Author's Notes: Holy writer's block, Batman! I'm so sorry. I had the first chapter started, then I couldn't write ANYTHING for about seven weeks. I'm back in the swing of things now, and the box scene inspired me to get back to work on this. WARNING: mentions of homophobia, transphobia, and character death (non-canon) in this chapter)
The kiss was suddenly ended by a panicked Kurt. “Oh my god, Blaine. What am I going to wear? What are you going to wear? Because neither of us are going to get married wearing blue jeans or boat shoes.”

Blaine couldn’t help but laugh. Leave it to Kurt to start worrying about their attire. “Calm down, honey,” he said, gently rubbing Kurt’s shoulders. “We can wear the suits we planned on for tonight, can’t we?”

“I suppose so,” Kurt huffed. “What about traditions, though?”

“What traditions?”

“You know…something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue?”

Blaine cocked an eyebrow. “Isn’t that meant more for the bride?”

“It’s my wedding, Blaine, and I want to do it,” Kurt said.

“Okay.” Blaine replied with a nod. He walked over to the standard hotel room dresser and began rummaging through one of the drawers he was using. “I think I may have brought something that can…a-ha!” Turning around, he held up a royal blue, metallic bow tie. “Want this?”

Kurt stared at the bright piece of fabric in his fianc’s hand. “Really? It’s a little loud, don’t you think?”

“When has that ever mattered in your clothing choices, Kurt? Besides, I’m just trying to help you out. I bought it last month, so it can be considered new. It’s obviously a shade of blue and will complement the gray of your suit. And I want you to borrow it.”

“Fine,” Kurt said, taking the tie, “but what about the something old?”

After thinking for a moment, Blaine replied, “the picture of your mom in your wallet.”

Kurt nodded. “Yeah, that should work.”

They quickly changed clothes and redid their hair. Blaine chose to acknowledge the tradition as well. His items were easier to pick out: a navy suit, cufflinks his grandfather gave him for his thirteenth birthday, wingtips he purchased at the mall that morning, and a crimson pocket square Kurt had packed but not yet used on the trip. Once Kurt deemed them wedding-appropriate, Blaine took out his laptop to look up the list of chapels for Kurt to choose from, along with Clark County’s requirements for a marriage license.

Any lingering doubts Kurt had about the decision vanished once Blaine brought up the website for the Two Hearts Chapel. “This is the one!” he exclaimed.

“Are you sure?” Blaine asked with a smile. “There’s still three other places to look at.”

“Absolutely sure,” he responded. “Look right here. ‘Two Hearts Chapel is proud to welcome the LGBT community to receive the same packages and treatment from our family that we have offered to heterosexual couples for the past twenty-seven years.’ They want our business, Blaine!”

Blaine pressed his lips to Kurt’s cheek. “I know, babe. They were my first choice, in fact. I’ll go ahead and call them to make sure we can get in today, okay?”

Kurt nodded, watching Blaine enter the chapel’s number into his phone before he shut the computer. It amazed Kurt how many moments in their relationship were initiated by Blaine. He was the one to kiss Kurt, the first to say I love you, the one to drop the comfort of Dalton to be united every day. He began the talk that led to them becoming intimate, flew to New York senior year whenever he had extended time off school, and formally asked Kurt to move in with him as soon as he signed the lease to his post-dormitory place midway between NYU and Columbia. With all those moves, it was a shock to almost everyone that Kurt was the one to propose. But he did it, on a rainy day in June in between watching When Harry Met Sally and The Notebook.

Blaine’s voice interrupted his reminiscing. “We lucked out. They didn’t have any weddings booked this evening, so we’re able to get in at 6. That should give us enough time to get the license get to the chapel, and get hitched before we need to be at Andre’s.”

“Get hitched? If you start referring to our wedding as that, I may have to reconsider.”

“That’s the thing, Kurt. You won’t.”

He had to roll his eyes. Of course Blaine was right and he wouldn’t call it off. “Whatever. Are you ready to hitch yourself to me?”

