at them sadly, knowing that he was going to miss them over the next two weeks as he was due to fly to New York later to do some promotion of his new single, a modernised version of the classic White Christmas, which looked like being Christmas number one in about 20 countries around the world, He was also scheduled to do a couple Charity gigs that he supported every year and a couple of nights at Carnegie Hall. Though he loved LA with it's constant sunshine and laid back vibe, he didn't mind working at Christmas as he would be on his own again as usual.

-------------

Kurt always arrived at airports early, even though since he became successful he could turn up ten minutes before boarding and still get to his seat, he still hated being late, so he was sat in the VIP lounge reviewing scripts and checking twitter. He was so engrossed in his work that he failed to hear the news report of the violent snow storms being forecasted for the east coast or see the curly headed man, he'd once known very well, enter the lounge and go to the bar.

Blaine arrived at the airport a little flustered, his dog sitter had turned up late and then his car hadn't arrived so he'd had to drive himself. He just wanted to get a drink and chill out before he arrived in New York and his crazy schedule began. He picked up his drink and looked for a table when his attention was drawn to a familiar profile, frowning in concentration, before him. Just for a second his heart skipped a beat and he was taken right back to being a love struck teenager again, but just as quickly he was grown up Blaine again spying an old friend and going over to say hello.

"Hi there" said Blaine "it's been a while".

"Oh Blaine!" Kurt said, "good to see you".

"I saw you were in LA and I meant to get in touch" Blaine said apologetically.

"Don't worry about it, I know how it is".

Kurt got up from his seat and pulled Blaine into a hug. It was no secret that Kurt and Blaine had been high school sweethearts, both of them had talked about it openly in interviews etc, though neither had told the truth about why they broke up. In fact books had been written about the McKinley six, six members of the Nationals winning show choir group, New Directions, who had gone on to be international stars. Mercedes Jones, Grammy Award Winner, Rachel Berry, Tony and Oscar Award Winning Actress, Mike Chang, internationally renowned dancer, choreographer and Dancing with the Stars judge and Santana Lopez multimillion dollar action movie star along with Kurt and Blaine. They all saw each other from time to time in restaurants and award ceremonies and meant to reconnect but with the exception of Kurt and Rachel who were not only best friends, but family too, life was just too busy to find time to hang out with old friends. Kurt and Blaine were no different, after their break up they had eventually become friends again but Blaine had decided not to go to NYADA and Kurt had got his first small role on Broadway and it made it harder and harder to find the time to just hang out. Eventually after a year or so they maybe only saw each other a couple of times a year and once Blaine started touring, only emailing and texting until they had just drifted a part. However it didn't mean that they didn't still care about one another or want to still be in touch, life just got in the way.

Blaine pulled up a chair and sat down across from Kurt.

"You don't mind if I join you do you?" Blaine asked.

"It looks like you already have", Kurt said laughing.

Blaine watched Kurt's face as he smiled and marvelled at how good he looked. Of course he had seem him on TV and in photographs but up close he realised that the years had been kind to him, there was barely a line around his eyes, his hair was softer and more natural than he used to wear it and it made him look even younger. On the other hand Blaine knew he looked older, and recently he had spent too much time in the California sun. He didn't gel his hair anymore and when he was working he tended to let it grow out along with his beard so he was glad he'd had a hair cut and shave sitting here with Kurt who was always so put together.

"God you look good Kurt", Blaine said without thinking first.

"You don't look so bad yourself Blaine, at least you've lost the beard".

"When have you seen me with a beard?"

"About six months ago I saw you sitting in a coffee shop near the TV studio".

"Why did you come over and say hello?"

"You looked so engrossed in what you were doing and I had to get back to the studio and I" Kurt looked down sheepishly, "and I guess I didn't know what to say."

"Hello would've been a start".

"I know Blaine, you're right, I should've said hello."

"Wait" said Blaine with a smirk, "Kurt Hummel is telling Blaine Anderson he is right, my god things have changed".

Kurt laughed and lightly punched Blaine on the arm.

-----------

"Flight 5500 to New York is now boarding first class passengers." An electronic voice said over the tannoy.

"Well that's us", Blaine said getting up, "where are you sitting". They compared tickets and then walked to the plane.

-----------

"Do you mind if we swap seats, I haven't seen my friend here since College and I would really appreciate it if we could sit together?"

Blaine smiled his charming Blaine smile and the elderly lady, who obviously had no idea who either of them were, moved into Blaine's seat so he could sit down next to Kurt. Kurt could tell what the woman was thinking, what a nice polite young man he was. That was what Kurt most admired about Blaine, even though he was an international star now, he never lost his easy charm, his dapperness as Kurt liked to call it. Whilst Kurt had the reputation of being a diva, unjustified in his opinion, the most Blaine was criticised for was perhaps lacking an edge, being too easy going and charming and that certainly wasn't a fault in Kurt's opinion. Even through Blaine's reclusive period his press had been good to him whereas when a journalist had written an article exposing the private details of Kurt and Blaine's relationship (mostly untrue) to the world, Kurt hadn't been able to access his twitter account for weeks because of the vile messages that had been left on there. Blaine however was pretty much left alone.

As if reading his thoughts, Blaine suddenly said

"I'm really sorry you know Kurt, about all those horrible things that were said about you".

"It wasn't you fault Blaine".

"I know but I really wanted to say something, put the record straight."

"Blaine you did the right thing, we've both been in this business long enough to know that when you try to take these people on you only make things worse".

"I know, but it was me who cheated Kurt, it was me who took our relationship and threw it away, I should've been vilified as the bad guy not you".

"Then maybe you should stop writing such sad songs", Kurt said with humour in his voice, "stop people feeling sorry for you".

...........

"Do you wanna hang out sometime whilst we are in New York?" Kurt asked, after they had chatted for a while longer.

"I don't know if I can Kurt, my schedules pretty hectic"' Blaine replied and then immediately chastised himself. This is what had gotten them into this situation of not talking to Kurt for 10 years, being too busy with work and where had that got him, he was lonely, had been lonely for years and now here he was reconnecting so easily with his first and only real love and he was blowing him off because of work.

"Actually, yes, I'm sure I can find the time to hang out sometime". Then he thought, oh no what if Kurt's with someone, he hadn't read about anything online, but then again Kurt was such a private person he was likely to keep it very quiet.

He was just about to ask, the question he really didn't want to know the answer to, but before he could the pilot made an announcement.

We have just had news from air traffic control that all New York airports are closed for bad weather and we are being redirected to Pittsburg.

Hey, great start. I love that you included Mercedes and Mike in the McKinley Six (they are tragically undervalued this season) and I love your Kurt and Blaine of course. I'm really looking forward to reading more. Awesome job.

Thank you so much for the feedback. Next chapter should be up at the weekend
