Author's Notes:

I’d like to apologise to Rachel fans in advance. Her brash personality is just a gold mine for this fic. Oh, and I had to shoehorn the prompt into this chapter, but hey, Finn needs a hobby!

Rachel shows up at Kurt’s house one day. She’s here for him, not for Finn.

“We haven’t talked about gossip in a while,” Rachel goes straight to the point. Kurt lets out a long sigh. He’s been dreading this moment. “Has he said anything we can shame him for? It’s been months!”

“Rachel,” Kurt shakes his head. He is very tempted to just close the door. “I told you, I’m out.”

Rachel frowns, as if Kurt’s talking nonsense. “Aren’t you still talking to him?”

“No, I’m not,” Kurt says. It’s the truth. “I said so, but you don’t listen. I deleted the account, Rachel, it’s over.”

Rachel doesn’t ask for an invite to come inside. She pushes Kurt to the side and she walks towards the living room. She’s talking a lot, but Kurt isn’t really listening. He can hear Finn walk around upstairs. He’s been holed up in his room all day, learning about kinetic sand. Finn has his random hobbies, which is necessary to stay sane while dating Rachel. Hopefully Finn will come downstairs so that Rachel can focus on him.

Kurt gives in. He closes the door and he follows after Rachel, who’s still talking about their supposed masterplan.

“Rachel, I’m out,” Kurt says again, “We should never have done this.”

Rachel narrows her eyes.

“You succeeded, didn’t you?”

“What?”

“You succeeded in finding out his secret, but it is so shocking that you can’t say?” Then, she lets out a loud gasp. “He did murder someone, didn’t he?”

“What? No!” Kurt can’t really fathom what is happening right now. Where does Rachel get these ideas from? “Rachel, it doesn’t matter. We should’ve listened to Mercedes. Can’t you see what we’ve done?”

Rachel crosses her arms. “We’re securing our careers!”

“Are we?”

“Yes!” Rachel yells. She sounds genuinely upset. “Don’t- you can’t leave me, Kurt. Mercedes already turned her back on me, on us, so don’t you dare cross over too!”

She sounds so desperate. A part of Kurt feels sorry for her. She can’t see past her own perception of things. To her, it really feels like she’s losing Kurt as a friend.

“Rachel…” Kurt trails off. It doesn’t matter. No matter what Kurt says, Rachel can’t seem to grasp that there is no real competition. “What we did was wrong. Face it, we are bad people!”

“It’s not a bad to be ambitious!”

That’s not the problem! The problem is that we did this awful and deranged plan and we ended up hurting someone.”

The two of them stare at each other in silence. Only the sound of Finn coming downstairs is audible. Maybe he’ll calm everything down. Kurt can’t handle Rachel right now.

“We hurt Blaine?” Rachel doesn’t sound upset about this. On the contrary, she sounds like she’s mocking him, as if she can’t believe that Blaine is capable of hurting.

She doesn’t see Blaine as a person.

Kurt knows that. He used to think the same.

“Yes,” Kurt says honestly.

“Then what did he tell you?”

Rachel!” Kurt pinches his nose. This is ridiculous.

The door opens and Finn is staring at them as if he’s about to walk into a minefield. That’s accurate.

“Uh, hi Rach, I thought I heard you speak.”

It’s hard to ignore when Rachel’s shouting.

Finn, tell your brother-”

“Finn, tell your girlfriend-”

Finn backs away and he holds up his hands. There’s still some leftover sand on them.

“Woah, woah, guys!”

“Actually, Rachel, you tell Finn what we’ve done. After all, you did it for him!” Kurt says sharply.

Rachel looks at him with confusion and Kurt knows that he got her. Rachel has no idea what Kurt’s talking about. She never did it for Finn. She needed an excuse for herself.

“Tell Finn how the two of us catfished Blaine Anderson in order to expose him of a dirty secret. Tell Finn that we hurt him badly. Tell Finn that we did it to make him lose his chance at getting a NYADA scholarship! Tell Finn that you did it so that Blaine can’t become quarterback!”

Rachel and Finn look at each other in shock.

“… Rachel?”

“Finn, I can explain-”

But then Finn turns to Kurt. “Kurt?”

“Yeah,” Kurt says regretfully, “Yeah.”

Finn looks from Kurt to Rachel and back to Kurt with wide eyes. He looks confused and Kurt doesn’t blame him. “What the fuck is wrong with you guys? Blaine’s a nice dude.”

“Not you too!” Rachel roars. She starts to cry.

“He is,” Finn says, sounding genuinely angry, “Rachel, Kurt… what the fuck? Blaine might not be a friend but he’s always been nice towards me and Puck and whatever, even though we’re in glee. Other popular kids want to burn us at the stake for it.”

Finn crosses his arms and looks away.

Rachel points her finger towards Kurt.

You!” she lets out a piercing scream, “You are ruining everything! If I am such a bad person, then so are you!”

“I am.” Kurt can admit that easily. He is such a bad person for doing this, but admitting it immediately put him above Rachel. “But unlike you, I am going to fix this. At least I can try.”

He can’t keep procrastinating. Blaine deserves the truth. He turns to leave – Finn and Rachel can continue to fight it out on their own – and he walks towards Carole’s study area. She has a lot of paper. He’s going to need it.