“I was ready the moment you tapped my shoulder on the stairs,” Blaine said. Kurt took his outstretched and they departed their room.
Their eyes remained locked for the duration of the elevator ride down and walk across the gaming floor. Blaine only looked away to give the cab driver the address to the marriage license bureau. At the driver’s look of disgust upon realizing their destination, Kurt squeezed Blaine’s hand. Of course having what they wanted was too much for others to take.

Thankfully for them, the drive to the license bureau was quick and they rushed out of the cab as soon as Blaine had the change from the fare in his hand. It turned out that Thursday was a slow day overall for marriages. They were in line no more than five minutes and had all the paperwork filled out in fifteen.

Once they were back outside and had hailed another, nicer cab, Kurt broke the silence. “We’re really doing this.”

Blaine hummed in agreement. “We are.”

“How long were you waiting to tell me you wanted this?”

Kurt watched his fianc take a deep breath. “I always thought about eloping, even when I was younger,” Blaine began. “Just running off to Connecticut, Massachusetts, Canada, anywhere that it was legal. I knew the likelihood of my parents witnessing me marry someone who wasn’t female was extremely slim. Then I met you, and you’ve been working on your dream wedding since you could distinguish shades of green. Once I knew you were the one, I put the idea on the backburner because I knew a Kurt Hummel Extravaganza was going to be the only way it would go for us.”

Kurt leaned in to chastely kiss Blaine. “I appreciate the sentiment, but why did you change your mind?”

“When you asked me to marry you, it threw me off. I had gone over so many plans on what I would do and when I would do it for the past year and a half. It was coming, by the way. Christmas Eve.” Kurt began laughing while Blaine continued on. “But then you beat me to the punch and I soon realized I wasn’t going to have much of a say in any aspect of the planning.”

“Blaine, you know that isn’t true,” Kurt interrupted.

“I know, Kurt. I know you would ask for my input on everything. But the only thing I need when it comes to marrying you is…well, you. So I began thinking about how to ask you to just forget everything and go to the justice of the peace. Then Santana called asking us to fly out, and I remembered how anything can happen here.”

“What about my plans?”

Blaine picked up Kurt’s hand and held it in both of his. “We can have a ceremony next year for everyone. Like I said, all that matters to me is that you’re there.”

There was a tense silence in the cab as Kurt’s memory flashed back to a specific moment early in their relationship. “Do you remember our first Christmas? The promise ring?” he asked.

Blaine chuckled. “Yeah, I couldn’t chew any more gum for months after that,” he said.

Kurt stared at Blaine. “Do you remember how I thought it was an actual engagement ring at first?”

“And you immediately said you wanted to run off to New York and get married?”

Kurt nodded. “I guess, deep down, I always wanted this. Just you and me expressing our love and commitment for each other. I don’t need the lavish affair, Blaine…now that’s not saying I don’t want it, because it’s going to happen. I only need you as my husband.”

Tears had begun running down Blaine’s face. “I love you, Kurt. I love everything about you. And I love that we’re promising ourselves to each other. It’s been a pretty damn insane journey, but this is only the beginning.”

They fell into each other’s arms, refusing to let go until the cab pulled up to the chapel. After they paid, the driver turned around and spoke to them. “Congratulations, boys. I’ve driven many a couple to get married, but I have never seen one as madly in love as you two. You know, I was against the marriage law passing. The Lord wouldn’t want it going on under His watch. Now I understand why it did. You deserve it much more than I do. I’ve been there three times and none of the ladies lasted with me. Good luck, boys. It’s a long road, but I bet you two will make it.”

Kurt was stunned at the driver’s speech. “Th-thank you, sir,” he stammered. “I bet we will too. And I hope you do find the one.”

They climbed out and turned towards the building. As Kurt began walking towards the entrance, Blaine held back, staring at the doors. “What’s wrong?” Kurt asked.

Blaine shook his head. “Nothing.”

“Obviously it isn’t nothing.”

“No, it’s something good…do you realize these are our final moments as Kurt Hummel and Blaine Anderson? That when we leave here, we’ll be the…”

Kurt made his way back to where Blaine stood. “We never decided on the last name thing, did we?”

