Day 7 (continued)

While waiting for Blaine to come back, Kurt finally got his bag back. Luckily, his belongings were untouched and his phone was safely resting in the bag. When Kurt took it and saw that it was off, he thought it ran out of battery but he tried to turn it on just in case and was surprised to find out that it was turned off by someone, most likely to keep people from trying to reach him.

With shaky fingers Kurt found his dad’s number and called it. After three signals the call was answered. “Hey, buddy,” Burt’s cheerful voice made Kurt smile.

“Hi, dad! How are you doing?” Kurt asked nervously.

“Same old, same old… Busy at the garage but I’m eating healthy so I’m perfectly fine. But how are you doing? Did you get those extra tests done?”

“Tests?” Kurt asked confused.

“Kurt, you promised to ask Dr. Lewis to run some tests to see if you are really healthy. Are you telling me you didn’t talk to her?”

Kurt thought back to the last conversation he had with his dad. He told him about the test results, his dad was worried and told him to have some other tests run and then Kurt promised he would do that and then he would call him next week. Kurt smiled relieved – his dad wasn’t expecting him to call earlier and wasn’t stressing out about Kurt’s disappearance.

“Dad, there is something I need to tell you,” he braced himself. “I didn’t talk to Dr. Lewis but I had some blood tests done…”

Day 7 (continued)

“How did your dad take it?” Blaine asked that evening in the car while they were finally driving to Kurt’s apartment after a long day.

Kurt was staring through the window, appreciating the freedom more than ever. “He was furious, not that I expected anything else. But I had to tell him; he had a right to know. We tell each other everything and I have a feeling that soon I will need his support.”

“I’m here for you,” Blaine said turning to the right as it was shown in his navigation system. “Whenever you need someone to talk to, or fight back your annoying comments, you can come to me.”

“I’ll keep that in mind,” Kurt smiled whole-heartedly. “You know, I still can’t believe that you of all people were working undercover. I mean, you are you…”

“Insanely smart, handsome, hot piece of ass?”

“Insanely clueless, oblivious, science nerd.”

Blaine pouted stopping the car outside Kurt’s apartment block. “Don’t be so harsh on me. I was adorable, admit it. You found me irritatingly funny.”

“Fine, I admit it, making fun of you always made my day. Satisfied?”

“I will be once you safely get into your apartment,” Blaine said and opened the car door.

Kurt fished the keys out of his bag and they went upstairs.

“Just so you know, you are paying half the rent and we are sharing the bills,” he said unlocking the door.

“Of course,” Blaine nodded. “The agency is paying anyway. Now, wait here until I check the apartment. If something happens, shout, okay?”

“Yeah, yeah. Go on, I can’t wait to get in the shower and then go to sleep in my own bed.”

Kurt stood there for a few minutes before Blaine appeared in the doorway and let him know that he was safe to go in. With a roll of his eyes, Kurt went inside and sighed happily, finally at home.

Day 8

Still being affected by the medicine he had taken for nerves, Kurt slept peacefully through the night. He fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow and had no dreams at all. He slept until the morning and slowly came to consciousness as his lungs were filled with delicious smell. Kurt smiled happily into the pillow before the memories crashed over him. But when he opened his eyes, he saw he was in his own bed, his own bedroom. It all seemed like a long bad dream. Except the strong sweet smell proved that it wasn’t.

Kurt rubbed his eyes and yawned widely before standing up and stretching his stiff muscles. He quickly put on his favourite bathrobe and silently left the room and went into the kitchen. He was met with a sight that made his heart warm.

Blaine in only his pyjamas pants, was standing in front of Kurt’s oven, a plate full of pancakes by his side and some in a large pan. But what really got to Kurt was that the young man was singing silently and doing a little funny dance to accompany his song.

…my heart stops when you look at me…

“Oops, sorry, I will stop looking,” Kurt laughed leaning on the door frame.

