Kurt never really appreciated Ohio. How can he? He wants to get the hell out of here! But now he’s walking around Blaine’s neighbourhood and it’s quiet enough to be peaceful. He needs peace, since his mind is reeling and Blaine’s erratic behaviour is still fresh. After all, that was only ten minutes ago. It’s been ten minutes since Blaine practically begged Kurt to leave since he couldn’t stand being around him because he’s so in love with him.

Kurt just sat there while Blaine was talking rapidly. Blaine kept saying that he’s sorry and that he wishes things were different and that he will always cherish their friendship, but in the end, Kurt had to go. And now Kurt is walking around. He should go to his car and leave properly, but he’s thinking.

A part of Kurt wants to call Mercedes, but he can’t use Mercedes as emotional support again. She has things to worry about as well, since she’s planning on going to Los Angeles. It’s weird to think that she’ll be on the other side of the country soon.

Besides, Kurt’s committed to doing something by himself for once. It’s something that Blaine said a while ago: he should let himself feel. Sure, he’s been incredibly wrong in the past, but he’s different now. He knows what he wants. He wants Blaine.

Blaine sent him away because he thinks that it’s better that way. Blaine said that he can’t be around Kurt knowing that it’ll never work out, but who is he to say that?

In hindsight, Kurt should’ve reassured him right there, but there’s one thing still stopping him, and that’s the guilt. Guilt is a terrible foundation for a friendship, so especially for a relationship. Kurt want Blaine, but can he ever be with him without the overbearing guilt over the Eddie situation? He’d like to believe that they’re fine. Blaine kept saying that they’re fine, but Kurt can’t agree with that yet.

Rachel’s at his house when Kurt gets home. She’s sitting next to Finn in the living room. Kurt and Rachel’s eyes meet for a second, but she looks away. Finn, on the other hand, smiles widely.

“Hey dude, how’s Blaine?”

Rachel scoffs and leaves abruptly. Finn rolls his eyes. Kurt has a lot of mixed feelings about them being together again, but at least Finn makes it clear that he’s not up for slandering Blaine.

Kurt sits next to his brother.

“I think I fucked up.”

Finn raises an eyebrow.

“Is this still about the catfishing thing?” he asks.

“Yeah.”

“I thought you guys had talked that out.”

“We did, but there’s been some… development.”

And that’s when Kurt tells Finn everything. He didn’t expect to unload all his emotional baggage on his brother, but talking to him is nice. Talking in general is nice. Being open about feelings is still relatively new for Kurt, but Finn is a surprisingly attentive listener. He probably has to be, since Rachel can’t stop talking.

“Fuck, okay, so,” Finn says, “Blaine is in love with you, but he thinks it’s not gonna work, and you love him too, but you are still feeling guilty? Sucks, man.”

“That summarises everything.”

 “Tough. But also, like, isn’t your guilt kinda good?”

Kurt raises an eyebrow.

“Look, I’m dating Rachel. I know, alright? I was really angry at her, but I realised that I love her too much to let her go and you can think whatever you want about that – I get it – but I see the other alternative: Rachel isn’t guilty at all.”

Kurt knows this. Everyone who’s aware of the catfishing knows this.

Finn shrugs nonchalantly and he continues his story: “Which sucks. I don’t talk with her about you or Blaine, because it’ll turn into a fight and I think it’s not really my business anyway, but she’s not guilty at all. And, like, Blaine’s forgiven you and not Rachel, probably because he knows you’re kinda better than her in this situation.”

Kurt sits back and think about what Finn just said. It’s true. Blaine can’t stand Rachel, even though Kurt’s repeatedly told him that he’s the worst offender. Kurt’s the one still torn up about what they did, not Rachel, and Blaine gives him that chance to understand what he’s done wrong.

Oh my God, Blaine truly is that amazing.