“Nope,” Blaine responded with a chuckle. “For some reason, I always pictured it as Hummel-Anderson. You first because you’re the star, and I’m the rock behind you, supporting everything.”

“Just when I think you’ve finally met your cheese quota…” Kurt joked. “It does sound good, though. You ready now?”

He held a hand out for Blaine, who took it and kissed the back of it. “Ready.”
Walking in, Kurt was amazed at the dcor. He knew Las Vegas had a knack for tacky, but Two Hearts was elegant and intimate, just right for them. An older lady wearing a black dress suit and a silver bob came from the office off to the side to greet them. “Hi! You must be Blaine and Kurt?”

“We are indeed,” Blaine confirmed, shaking the woman’s hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Joanne.”

“Likewise. My husband is finishing the setup right now, so we can go ahead and get started on the paperwork,” Joanne said, leading them into the office.

While it wasn’t the same amount as when they received the license, there was still a substantial amount of forms they needed to fill out. Despite Kurt’s insistence on paying, Blaine eagerly gave his credit card to Joanne (”It was my idea, Kurt, so I’ll pay for it.”).

After she collected the forms, she smiled at them. “Blaine, Kurt, I want you to know how much it means for Billy and I to perform your ceremony. Ever since we lost our Amanda, we wanted to give back to the community she was a part of.”

Kurt’s face fell. “I’m sorry, Joanne. We both know what it was like to be harassed for our sexuality.”

“We were both run out of our high schools for it,” Blaine chimed in. “That’s actually how we met, at a private school with a zero tolerance policy.”

She nodded. “Amanda wasn’t lucky enough to have that. I…I named her Andrew when she was born. We knew she was different growing up when she wanted to take ballet instead of join the flag football team. And at seventeen she came to us about looking into gender reassignment. Unfortunately, the boys at her school didn’t take to her real identity…” She broke off tearing up. “I’m sorry. This is supposed to be a happy day for you and I’m just bringing you down. But we have always fought for equal rights. We offered commitment ceremonies up until the day the Marriage Law went into effect. This means as much to us as it does to you.”

“We thank you for this,” Blaine said.

There was a knock on the door as a stout, balding man entered. “I have everything set up now, Jo. These the grooms?”

Joanne nodded. “Blaine, Kurt, I’d like you to meet my husband, Billy Ridge. He’s going to officiate the ceremony and I will be your photographer and witness.”

Billy shook their hands. “Right this way, boys.”

As Billy led them towards the chapel, he kept walking until he reached the back door. He opened it and ushered them outside. Kurt gasped at the sight. Before him was a gazebo decked out with white roses and fresh ivy. Candelabras lined the aisle and behind the gazebo. It was as perfect as he could have imagined.

“I remembered you wanted an outdoor ceremony,” Blaine said. Kurt could only nod.

“Alright,” Billy interrupted, “did one of you want to stand up front or are you walking down together?”

“Together,” Kurt and Blaine chimed in unison.

Billy nodded. He made his way towards the gazebo as Joanne grabbed her camera. Blaine turned to Kurt and said, “Give me your ring.”

“What?” Kurt asked, confused.

“We don’t have actual wedding rings so we’ll have to use our engagement ones,” Blaine responded as he twisted his off.

Kurt sighed. “I guess you’re right.” For the second time in less than four hours, he removed the metal from his left hand to give to Blaine, who exchanged it with his ring. They each pocketed it.

Blaine took in a deep breath. “You ready, almost husband?”

Kurt nodded. “So ready.” They waited for Joanne to turn on the wedding march on the stereo system, and then walked down the aisle towards their future. Kurt was vaguely aware of Joanne’s camera shutter going off. He felt like he was on a cloud with nothing surrounding them but the open sky.

As they reached the gazebo, Billy smiled at the two and began. “We gather here today to witness a very special occasion. These two gentlemen, Blaine and Kurt, are not only committing themselves to each other, but joining into holy matrimony.”