Blaine jumped and spatula fell out of his grip. “Kurt, good morning!” he said overly excitedly, blushing deep red while bending to pick up the spatula. “Did I wake you up?”

“No,” Kurt said smirking. “But you didn’t have to stop the show just because of me. Please, do continue.”

Blaine moved to turn the pancakes over. “I was almost finished, so that’s alright. I would have woken you up soon because you have been sleeping for way too long. You might get a headache.”

“I’ll be fine,” Kurt said with another yawn.

“Take some painkillers if you do.”

“Yes, mommy,” Kurt said as Blaine turned off the stove and placed the last pancakes on the plate.

He put it on the table and looked up at Kurt. “Join me for breakfast? Though I’m not sure if you like pancakes, I just assumed…”

“Pancakes are perfect. They do smell nice. But first I need to go to the bathroom,” he said and left the kitchen.

Day 9

“But I want to go to lectures. I already missed too many,” Kurt argued angrily when Blaine told him he wouldn’t be able to go to the university like he used to.

“Kurt, it’s all for your safety,” Blaine said frustrated. “From now on you are a distance learner. You will do the practical stuff at the agency labs and you will go to the written exams only. How would we explain me being by your side all the time?”

Kurt rolled his eyes. “You could wait outside the lecture theatres. It’s not like one of my coursemates is going to abduct me or kill me with everyone else in the room.”

“This is not up for discussion,” Blaine stated firmly.

“Fine!” Kurt shouted and went into his bedroom, slamming the door behind himself.

Day 11

“Now, Mr. Hummel, I will be asking a few questions and I want you to answer them truthfully,” a scary-looking lady told him as her co-worker was setting up the camera in front of him.

It was the day when Kurt had to testify. Blaine had told him that such huge case would take forever to be solved in a court so if they got Kurt’s testimony on tape, he wouldn’t need to go back there again and again.

“Let’s begin,” the woman said and Kurt wished Blaine was there with him. Unfortunately he had to wait outside the room. “When were you first contacted by the PAG corp.?”

“It all started when I applied for their summer internship…”

Day 12

“You need a massage,” Kurt said watching Blaine trying to do something about his hurting back.

“I’m fine,” he said rubbing his shoulder.

“Oh man up and accept the help when I’m offering some,” Kurt told him. “Let’s go to the bedroom.”

Defeated, Blaine followed the other man, taking his shirt off on the way.

“Lie down,” Kurt instructed and Blaine did as he had been told. After a few firm strokes over his back, Blaine sighed contently. “You won’t be sleeping on that old couch anymore. It’s not healthy for your back.”

“Um, where am I supposed to sleep then?” Blaine asked sleepily, Kurt’s hands doing wonders.

“In my bed. We are both adults, I have a double bed and we both have separate beddings so it’s not like we would have to share a duvet anyway.”

“Okay,” with Kurt’s hands on him Blaine couldn’t help but agree to anything.

Day 16

“I was just on the phone with the Chief,” Blaine said and joined Kurt, who was watching TV on the couch. “Still no news about Pillsbury or Schuester.”

Day 37

“Why don’t you just stop watching this show?” Blaine asked as Kurt wiped a tear.

“I can’t. I really care for Curt and Shane. I want to know what happens to them,” he sniffed. “You won’t understand.”

“But it makes you sad,” Blaine said helplessly.

“It’s called Miserable for a reason. Don’t expect it to be all gleeful.”

Blaine sighed knowing that arguing was no use. He moved closer to Kurt and pulled him gently, making the other man lean on him, and wrapped his arms around him.

“I’m sure your Curt and Shane will get back together. It’s just the matter of time.”

Day 44

“Chief said I can officially intern in the agency,” Kurt said excitedly after his phone call was over. “In that way you will be able to do your training or whatever and I will be watched over the whole time. He also said I can do any research I want!”

Blaine stopped cleaning his gun. “What are you going to do?”

“I’m going to join the team of scientists who have been working on finding out how to use Puck and mine blood.”

