The next morning, Kurt's side was still throbbing. He dressed in comfortable clothes and went downstairs, where his dad was eating breakfast at the table.

"Where's Carole?" Kurt asked.

"She just went to take a shower," Burt said. "Are you ok, bud? You're looking kind of stiff."

"I'm fine," Kurt answered quickly. "I guess I just slept wrong."

Burt nodded but continued to watch as Kurt grabbed a bagel and filled a mug with coffee.

"You know you can talk to me about stuff, right?" Burt ventured. "About anything."

Kurt stilled. "I know, Dad."

"Ok. Just wanted to make sure you knew," Burt said, piling more eggs on his plate.

Kurt's heart clenched. He knew his father would want to know about what was going on at school. But Kurt didn't want to be the cause of his father's second heart attack. He could take care of himself. Kurt pushed the feelings of guilt aside, told hi father goodbye, and drove to school.

Blaine sat in front of Kurt and Tina again in English. By the end of class, the two were rolling with laughter at Blaine's quiet impressions of their classmates. The laughter stopped, however, when Ms. Moss instructed them to get together with their project partners. Kurt grabbed his notes and walked over to Karofsky, mentally steeling himself. He slid quietly into the seat next to Karofsky, who ignored him.

"So, um, have you worked on the questions?" Kurt asked tentatively. Karofsky slid his notebook over, questions clearly completed.

"Ok. I've done mine, too, so I guess I'll just go turn these in." Kurt told him.

"Whatever, princess," came Karofsky's reply. The pain in Kurt's side is the only thing that stops his scathing retort. He takes the papers and staples them together before handing them in to Ms. Moss. He then returns to his now empty table, where he waits for the bell to ring.
----------------------------------------------------

By the time Kurt reached the lunch table with his usual salad, Blaine was already there. Kurt sat down next to him, pleased that Blaine hadn't felt the need to ask if he could sit with them again.

"Hey!" Blaine greeted Kurt.

"Hey!" Kurt smiled at him.  "What's up?"

"Nothing," Blaine told him. "Rachel is trying to convince me to join glee club. Something about backup singers providing a rich background to her voice?"

Kurt snorted and looked at Rachel, who was deep in conversation with Finn. "You should join if you want. It's fun."

"I don't know," Blaine said. "I can't sing very well."

Kurt smirked. "Did you forget that I've heard you sing? You blew A Whole New World out of the water."

"Well, thank you," Blaine smiled at the compliment. "We'll see."

Kurt recognized this as the end of the conversation and left it alone. He would convince Blaine sooner or later. The two chatted with Tina and Mercedes until lunch was over.

When the two boys got to Chemistry, they walked to their table and sat down, looking at each other.

"So," Blaine began. Before he could say anything, there was a loud boom of thunder. Both boys looked out the window, where rain was now pouring.

"Dammit," Blaine said quietly. Kurt looked at him questioningly. "My bike."

"Oh," Kurt said. "You don't need to ride home in this."

"I don't really have a choice," Blaine pointed out. "It's not like my parents can come get me."

"Ok then. I'll drive you home," Kurt told him.

Blaine looked up. "You don't need to do that."

"It's no problem," Kurt said. "I'm not letting you ride home in this."

"Thank you,Kurt," Blaine smiled.

"Don't worry about it. Will you be in the locker room next period?" Kurt asked.

"Probably. Beiste lets me box because I'm not on the football team," Blaine told him.

"Ok. I'll meet you there after glee."

Blaine nodded and the boys turned their attention to Mr. Winston.

Glee let out a little late that afternoon, so the halls were empty as Kurt walked to the locker room. As soon as he entered, he heard the shower running. He hardened slightly at the thought of Blaine in the shower and sat down on the bench to wait for him. The shower was soon shut off and the door unlocked. Kurt looked up with a smile, expecting to surprise Blaine. Instead, he was met with David Karofsky's leering face.
