Author's Notes:

Well.

Hello, dober večer!

I know I don’t always finish the Advents on time (shout out to Advent 2019 for taking 10 months!), but oof, I did not expect to lose track this early in the game 😅. But here it is, day 5! And 1908jmd is once again coming in with the great suggestions. Thank you Jen for helping me with the oval prompt!

Kurt, Blaine and Sunil have a great time and it’s also fun to get to know Sunil a bit more. Blaine needs friends in the city, and it’d be wrong to be completely dependent on Kurt. Sunil is cool.

The food has also been approved by Blaine and Sunil, the Asians.

“Well, it is very Asian fusion,” Sunil says, “Authentic Sri Lankan food is still better, but I will survive.”

Blaine and Sunil also bond over sports, but that’s something Kurt does not talk about. Kurt says that he was a kicker in high school, but ultimately he does not care enough.

“But I like rugby more than football,” Sunil says.

“So does my girlfriend,” Blaine says, “Even though she was a cheerleader for the football team in high school.”

“Is she coming to visit?” Sunil asks.

“Yeah. In April.”

“Excited?”

Blaine shrugs. It’d be nice to see her, but he’s not really thinking about that. Blaine’s only been here for a day, so he doesn’t miss her yet. He’s sure that will kick in later, but now it’s fine.

“We can catch a game,” Sunil suggests, “Unless, of course, you want some time along with her. Argh, forget I said-”

“No, it sounds cool,” Blaine quickly says, “And hey, if we’re going to see each other more often, then it’d be nice for Quinn to see you. I am definitely introducing her to Kurt as well!”

“Oh,” Kurt sounds happily surprised.

“There’s a rugby field called the Stanežiče Oval, but we can see further in March or April. Kurt, do you want to come along too?”

“To rugby?” Kurt sounds affronted, which makes everyone laugh.

“Hey, thought I’d ask!” Sunil says. Then he playfully elbows Kurt. “If you don’t come along for the sport, you can always come along to ogle guys in tight clothing and short pants.”

“Compelling argument, Mr. Kasun,” Kurt says with a smile, “I shall reconsider it.”

Blaine looks at the two of them.

Oh.

So.

Right.

“Wait, you’re gay?” Blaine blurts out. Both Sunil and Kurt look at him.

“Blaine, do you think a straight guy can have an impeccable fashion sense like this?” Kurt jokes.

“… I have an impeccable fashion sense,” Blaine says and he turns red. Right. Kurt doesn’t need to care about what Blaine’s wearing, but he felt like it needed to be said. “When I don’t like I’ve just rolled out of bed, I mean. You should see me in a suit. I mean- I just…”

“I believe you,” Kurt says with a wink, “You showed the photo of you and Quinn. You looked marvellous. I suppose there are exceptions.”

“So are you two…” Blaine trails off.

Kurt and Sunil look at each other before bursting out in laughter again.

“We barely know each other,” Sunil says through his laughter, “It’s only been a week.”

That’s weird. Blaine’s only known Kurt for a few hours and he think he knows Kurt well enough.

“Who knows what time will bring?” Kurt jokes and something in Blaine churns. Which is unfair. Blaine doesn’t know Sunil very well, but he seems nice and he even invited him and Quinn to a match. That’s kind!

Blaine leaves to pay for his food. Kurt and Sunil have already paid the Boni, since that is often done at the beginning. The thought of Sunil and Kurt alone makes Blaine feel weird.

What is he thinking?

Once they’re all done and outside, Sunil shakes Blaine’s hand.

“It was nice to meet you.”

“Likewise,” Blaine says, “Same for you.”

He directs that last part to Kurt.

“Glad to have another American in the city,” Kurt says and he does a mock salute. Then he tells Sunil that the bus is about to leave.

“Oh, you guys don’t live in the centre?”

Kurt shrugs.

“It’s a ten minute bus ride. It’s not that far away. We live at the Mercator bus stop, so it’s doable.”

“Wait,” Blaine says, “Before you go, what’s your number?”

“That’s handy to have,” Kurt says. They quickly exchange numbers, but then Kurt and Sunil really have to go.

“I can see the bus!” Sunil yells, so the two of them run away. Blaine yells his goodbyes and they yell back.

It’s a seven minute walk back to Blaine’s apartment and a part of Blaine wants to take a detour, since he needs time to think, but he’s been on his feet all day. He’s tired.

So instead of sulking around the city, Blaine ends up sulking on his couch.

Why does he feel so unsettled? His first day in Ljubljana was better than he could’ve hoped for. He came home with two potential friends, he already has some addresses for food and drinks, and he’s seen the city.

He already wants to text Kurt. Maybe he can help out. After all, it’s probably some sort of homesickness and Kurt can relate.

He reaches for his phone, but it already lights up.

Quinn is calling.

“Hello,” Blaine says when he picks up.

“Hello,” Quinn says back, “Am I still on time or is it already too late in Europe?”

“I have the time differences on my clock app. It’s really handy to keep track of the time differences.”

“Oh! Nice.”

Blaine smiles. Quinn sounds very excited about it.

“How’s life back in LA?”

Quinn starts talking about how she had brunch with a senator’s daughter who was visiting, but how dreadful it actually was. Blaine laughs a lot during the story. Quinn is great at mimicking the daughter’s voice.

“But really, how are you? How is Ljubljana? Did you already make friends?”

“Well, yes, actually…” and Blaine then starts talking about Kurt and Sunil, but mostly Kurt. Which makes sense. He spent most time with Kurt during the day. He tells Quinn how Kurt saved his pizza and showed him the way to the supermarket and then Kurt gave him the tour.

“And then I asked him for a drink,” Blaine continues, “As a drink. That’s when Sunil came around. He and Kurt were getting dinner and Kurt asked me along!”

“That’s kind of him,” Quinn agrees.

“He is very kind,” Blaine says and he hopes Quinn can hear him smiling.

The two of them talk some more and it’s pretty chill. Why did Blaine feel so hesitant to talk about Quinn with Kurt? Quinn is his girlfriend. Quinn is his best friend. As Kurt pointed out, it’s great to date your best friend.

Blaine yawns at one point.

He’s really tired.

“Go to sleep, Blaine!” Quinn says playfully, “Go, sleep, now!”

“Will do!” Blaine’s already off the couch.

“Good, love you!”

Oh.

That is why.

“Ah,” Blaine says and then he finds a way out and says: “Good night, Quinn.”

“… Good night.”

The line disconnects and Blaine stares at the screen. He shakes his head. He’s only been here for a day. Why does it feel like everything’s so different?

End Notes:

I just want to reiterate that Blaine and Quinn are friends! They genuinely like each other! They might even love each other, but not in the way they think. Oh yes, comphet, babey!