Day 172

“What are you doing?” Kurt asked Blaine when he walked into the bedroom after he was finished with his online research.

Blaine looked up from his own laptop. “I was reading the news online.”

“Anything interesting?” Kurt asked. It was their way of asking if there was anything new about the PAG corp. case.

“Actually yes,” Blaine shifted uneasily. “Martinez was convicted half an hour ago.”

“You don’t seem too happy,” Kurt frowned.

“He only got five years in jail.”

Day 203

“You have no fucking idea how hard this is!” Kurt yelled at Blaine. “You strut around with no shirt the whole time like you are some fucking dog Jacob and then I have to fucking sleep with you in the same bed! Do you have any idea what that does to me?”

“Yes, Kurt, I do have a perfect idea because I, not like some people,” Blaine shouted back gesturing towards Kurt, “wear appropriate pants at least. Can’t you for once wear some loose sweatpants? But nooo, you have to wear those damn tight pants! And then I have to sleep with you in the same bed. So yes, I have an idea what it’s like for you because it’s even worse for me!”

“And yet I don’t see you buying a new couch and moving to sleep in the living room!”

“That’s because I want to sleep with you! I want to feel the warmth of your body even though I can’t touch you. I want to feel your breath on my skin when you sleep facing me I want to hear you muttering random words in your sleep. And I want nothing more than to sleep with you in my arms for once.”

“Then why don’t you?” Kurt asked eyeing him angrily.

“What?”

“Kiss me for fuck’s sake!”

“Are you sure?”

“I’ve been sexually frustrated for months now thanks to you so yes, I’m fucking sure!” Kurt snapped and pressed Blaine to the wall and attacked his lips with his own.

Blaine moaned into the kiss and cupped Kurt’s ass, squeezing the perfectly rounded cheeks. “We can’t do this; it’s wrong.”

Kurt moaned and started kissing Blaine’s jaw, moving to his neck and setting at sucking on his pulse point.

“I’m on duty, it’s unprofessional,” Blaine tried to convince himself to stop but it wasn’t working given that his body wasn’t listening to him, touching Kurt everywhere where he could reach. “We shouldn’t.”

“Bedroom?” Kurt asked, pulling at the waistband of Blaine’s sweatpants.

“Fuck yes,” Blaine swore and picked up the other man.

Day 301

Blaine ran into the lab where Kurt was working. “Pillsbury and Schuester were caught,” he breathed.

Day 349

“I can’t believe you put black socks with the whites! You ruined all my white clothes!” Kurt yelled at Blaine after the laundry disaster.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose,” Blaine rolled his eyes. “And it’s not like they got ruined. They are just grey now.”

Blaine slept on the couch that night.

Day 412

“Move your ass, you selfish –” Kurt muttered under his nose.

“Kurt, you know how this movie ends,” Blaine giggled. “You’ve seen it like thirty times.”

“There was enough space for two! See that? She could have saved Leo’s life!”

Blaine laughed and kissed Kurt’s temple. “You are adorable.”

Day 640

“I can’t believe it’s over…” Kurt sighed, falling on the bed.

It was the final day of the trial and both Dr. Pillsbury and Prof. Schuester got the life imprisonment. No matter how Kurt and Blaine grew close, it would be nice for once to go on with their daily lives without being attached to one another.

“It’s like the dream come true,” Kurt smiled at Blaine, who was standing by the closet and not smiling.

“I’m happy it’s over,” he forced a smile.

“What’s wrong?” Kurt sat up. “I though you would be glad it was all over now.”

All over, Kurt, all.”

“What?” Kurt asked confused. “Are you breaking up with me?”

Blaine shook his head. “No, unless you want to. But it will be just weird to live on my own after almost two years living with you.”

“What are you talking about, silly? You aren’t going anywhere, I won’t let you.”

Blaine shrugged. “I finished my work here so I thought–”

“So you won’t be living here as an agent on duty; you will be living here as my boyfriend,” Kurt said as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. “I’m not letting you go.”

