Okay, ‘in love’ might be a bit much. Kurt’s a romantic at heart, but he’s never really vibed with the ‘love at first sight’ trope.
But now that he’s seeing this man, Kurt cannot deny that his heartbeat has sped up at an alarming rate. He’s either forming a crush or a heart attack. Kurt hopes it’s the first option.
“But Blainey-Days…” Cooper pouts. Then he turns to Kurt. “Don’t listen to my brother, Mr. Hummel. We will do anything we can to make sure that we-”
“We will not exploit our workers, Cooper,” the hot one (Blainey-Days?) cuts Cooper off. Then he also turns to Kurt and he has an apologetic look on his face. “Sir, I am very sorry, but I have overheard portions of your conversation with my brother and I know you’re aware of the bad timing, but this is really bad timing, so I think we’ll have to decline.”
Cooper starts protesting.
“Blaine, do you know who he is?”
Blaine gives Kurt a look and maybe Kurt’s seeing things, but did Blaine turn red?
Blaine coughs and he goes back to full professionalism.
“Sorry, I do not. But I am Blaine Anderson, the other owner of Dalton Doggy dog bakery, and my brother cannot make these big decisions without consulting me first. He knows this.”
“Kurt Hummel, nice to meet you,” Kurt says.
Blaine frowns slightly.
“I have heard that name before.”
“You must have,” Cooper exclaims and then he runs towards Kurt with an apologetic look, “Please excuse my brother. He doesn’t have the business-oriented mindset that we in LA so desperately crave.”
“I just want to look after my employees,” Blaine grumbles under his breath and Kurt’s interest in him only grows. The stereotype that everyone in Los Angeles is more like Cooper is false. Not everyone is obsessed with their own self-interest, sometimes at the expense of others. Kurt’s met many kind, hard-working and caring people. Still, Blaine’s concern about his employees takes Kurt by surprise.
Like, to be honest, Kurt didn’t have a great first impression of Dalton Doggy dog bakery.
But now that he’s met Blaine, he’s almost sad to say: “No, I agree. It’s a too short notice. I cannot demand you change your policies for me.”
Blaine has a surprised smile on his look when he hears that. Out of the corner of Kurt’s eyes, he can also see Tim let out a sigh of relief. Only Cooper doesn’t want to go down without a fight.
“No, Mr. Hummel, we can make this work!” Cooper acts as if someone’s about to murder him and he’s pleading for his life. In fact, he even kneels before Kurt. Kurt, Blaine and Tim all have the same baffled look on their faces. “We have everything you need for your fruit cake!”
“Fruit cake?” Blaine asks Kurt.
Kurt nods nonchalantly.
“My client wants a seven tiered cake with each tier flavoured after a different dog friendly fruit,” Kurt explains.
Blaine lets out a whistle.
“Woah, this truly is a big request,” Blaine says. Then he looks deep in thought. “Can I see the plans?”
Cooper shoots his brother a hopeful look. Kurt takes out the sketches. It can’t hurt, can it?