“So, Rachel – no offense to her, I love her – is definitely the wrong party here and I still date her, so why wouldn’t Blaine want to date you? Why can’t you two, like, try at least? Maybe this whole catfishing thing is weirdly fruitylicious.”

Kurt lets out a laugh. It’s what?

“What?”

Finn pouts. “I don’t know, dude, it’s this fancy word that Rachel’s dads use all the time. Something about a lucky chance that leads to a great result. Fortilicious? Fruititous?”

“You mean fortuitous?”

“Yeah!”

Kurt gives his brother a wide smile. When did they get so close and when did Finn get so smart? Either way, he’s grateful for it.

A part of Kurt was afraid that Blaine was going to ghost him again, but luckily, Blaine shows up at McKinley the next day. Perfect. Kurt’s plan is coming together.

They don’t really talk that day, but when glee club starts, Kurt tells Mr. Schue that he has a song prepared. Kurt takes centre stage and Mercedes, Tina and Brittany join him. They managed to pull all of this off last minute, but Kurt needs to be quick. He can’t let Blaine wait any longer.

“This song is for Blaine, my best friend and hopefully, possibly, future boyfriend.”

People go nuts when he says that. Finn is hollering. Santana is hooting. Mike slaps Blaine on his back and Blaine is beet red. Kurt looks over his shoulder and Mercedes is positively glowing. Kurt tells Brad to “hit it” and the song begins.

Kurt was so confident all throughout glee, but now that he’s actually face-to-face with Blaine, alone, he’s getting nervous all over again. Did Blaine like that? Was that enough? Was it too much?

When Kurt decided to sing a song, he did it because Blaine deserves to be serenaded and he deserves all the great romantic gestures in the world, but did Kurt fuck it all up anyway? He did put Blaine on the spot. That’s why Mr. Schue moved glee club to the auditorium immediately after the song, so that everyone could give them space.

Santana yelled “wanky!” as she left. Of course she did.

Kurt decides to just go for it. “So, what did you think?”

“I… wow…” Blaine is still red and Kurt’s pretty sure that he’s blushing as well.

“Yeah?”

“Did you mean it?” Blaine asks nervously, “I know I kind of freaked you out yesterday, but you want this too?”

“I meant it,” Kurt reaches for Blaine’s hand. At first, Blaine flinches a bit and Kurt feels his heart break, but then Blaine grabs his hand. “I’m not a good person, Blaine. I am brash, selfish, and I don’t really allow myself to feel anything. I thought that everything was right in my mind, and yes I have been proven wrong a lot in the past few weeks, but I now know that I’m not wrong about you- about this. You make me want to be a better person. I want you, if you’ll have me.”

Blaine lets out a teary laugh. “Of course I’ll have you, you dumb idiot. I practically screamed it in your face yesterday!”

“True,” Kurt laughs as well.

Blaine takes a step closer. “If we are doing this, then I want us to be on the same page.”

“What do you mean?” Kurt asks.

“I know you still feel guilty about what happened. I don’t want to have the feeling that you’re only being nice to me because you feel guilty. I want us to treat each other the same.”

Kurt feels his breath hitch. He doesn’t want Blaine because he thinks that he has to be nice to him, but there is still a part of truth to that sentence. He really loves Blaine, but the guilt might never leave.

“How can you be so kind to me?”

“Because someone needs to be.”

Kurt feels like he’s going to fall apart. He always expected Blaine to tear him apart, but not like this. He expected anger from him, but Blaine smiles.

“I don’t deserve this,” Kurt tries. He wants it, truly, but does he deserve it?

“Maybe you don’t. Doesn’t stop me, though.”

“Kiss me,” Kurt blurts out and he wants to hit himself for being so outrageous, but Blaine’s smile widens. Blaine leans closer and they kiss. It’s sweet and soft and it makes Kurt believe that Blaine is right. They’re not perfect, but they can try. After all, that’s what they’ve been doing all along. It’s a beginning and Kurt finally allows himself to feel incredibly happy.
