Kurt: You are late.
Blaine sighed. He knew he was running late but there was nothing he could do. He left his apartment at perfect timing so he could meet Kurt just in time. However, he wasn’t very lucky on his way because quite a few people chose that afternoon to talk to him.
“Hi, Blaine,” he heard and turned to see Sarah exiting a room.
Not again, he thought.
“Hello,” Blaine answered politely but didn’t slow down, hoping that the woman didn’t need anything from him.
Unfortunately, she did want something.
“Can we talk for a moment?” she asked, even though the boy didn’t really have a choice of saying ‘no’ to the new, though temporary, head.
“Sure. What is it?” he asked her, slowing his pace a little bit.
Sarah stopped to show that she didn’t want to talk while walking. Blaine cursed internally and stopped as well.
“As you know, I am responsible for sorting the ‘whites’ this year,” the woman said silently, looking around just in case but the corridor was empty. “You are the best agent around here and I could use your advice.”
Blaine looked at her as if she suddenly grew one more head. “What exactly are you talking about? I mean, look at the points they all have and it should pretty much sort them automatically. There isn’t much to think about.”
“But tell me honestly, what squads do you think they should get into?” she insisted.
“Let me think… Wes is somewhere between Red and Blue but I can see him in the Blue Squad, to be honest. Sebastian could do well with the ‘greens’ but his personality is the typical Purple type. Santana is doing really well so I think she is like Wes – between the ‘reds’ and ‘blues’. Tina is stunning – nothing less than the Green Squad for her. She is still shaken by the whole ‘killing the bad guy’ situation during Christmas but Noah told me she was doing much better now. And Kurt… Well, I may be a little biased here. From the professional side I would say he could be a great addition to the Green Squad. But personally I would like to see him wearing either a yellow t-shirt or a purple one.”
“Why is that so?”
Blaine sighed. “I’m an overprotective boyfriend, you know? If he is in the Yellow Squad, I will know that he won’t be in danger all the time. Maybe never. If he is in the Purple Squad I would do whatever it takes to be on all of his missions just to keep an eye on him. If he is in any other, we would be less likely to work together.”
“You really love him,” she said smiling.
“I do,” Blaine smiled. “Could you do me a favour?”
“I don’t know but I promise to consider whatever it is that you want from me.”
Blaine bit his lower lip, arguing with himself because it wasn’t right what he was about to ask. But Kurt would never find out so he was safe. He had to at least try.
“If you consider sorting Kurt into the Green Squad, could you, please, put him into the Blue Squad?”
“Don’t you think he would be happier in the higher squad?”
“He would be more proud of himself, yes. But I would sleep much better if he was in less danger.”
Sarah thought for a second. “Let’s just say,” she whispered as someone was passing by, “after the sorting you will sleep really well.”
Blaine tried to hide his excitement but couldn’t really do that. “Thank you!” he said in a little bit higher pitched voice.
Sarah smiled. “Wait until the end of May – then you can thank me.”
“I will,” Blaine giggled.
“Don’t forget,” she said. “Well, I have to go to the board meeting. I don’t want to be late.”
Blaine nodded thoughtfully. “Have they decided on the new head?” he asked. Blaine had tried asking Burt but the man was secretive.
“The voting is today. That’s why I can’t be late.”
“Well, I won’t keep you then,” Blaine said. “Have a nice day.”
“You too,” she said and went the other direction.
Blaine checked his watch and cursed. He knew he would be late and Kurt might be a bit pissed. Maybe he could sing something from the Wicked to remind the boy of his birthday gift…
“Blainey!” he heard after a few minutes. “Oh, Blainey!”
“Hello to you too, Jeff,” he said tiredly, not stopping for a second.
Jeff ran to catch up with him and walked side by side. “I was watching you and Sarah and–”
Blaine rolled his eyes. “Why do I get this feeling that I’m the only one you watch on those screens of yours?”
“First of all, you are my best friend and I have the right to look over you. Secondly, your life is pretty interesting and hot. Seriously, I watched you and Kurt making out last week and I got a problem in my pants–”
“Note to myself: turn off all the cameras wherever I’m with Kurt,” Blaine muttered.
“–Thirdly, if you didn’t want to be seen, you would simply stay in your apartment,” Jeff continued, ignoring Blaine. “One thousand two hundred fifty sevenly–”
“Is that grammatically correct?”
“–if I follow you on the screens, I get the most amazing gossip. Just now I found out you don’t want Kurt to do well during the sorting.”
Blaine stopped suddenly. He hadn’t thought about it. “Jeff, please, don’t tell him. You heard my reasoning and you know better than anyone why I asked Sarah to do that. But Kurt wouldn’t forgive me if he knew he could have done better and it was my fault why he didn’t. Just don’t tell him, okay?”
“I didn’t even think of telling him. You do know what happens to a messenger who brings bad news? Well, bad things. Especially when Kurt is involved. And he is still a bit bitchy about his birthday morning. But I’m sure he liked that… Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that you may regret that in the future. I mean, I know you – one day you will tell him the truth. And then I won’t want to be around…”
Blaine shook his head. “I’m not changing my mind. I have thought about it and it’s for the best. As long as Kurt doesn’t know it will be just fine.”
“Well, warn me when he finds out so I can stay out of his way,” Jeff said with a sad smile.
“I will.”
“Okay, now go see your man.”
“Do I need to ask you how you know where I’m going?”
Jeff shrugged. “First, he texted you that you were late. Second, the ‘whites’ are about to have their lessons with their supervisors. Third, Kurt told me that today you were going to have a boxing lesson. Fourth, you are being an annoying ass with me right now and it happens only when you want to go ravish the boy but I keep you from that.”
“Well, stop doing that and I will be the nicest ass you have ever met.”
“No offence, but I have seen nicer asses… Anyway, go go go.”
“See you… hopefully never,” Blaine smirked and Jeff punched him in an upper arm. “I know you love me.”
“Sure, Blainey, keep saying this to yourself and maybe one day you will believe that.”
Blaine laughed but didn’t say anything else before walking away.
“Good afternoon, Blaine,” he heard and literally ran into the elevator before that person could say anything else.
It was impolite but Blaine liked having his head on his shoulders and with angry Kurt you could never know what would happen.
When Blaine saw the other boy, he was twelve minutes late. Kurt crossed his arms over his chest.
“Well, finally–”
“I'm limited... Just look at me - I'm limited,” he started singing with an apologetic look on his face.
“Oh, shut up,” Kurt smiled and pulled him into a kiss.
