Day 7 (continued)
Frozen with fear Kurt wasn’t able to open his eyes to see who was in front of him. He no longer held his breath; instead he was breathing frantically and was close to tears.
“Kurt?” a soft voice whispered and only then a familiar scent filled Kurt’s lungs.
He opened his eyes warily. “Blaine?” he muttered and broke down.
Tears started running down Kurt’s face and suddenly he was a sobbing wreck. Sensing his cue, Blaine grabbed Kurt’s hand gently and pulled closer, making the other man wrap his arms around Blaine’s neck and cry into his shoulder.
“Hey, it’s okay,” Blaine whispered soothingly, caressing Kurt’s lower back with his free hand. “I know it was scary but it’s all over now.”
“Really?” Kurt’s voice broke as he hiccupped.
“I promise.”
Kurt nodded into Blaine’s shoulder but didn’t say anything. Just staying like this, with his arms around the scientist and the other man’s hand touching him gently, was the best feeling in the world and for a moment Kurt forgot everything else in the world. Nothing else existed, only Blaine and him. And someone by the door.
“Agent Anderson, we’ve got a problem here,” that person said from the doorway and Kurt looked up to see a middle-age man with a bullet-proof vest.
“Shit, I’m coming,” Blaine said and pulled away from Kurt.
For the first time after the door of the closet was opened, Kurt took a look at Blaine’s appearance. The glasses were gone and Blaine’s lab coat was unbuttoned to reveal a bullet-proof vest that looked exactly like the one that the other man in the doorway was wearing. In his right hand, which wasn’t touching Kurt, he had a gun.
“Kurt, before you jump to any conclusions, please, let me explain everything, okay?” he asked with hope and worry in his voice. “Please, give me a chance…”
Kurt nodded.
“Thank you,” Blaine smiled. “I will tell you everything once I sort out that problem Agent Nelson was talking about. Now, come with me; I don’t want to leave you alone.”
Once again Kurt nodded feeling like his jaw was locked. To assure him that he was safe, Blaine took his hand and led the way to the living room, which was occupied by several men and women. Judging by the sounds, there were many more outside the apartment.
“Stay by my side,” Blaine said so silently that only Kurt could hear. At that moment a man with thick grey moustache came in. “Chief, what’s going on?”
The man rubbed his face and came closer to the two men, who were holding their hands tightly. “Pillsbury and Schuester escaped. We can’t find them anywhere.”
“Shit,” Blaine cursed. “Do we have Mr. Martinez in our hands?”
The man nodded. “I want you to go and get the information out of him. He may know where those two went to hide and we have to be quick.”
Blaine glanced at Kurt, who squeezed his hand more tightly. “Have you seen Puck?”
The Chief rolled his eyes. “Before I came here Agent Puckerman was in the corridor flirting with Miss Fabray.”
“Puck, get your useless ass over here right now!” Blaine yelled angrily.
Kurt heard his now ex-roommate laugh and soon Puck emerged. “No need to shout, dude. How are you doing, roomie?”
Instead of saying anything Kurt shook his head to show that he wasn’t ready to talk.
“Puck, I need to go downstairs. I want you to stay with Kurt,” Blaine said and it sounded more like an order.
“Will do,” Puck said and stepped closer to the boy he had been sharing the apartment for a week with. “We will have so much fun!”
Blaine glared at him and tried to release Kurt’s hand but the other man’s grip was too strong. “Kurt, sweetie, I need you to let go of my hand. Puck will take care of you and in no time I will be back. And then I will tell you everything and answer all the questions you have. But now I need to make sure that the bad guys get what they deserve.”
“Promise?”
“Promise,” Blaine said and Kurt loosened the grip. “I’ll be right back.”
Puck put his arm over Kurt’s shoulders and pulled him towards the couch. “Let’s sit down.”
Kurt sat down with Puck by his side and looked around trying to calm down but nothing was working. Now with Blaine gone, he could feel the fear slowly taking over his thoughts.
“Hey, Fabray, bring my boy something for his nerves,” Puck said and Kurt saw a beautiful blonde nodding before disappearing somewhere.
Puck didn’t say anything anymore as Kurt didn’t show any signs of wanting to talk. As he observed people around him, Kurt felt himself calming down a little. Even though they looked tired and worried, the hints of victory were showing in their faces. However, what kind of victory it was, Kurt had no idea of.