“What about when I get to work undercover again?”

“We had talked about this before,” Kurt said and pulled Blaine to sit on the bed. “Your job won’t stop me from being with you. So stay? Please?”

“Okay.”

Day 882

“Hey, baby,” Kurt said loudly as he injected a white rat with some liquid, his phone on a speaker placed on the table.

“Hi, love,” Blaine’s voice came from the phone. “How is my lab human doing?”

“Tired but excited,” Kurt said. “I won’t be coming home tonight because I need to stay in the lab. I know you probably won’t be around for much longer but this is really important. I feel really positive about this experiment.”

Blaine sighed into the phone. “Will you come back in the morning?”

Kurt bit his bottom lip. He didn’t want to make his boyfriend feel abandoned but his work could change the world. “I’m not sure.”

Day 882 (continued)

It was almost midnight and Kurt felt himself dozing off because watching a sleeping rat wasn’t really the most exciting thing to do. At some point he must have fallen asleep because the knock on the door startled him and he almost hit his head on the table lamp. Kurt unlocked the door of the lab and was met by the sight of a bouquet of red and yellow roses.

“Blaine,” Kurt chuckled silently.

“Hey Kurt,” Blaine lowered the flowers and leaned to kiss his boyfriend. “Sleepy much?”

“You have no idea,” Kurt yawned. “Are these for me?”

“No, it’s for Pinky,” Blaine said and entered the lab.

“Who is Pinky?” Kurt asked confused.

“Your rat,” Blaine said and bent to take a better look at the rat Kurt had been working with. “Hey, Pinky, I brought you flowers. Will you go out with me?”

Kurt rolled his eyes. “First of all, Pinky and the Brain were lab mice not rats. Secondly, please, don’t name my lab rats. You will get attached and it’s not good. Neither for you, nor for me.”

“Fine,” Blaine smirked. “Hey nameless rat, will you go out with me?”

Kurt sighed and took a sip from his coffee mug. “I’m happy to see you. But shouldn’t you be resting before your next big mission?”

“Um, about that…” Blaine began slowly. “I changed my division.”

“What do you mean?”

“I don’t want to work undercover anymore. I don’t want to stay away from you so I decided it was time for me to try what it’s like to be on the investigating part. I know the payment is not as good but it’s less risky and I will get to spend more time with the man I love most.”

“Me?” Kurt teased him placing his hands on Blaine’s hips.

“Pinky.”

Day 999

“You have been a bit off the whole time throughout the dinner,” Kurt commented on Blaine’s behaviour when they were on the way back to their apartment.

Blaine smiled and squeezed his hand that he was holding. “Must be a little bit tired.”

Kurt smiled back at him though he didn’t believe him for a second. After almost three years together, they knew each other too well. That’s why Kurt was feeling slightly worried recently because there was something strange about Blaine those days.

In a comfortable silence the two men reached the apartment and went inside. Kurt gaped at the sight that met him. There were candles everywhere, a slow music in the background.

“Who?” Kurt giggled.

“Puck. He said he would feel all girly but he owed me so he agreed to help me out,” Blaine said and turned to kiss his boyfriend.

Kurt was more than happy to join and soon a sweet kiss turned into duelling for dominance. In the heat of the moment Kurt didn’t even notice how Blaine slowly moved them into the living room. They stood in the middle of the room and Blaine slowly pulled away.

“It’s a special day,” he began. “Today marks exactly nine hundred ninety nine days since the moment I met you.”

Kurt chuckled silently. “Of course you’ve been counting.”

“Because every day spent with you is the happiest day in my life. And I want many more. I want the future with you, Kurt. I know we have talked about growing old together but it always seemed like a joke between us. So today I stand before you in all seriousness and I want to offer you forever with me,” he took a small box out of his pocket and dropped on one knee. “Kurt Elizabeth Hummel, will you do me the honour of becoming my husband?”

