But he was right, Blaine didn’t really know Kurt. He was one of those people who’s appeal rests mainly in their mysterious, enigmatic quality. Blaine convinced himself that the idea of Kurt was probably more interesting than the boy himself.
One day, when Kurt was last thing in Blaine’s mind, he was sitting alone in The Lima Bean enjoying his coffee and listening to Adele’s new album. Sebastian had something to do with his family and hadn’t told Blaine until Blaine was already at The Lima Bean. That was just like Sebastian. But it was cold out and Blaine didn’t have anything better to do with his day, so he’d decided to stay.
“Still the same table.” The voice came from behind him. but he knew who it was. He decided to mess with Kurt and continued listening to his music, pretending that he didn’t hear him.
“Are you ignoring me? You’re ignoring me. Well that’s just rude, Blaine. I thought we were friends. Really? You’re gonna just make me look like I’m talking to myself. You know what? I’m going to mess up your hair. I’ll do it. In 3...2...1!”
All of a sudden Blaine felt hands on his head, the fingers moved roughly through his hair, but it didn’t budge. He finally took his headphones out and laughed.
“I kind of have a built-in helmet.”
Kurt took his hands off Blaine’s head and then looked at it incredulously. “Yeah, no kidding. Between coffee and hair gel you must be on a tight budget.” Blaine was laughing again and all of a sudden his whole ‘mysterious-enigma’ image of Kurt was shattered again. The truth was he didn’t trust himself around Kurt. No one had ever made him question his relationship with Sebastian quite like Kurt did.
Which is why he couldn’t continue talking to Kurt.
“I... I can’t talk today.”
Kurt’s smile faded. He was still just standing next to Blaine’s chair and he looked around. “Waiting for someone?”
“Well...No.”
“Are you busy?”
Blaine blushed. “No.” He didn’t know why he couldn’t just lie.
“But you can’t talk?”
Blaine looked down at his coffee.
“It’s okay, I get it. No hard feelings, I wouldn’t want your boyfriend’s hidden cameras to catch us talking!” The sarcasm stung Blaine a little.
“He’s not all that awful.” He couldn’t even make that sound believable.
“I’m sure. I’ll see you around, Blaine.”
Kurt touched Blaine’s shoulder and walked away. Blaine felt a pit in his stomach. He really liked talking to Kurt, why did he have to let Sebastian control everything, even when he wasn’t there?
“Wait! Kurt-”
Kurt turned around. “Hmm?”
“I actually can talk.”
Kurt smiled. “Sorry, I can’t.”
Blaine watched Kurt leave and swiveled around, slumping a little in his chair. When he lifted the headphones back to his ear they were playing “Never mind I’ll find someone like-” he threw them back on the table. He reached up and patted his gelled hair, where Kurt’s hands had been just minutes ago.
Why did he care so much about a boy that he knew nothing about? They hadn’t had more than one and a half actual conversations together and he was already feeling emotional about possibly offending Kurt.
It doesn’t matter anymore, Blaine thought to himself, If he didn’t already hate me before because of Sebastian there’s no doubt he does now.
Comments
Okay the part when he put the headphones back in was just perfect. Its so aggravating the way Sebastian treats Blaine. Ugh he annoys me so much. I like this fic though. :)
another great chapter