In a few minutes the girl came back with a single pill and a glass of water and Kurt, even though reluctant, took the pill. The feeling of peace took over him not long after and the worry clouding his brain disappeared so when Blaine came back, he was more like his true self.
“Martinez didn’t say anything,” Blaine told the Chief, who swore silently. “I will go deal with Kurt now.”
“Okay, do that,” the man said and Kurt could see Blaine coming towards him.
“Hey, I’m back just like I promised,” he said gently.
“Oh really? I couldn’t tell if you were back or not without your help, Legolas, so thank you for that,” Kurt grimaced.
“Awww, will you be Gimli to my Legolas?” Blaine smirked.
“Nerds,” Puck rolled his eyes.
Blaine raised one eyebrow. “And yet you understood the reference.”
“Whatever, dude,” Puck said and stood up. “Now that I don’t need to babysit for you, I will go and try to get a date with the Fabray chick. Later, dudes.”
With Puck gone Kurt sat glaring at Blaine.
“Kurt, you do realise that you are not Scott Summers and you can’t really kill me with your eyes, right?” Blaine offered trying to lessen the tension.
It seemed to work because Kurt snorted and actually smiled. “But I can try.”
Blaine nodded, smiling a little to himself. “Did someone give you anything for your nerves?” he asked and Kurt nodded. “And how are you feeling?”
Kurt sighed. “Physically I’m much better. I’m no longer shaking or crying so I call it progress. And my heartbeat went back to a normal rate. But despite that, I’m worried, confused, freaked out. You name it.”
“I didn’t expect anything else. Just so you know, you are coping really well,” Blaine said. “Um, I think we need to talk. Do you want to go somewhere less noisy and crowded?”
“Yeah,” Kurt agreed and stood up.
“How about the room where you lived for the past week?” Blaine suggested.
“You are lucky you didn’t say ‘your bedroom’,” Kurt smiled.
“I assumed you wouldn’t appreciate it.”
“I wouldn’t have.”
The two men walked to the room, their shoulders or hands slightly touching all the time. Once they got inside, Kurt went to sit on the bed and Blaine shut the door. With a small nod from Kurt, the other man sat down on the other side of the bed.
“So…” Blaine said slowly.
“So…” Kurt mimicked him without an intention to mock him.
Blaine smiled and Kurt could see that he was unsure where to start. “Hi, I’m Agent Blaine Anderson, working undercover from time to time.”
“Yeah, I gathered that much already,” Kurt rolled his eyes impatiently. “Better explain what is going on here.”
“Okay, of course,” Blaine said and stayed silent for a few moments. “As you already know, the PAG corp. were doing illegal experiments with humans–”
“Huh? Are you sure?” Kurt mocked him.
“Kurt, if you keep making stupid comments, I won’t tell you anything and you will end up just like Arthur Pendragon.”
Kurt raised one eyebrow, suddenly realising that it’s Blaine who is making a reference about something not-science related and it hit him that Blaine wasn’t really a scientist. “I do have a round table at home…”
“So does Arthur but he still doesn’t know anything about what Merlin has done for him.”
“Fine, tell me what you did for me. I promise to keep my snarky comments for myself,” Kurt agreed and pressed his lips together to show that he wasn’t joking even though it made him look funny.
“Thank you. So, there were always rumours about their illegal actions but no proof whatsoever. The police got nothing but it was still suspicious. That’s why almost a year and a half ago Agent Janitor was infiltrated into the corporation to snoop around.”
Kurt looked at Blaine curiously. “Agent Janitor? You mean–”
“Nobody knows his name so we call him Agent Janitor,” Blaine giggled. “That man has a memory anyone would be jealous of. So after every day he would go back to the base and write the report with anything suspicious he had seen. He would write down all equations he saw, etc. And then our scientists would go through them. But nothing caught our attention until he was trusted enough to work on the top floors. And then the fun began.”
Kurt frowned angrily.
“What? It was a fun case after all those boring drug dealing gangs,” Blaine shrugged. “Anyway, some of the equations were unnerving so the agency decided to get involved more actively. Hence, me here. With some luck, a nice fake CV, and obvious hints that I don’t understand why experiments with humans are against the law, I got in. I couldn’t believe Dr. Pillsbury trusted me that quickly.”
“It must be your eyes,” Kurt teased him.
