Chapter 7
And so it began...
They were given the timetables for the rest of the week and the next morning they started the lessons. Right away they all realised it wasn’t going to be a nice holiday. Their days were packed with different stuff; from singing to tae kwon do, from shooting to history, from French to calligraphy. Time from waking up at six in the morning and going to bet at twelve at night seemed to run so quickly that the quintet hadn’t noticed how July came.
“To end the class, do two hundred jumping jacks. If anyone stops or falls out of the rhythm, I will add fifty more. Begin,” Coach Shannon instructed.
Santana groaned.
“What was that? You want three hundred? Fine, make it three guys!”
Nobody dared to look angry at the coach or at Santana because it could have ended in more exercises. After all, two weeks were enough to get to now Coach Shannon and her style. Make a mistake – extra exercises. Grab water without a permission – extra exercises. Stop to catch a breath – extra exercises.
“I’m either going to die or kill someone,” Santana whispered trying to catch her breath after they finished and the coach announced the class over.
They all headed to the changing room. It already felt normal to use a common room to change after classes. Boys and girls used different sides of the lockers and they trusted each other not to peek.
“At least it’s the only time we have a fitness class this late. All the others are in the morning,” Kurt said sitting on a bench, too tired to change. They had no class afterwards and nobody else was coming to use the room that evening so they didn’t have to hurry up.
“And look at the bright side – you will sleep really well because of being tired,” Wes pointed out taking a sweaty t-shirt off. There was a visible change in his body.
“I can’t sleep after working out,” Kurt sighed.
They all fell silent. But it wasn’t uncomfortable. It was strange for all of them how quickly they had bonded. Maybe it was Wes’ suggestion to ‘stick together until they figure everything out’, maybe it was natural.
They all got ready for a shower in silence and went to shower – girls to the left, boys to the right. After everyone was ready they left together. Even using short cuts and elevators it took five to ten minutes to reach their dorm rooms. They thought it would take even more because of how sore and tired they were.
I’m going straight to bed. And I’m never going to get out of it, Tina thought closing her eyes and yawning.
Santana picked that up and yawned as well. Sebastian placed his arm around her waist and the girl leaned towards him. It surprised her to no end how he allowed him so close. Not physically, but emotionally. They were actual friends. It was weird for her. Sebastian, on the other hand, just liked having a friend who he could be himself with.
“What day is it?” Wes broke the silence.
“It’s the thirtieth of June. Why?”
“Sarah mentioned appointing personal supervisors for us on the first of July I think.”
“Yes, I remember something,” Kurt said thoughtful.
She did mention personal supervisors. People with experience who had to help the new members as best as he/she could. Such agent would most likely have to stay in the base for a whole year so usually serious agents didn’t bother with supervising. Which meant the Purple Squad wasn’t even considered as a possibility. That made Kurt happy.
After graduation Kurt left Lima and went to New York hoping that the years of torment were finally over. After a short break the torture was back. Kurt didn’t understand what he had done to make the ‘purples’ Noah and Dave angry at him. Though he hadn’t done anything to people at his school either but it didn’t stop them from hating the boy.
The duo picked on him the next morning after arriving. At first it was lemon juice on his clothes. It may have been unintentional. Then it was a shove passing by. Things like that happened all the time on the streets or in supermarkets so maybe it wasn’t on purpose. Then he found his bag soaked in orange juice. Someone might have just– Fine, someone hates me here…
The bright side of this was the fact that there were no slushie machines in the building. The worst part was that nobody paid attention. Of course, Kurt was used to that but now he was surrounded by adults so he expected someone to care.
His friends were sympathetic but clever as well. Jeff had told them not to make the ‘purples’ hate them because they could make their lives a living hell. To be honest, Kurt was used to such behaviour and he didn’t want his squad members to go through the same. He chose to suffer it alone, appreciating their kind words and help to clean himself afterwards. Nevertheless it still hurt.
“Who would you like to be your supervisors?” Sebastian asked them.
“Um… Sam looks nice,” Kurt blushed.
“Oh, someone has a crush!” Santana laughed.
Sam is the straightest person in this place and there is no spark in Kurt’s eyes when he looks at that boy. You must be dumb to think he could have a crush on him, Tina yawned again.
“No, no!” Kurt assured them but he could just tell that they didn’t believe him. There was some teasing coming his way, he was sure about it.
“Whatever,” Sebastian laughed and Kurt growled.
There was silence again and Kurt decided to text Finn. Only then he realised he had only his personal phone.
“Shit, I think I left my phone in the changing room. I’ll go back.”
“Sure. But be silent, I don’t want you to wake me up,” Sebastian said not stopping for a second.
“Okay,” Kurt turned around and went back. “Goodnight!”
They all said ‘goodnights’ and went into an elevator.
Kurt and Sebastian lived in the same dorm room. Santana lived with Tina and Wes had his own room. Sebastian was alright but Kurt was kind of jealous that Wes could live alone. I would be nice to have some personal space. Especially on some certain mornings.
Kurt went into the changing room and found his phone under the bench he had been sitting on. He was surprised to find it there. But he didn’t put much of the thought into it and left.
The boy went as fast as he could considering pain in his calves. He turned right and bumped into someone with a purple t-shirt. Kurt looked up and saw Dave who smiled broadly.
“Good evening, Kuuurt,” he said smiling. As the boy didn’t answer and tried to go passed him, Dave added, “Where are your manners, newbie? Maybe you should take etiquette lessons. Or maybe I could give them to you?”
“I don’t believe you know anything about etiquette,” Kurt said and stepped to his left. To his surprise Dave let him go.
However, the second he though about being lucky he felt a fist on his right hand which was holding the phone. It fell on the ground with a shattering sound.
Dave looked down with a smirk. “Your phone looks awful; you should buy a new one,” he said and left.
Kurt picked his phone up to check the damage. It would probably be impossible to fix it, he thought scolding himself for keeping it in his hand in the first place. Now he needed to go downstairs to fill in a request for the new one. Maybe he could get a new phone tomorrow by lunch. Kurt did the math in his head, It’s almost ten so nobody is working in that department. They will only see the request tomorrow after the breakfast… If not by lunch then in the evening I will definitely have a new phone.
Lost in his thoughts he reached the stairs but didn’t hear silent steps coming up from the floor below. Kurt looked at a painting on the wall and didn’t see there was something on a step. He lost his balance and tripped.
Kurt only had time think how much it was going to hurt when suddenly strong arms caught him by waist. He looked up and saw wide hazel eyes looking straight into his.