He listened to the speech, only looking at the man standing to his left. This was the moment he dreamed of nearly six years ago, when he was nave enough to think Blaine loved him back. Once they discovered what love truly was, he knew there was no way he would let go. People always said high school sweethearts never lasted…his father, Blaine’s parents, the boys at NYU who consistently asked him out while Blaine was stuck in Ohio, even Rachel conceded to this notion once she and Finn ended things for good. But here they stood, proving the statistics wrong. In fact, four years after graduation, four of the couples from New Directions were still together, though Sam and Mercedes seemed to be off almost as much as they were on.

Finally, it was time for their vows. “Kurt, Blaine said that he would make his own. Would you like to do the same?” Billy asked.

“Yes, sir,” he nodded. He was unprepared, but had taken an improve class so he felt like he could do it. Turning towards Blaine, he began. “Blaine, you entered my life when I was at my lowest. You showed me that it can get better, and it did. With your guidance, I began finding myself again. And in turn, we found each other. Falling in love with you was nothing like I expected. It was so much better, and it keeps building every day. I look forward to everything with you. To you being named teacher of the year. To looking out in the audience as I receive my first Tony and finding your smile. To raising a family. To taking care of you when you have the smallest cold because you turn into a four year old. And to growing old with you, although I will always look much younger. I don’t see one moment where you aren’t by my side. You are my love, my soulmate, and my best friend. Thank you for helping make my dreams come true. I promise to do the same, every day, for as long as we can.”

Billy gestured to Blaine, who smiled. “Once upon a time, there was a handsome prince. He was a lonely prince, though. He lost his friends to something beyond their control. He was told what he knew about himself was wrong, by both the king and the commoners of the village. So he was sent away, to a land called Dalton.”

Kurt burst out laughing. “I’m sorry, I can’t help it. You can go on.”

Blaine shook his head. “You would laugh. Anyway, the handsome prince liked the new land. He made new friends and was chosen to lead a prestigious army called the Warblers. Then one day, as the prince was hurrying to a conference of the army, he felt a tap on his shoulder. Behind him stood the most beautiful boy he had ever seen. He was also a prince, from a different land named McKinley. He was sent to discover Dalton’s secrets, but the act was foiled when the handsome prince took the beautiful prince’s hand. They became pals, but it wasn’t until months later when tragedy struck Dalton and made the handsome prince open his eyes. The beautiful prince could be more than that. He could be his partner.

“I could go on with this, but Kurt, you are my happily ever after. I love you so, so much, even when you’re yelling at me because I forgot to do the dishes. So many people think we settled because we were each other’s firsts. I don’t see it as that. Like Rihanna sang and we repeated back when Mr. Schuester proposed to Ms. Pillsbury, we found love in a hopeless place. And together, we will make every moment as magical as a fairy tale.”

Kurt could hear Joanne sobbing behind them, which drove him to begin tearing up. Billy then asked them to exchange rings. They each placed the ring back on the other’s hand, Kurt putting Blaine’s on first. Once finished, Billy closed the ceremony. “By the power vested in me from the state of Nevada, I now pronounce you husbands. You may kiss each other.”

A smile spread across Kurt’s face as Blaine leaned in. The kiss was firm, romantic, and everything he expected. When they parted, he stared into the hazel eyes in front of him. “Hello, husband,” he whispered.

“Hello back at you, husband,” Blaine replied. “I love you.”

“I love you, too.” They joined hands and kissed again, neither willing to part until they heard Joanne clapping.

“Boys, that was so beautiful,” she said, dabbing her eyes with a tissue. “If you don’t mind, I want to get a few shots of you two now.”

They obliged and let her take the pictures. When she finished, she walked over and hugged both of them. “Congratulations. I should have the pictures ready to mail to you in two weeks.”

“Thank you, Joanne,” Blaine said. “You as well, Billy. This was everything we needed.”

“It’s been an honor,” Billy replied, trying to hold back his own tears. “Good luck in your life.”

“Thank you for taking care of us,” Kurt added. They waved to both and walked back inside towards the exit, ready to begin their new adventure together.

End Notes: For those of you looking for sexytimes, don't worry...they still have to get through the wedding night! ;)

That was so well-written and adorable. The whole ceremony and their time and words leading up to it was especially beautiful as it meant so much to them and was not done in a drunken haze. Can't wait to read where you take it from here.