“Are you flirting with me?” Blaine teased him back.
“No,” Kurt quickly composed himself. “What happened next?”
“Well, I started working here. After each day I had to go to the base and write a report just like I always did but at first it was quite boring. For a couple of months I was only an assistant for a man, whose work didn’t include actual work with people but then we decided to see how the life of the abducted people really was and that’s where Puck comes in. Agent Janitor got the list of all doctors that were in touch with Dr. Pillsbury and we got one of them to contact her and tell her about Puck’s unheard case. Well, unheard for her. At that point I was already well trusted, my intelligence proved, and then add my disinterest in anything around me except the work. So I got to work on my own on Puck’s case. The more I think about it, I start to think that I’m like Harry in the seventh book – in the right place at the right time with the right people.”
“Wait a second,” Kurt couldn’t help but interrupt. “So you do know Harry Potter!”
Blaine shifted on the bed uncomfortably. “Of course I do. It was probably the most difficult lie I have ever told! Pretending not to know the greatest series in the world felt like betraying my childhood heroes. It hurt!”
Kurt rolled his eyes but a small smile still played on his lips. “Drama queen,” he uttered.
“She is my drama queen, she is so wild and reckless,” Blaine sang. “Buuut back to the story… Puck was imprisoned here and I got to work with him. I did the stuff that the scientists at the agency had already done with his blood so I only needed to memorise their work and I was safe in my position. I mean, I had had some basic training but you can’t become a real scientist in a month as well as a scientist can’t become an undercover agent in a short period of time either.”
“So the tests you did with my blood… you already knew they would give you nothing,” Kurt frowned. He was slightly sick of his mood swings.
“You weren’t supposed to be in the picture at all,” Blaine sighed. “What happened today, had been planned for a while. And a bit more than a week ago Dr. Pillsbury came to me and told me about you. I hoped that she wouldn’t be in time to touch you, that it would take more time for her to plan what to do about you. It was easy with Puck because according to his fake life story he had nobody but you had a family. Unfortunately, she didn’t care and the following day you came here. And thanks to you my report was four times longer than normally and I spent the whole night writing it at the base.”
“Did you fall down the stairs because you didn’t get enough sleep?” Kurt asked curiously.
“No, I didn’t really fall. You see, I was kind of half asleep while writing the report and coffee didn’t help much so one of my friends there suggested having a fight to keep my head awake. Hence, the ankle and the black eye.”
“Once again I doubt your competence,” Kurt shook his head disapprovingly.
“You should have seen the other guy,” Blaine winked.
“Is he hot?”
“You are hotter.”
There was a knock on the door and the Chief came in. “I’m sorry to interrupt but I need to talk to you both.”
Kurt looked at the man and unconsciously moved a bit closer to Blaine, who put his hand on his knee.
“First of all, I need to apologise to you, Mr. Hummel for what you had to go through in order to help us reveal the dark secrets of the PAG corp.”
“Save it. I know that you had already had enough proof without me,” Kurt said defensively.
The Chief glared at Blaine but didn’t show his annoyance in any other way. “That’s true but you only add some strong evidence to the case. If you agreed to testify against the corporation, it would be easier to take it down. At least once we find Dr. Pillsbury and Prof. Schuester.”
“Still no sign of them?” Blaine asked, frowning a little.
“No luck so far,” the Chief sighed. “So, Mr. Hummel, would you consider helping us?”
“Of course I will. I want them to pay. Thanks to them I had the worst week in my life and my dad is probably going crazy.”
“Good,” the Chief nodded thoughtfully. “Anderson, you will need to head back home and pack some stuff.”
“Why?” Blaine asked confused.
“We need to keep Mr. Hummel safe. You are moving in with him.”
Yes, yes, yes, I used the secret agency card that I had since the very first chapter of my very first fic. Those who had read I Can Be Dangerous can look at this story as an AU of the ICB series and an alternate meeting of Klaine ;) I will most likely update (and finish this story) tomorrow :)
Comments
I loved Can be Dangerous! What a great twist to this story! I never saw that coming :-) Smut soon?!!! hehe
I'm glad it surprised you! I hope, in a good way? xUm, I know I said there might be more smut in this story but I'm insanely busy today and I still need to finish the last chapter and there is no time to include good smut because I have to finish the story today (as this is Christmas gift)... How about I keep everything for the orgy? :)