Tears escaped Kurt’s eyes and he nodded hastily. “Yes.”

Day 1247

“Puck, I swear to god, if you lose the rings…” Kurt heard Blaine from the other room where his soon-to-be husband was getting ready with their best man.

“Are you sure Puck is responsible enough to take care of the rings?” Burt asked watching Kurt, who was checking if his clothes were as perfect as they were supposed to be. “I like the guy, but he seems reckless.”

Kurt rolled his eyes, wiping non-existing dust from the sleeve. “He saves people’s lives, dad. I’m sure he can deal with the rings.”

Day 1247 (continued)

“The rings, Puck,” Blaine whispered.

“Oh yeah, sorry,” the best man apologised and put his hand in a pocket. Then another, and another. “Guys, we have a problem here…”

Day 2016

THE SIGNS OF EVOLUTION ARE ALREADY HERE

by Prof. K. Tanaka

Day 2016 (continued)

“I can’t believe Prof. Tanaka exposed our secret,” Kurt said tiredly to Puck, who was eating a cake in their kitchen.

“He didn’t mention the names, did he?” Blaine asked with a frown on his face.

Puck shook his head. “No. he just revealed that there are people like Kurt and I. I know that Chief is planning to make an official announcement about Tanaka being unhealthily obsessed about theories that are impossible to prove. Something like that.”

“If people actually believe him, people like Puck and I will be hunted,” Kurt ran his hand through his hair. “Just like the PAG corp. did years ago.”

Day 2018

DR. TANAKA’S THEORIES ARE BASED ON THE DRUNKEN TESTS

by Q. Fabray

Day 2720

“Hi, love,” Blaine smiled as he entered Kurt’s familiar lab.

“Hey,” his husband greeted him and gave him a chaste kiss on his cheek.

“How is Pinky the Forty Ninth doing?”

“Still doesn’t agree on going on a date with you…”

Day 2798

THE CURE TO CANCER IS ON ITS WAY

by Dr. K. Anderson-Hummel

Day 2902

“But I want a boy with dark curly hair,” Kurt said as the two men left their new apartment.

“We have been through this,” Blaine argued. “It’s not fair. I want him to have a bit of my looks and a bit of yours.”

Kurt sighed silently. “Okay, you are right. But I prefer brown eyes.”

“Deal,” Blaine smiled and they sat into the car. “What a rare occasion – Dr. and Chief Anderson-Hummels reaching a compromise.”

Day 2902 (continued)

An hour later they found themselves standing in the doorway of the room full of playing kids.

“I feel like in a market – pick the best looking one,” Kurt whispered so that the lady with them couldn’t hear him.

“I know, love, but we knew what it would be like when we decided to adopt a kid,” Blaine calmed him. “Now, let’s take a look.”

They turned away from each other and looked around the room. What caught their attention were a couple of blonde boys with bright green eyes, obviously brothers, who were arguing over something.

“I don’t wan to play police,” the younger, around four year old, pouted. “I’m always a bad guy and I don’t want to be a bad guy.”

The older boy, who couldn’t be older than six, pointed his plastic gun at the younger one. “I need to be ready to fight crime. I have to practise.”

“But I want to be a doctor and cure a lobster like that man on TV.”

“It was cancer, silly,” the older boy rolled his eyes. “I know, you can be a doctor but someone kidnaps you and I have to save you.”

The younger boy thought for a moment. “But I get to cure someone while being kidnapped.”

“Deal.”

Kurt couldn’t tear his eyes away from the pair. “Blaine?”

“They are perfect.”

End Notes:

Just like I promised, this was a short story and it ends with this chapter. I know I could have done more with the story and I didn't really use the potential of it but as this is a Christmas gift for my friend framby, I had to finish it by now and I can't afford having yet another huge multi-chapter fic going on. Nevertheless, I hope you all enjoyed the story, no matter how short it was.

Until the next time! x
