He calls himself Eddie Andrews. Eddie, because it starts with the letter E, like Elizabeth, after his mom. Andrews because of Julie Andrews, because he can.
There’s no profile picture. Kurt still doesn’t feel comfortable with the idea of stealing someone’s photo. There are still some limits! Instead, he uses a random photo of a sunset that he found on Google.
Kurt also starts befriending a lot of other students at McKinley. After all, it’d be weird to only befriend Blaine. Luckily for him, a lot of students at McKinley care about having an excessive friends list on Facebook, so they don’t care that a stranger is trying to befriend them.
In the following week, he and Rachel carefully craft a profile and a backstory. Eddie is new in the area and new to Facebook. Eddie also cares about having an excessive friends list, so he befriends everyone he recognises.
Of course, everyone recognises Blaine Anderson. He’s the ubiquitous enigma, online and offline.
Kurt, as Eddie, leaves comments and likes on several profiles, including Blaine’s. He joins Facebook groups and he posts photos of public places, but also song lyrics. Some people comment on it, even though they don’t know him. Really, the fact that everyone cares about a picture perfect profile works in Kurt’s favour.
After two weeks, Blaine finally directly reacts to one of Eddie’s comments.
Blaine Anderson
Ha ha, thanks!
It isn’t much, but it’s a start.
Kurt doesn’t comment on everything that Blaine posts. He can’t be too suspicious. He likes a video that Rachel posted, he writes comments on his actual profile, he has a conversation with Brittany on his page. Honestly, it’s believable, if he may say so himself.
He only hasn’t asked Mercedes to be friends with Eddie. Mercedes doesn’t know the actual plan, but he’s still scared of her judgement.
Mercedes aside, he spends the first month of the plan perfecting the account and creating networks. People start commenting on his stuff more and this includes Blaine.
One day, things start to change.
Blaine Anderson
I really love this lyric. What inspired you to come up with this?
Eddie Andrews
Oh, that is kind of personal. It’s about the loss of a loved one. Kinda sad. Lmao.
Blaine Anderson
Oh, sorry for asking!
Eddie Andrews
It’s okay. It’s public anyway.
Kurt decides to leave it at that. If it weren’t for Blaine being Blaine, Kurt would’ve been very flattered by the compliment. Kurt’s not the best lyricist and he’s not trying to be, but it’s fun. So, Kurt doesn’t see a reason to continue that thread.
Blaine disagrees.
Later that day, when Kurt’s in his room, he sees that he’s received a DM from Blaine. Intrigued, he opens it.
Blaine Anderson: Hey sorry again for possibly overstepping.
I just really love music.
Kurt didn’t expect to form a bond that early in the plan, but he is overjoyed. If he can keep Blaine talking to him in the DMs, he can find something on him easier.
Eddie Andrews: Oh, it’s completely fine.
I love music too. Your stuff is also great.
Blane’s profile is filled with corny photos of him and the other popular people at school, but sometimes he posts some lyrics or he recommends videos. Kurt is so ecstatic about having Blaine in the DMs, so he decides to take a bold step.
Eddie Andrews: How about you?
Your lyrics can be pretty deep.
What inspires you?
Kurt can see Blaine typing a response. He’s taking a long time to answer and Kurt is expecting an incredibly pretentious and annoying answer about how he sees the art and whatnot. But when Kurt gets the final answer, he feels like someone punched him in the guts.
Blaine Anderson: Loneliness.
My loneliness to be more specific.
Kurt frowns at this. Doesn’t Blaine have thousands of friends? He gets invited to the best parties. His entire timeline is filled with all the fun stuff that he gets to do. Blaine must’ve thought hard about sending that. The answer probably took so long because he was rewriting it.
Eddie Andrews: Can you explain?
No reaction.
Eddie Andrews: Sorry. That was too much.
I’ll see myself out.
And that’s it. Kurt puts away his phone and he falls face down on his bed. What a way to ruin it before it even got started. He had Blaine in his DMs and now he’s scaring him off.
When Kurt’s getting ready for bed by applying a facemask, his phone pings. A message on Facebook.
Blaine Anderson: I just really wish I had a true friend.
That’s all.
