Chapter 12
Friday downed onto them quickly and Kurt found himself walking into an empty cafeteria with Blaine behind him. It was five in the morning and since their flight was at six, they had all decided to have early breakfast in the base and then try to get some sleep on the plane.
A few people from the catering staff were there to serve them and Kurt grabbed a bowl of fruit salad with yogurt while Blaine decided to stick with some hard boiled eggs and toast. Neither got himself coffee since it would ruin their chances of sleeping during the long trip and they needed to get some rest before they began working on this mission.
They sat down at their usual table and began eating in a comfortable silence since they were both too sleepy to talk. Ever since the Jesse disaster Blaine tried to avoid the singer as much as he could and Kurt made sure to help him by following his boyfriend everywhere. He knew he was way too clingy but all he could think of was the sight of the naked man in front of his boyfriend.
The night before had been pretty intense since the taller man knew that Blaine would soon be left alone with the celebrity and they hadn’t gotten much sleep even though they knew it was pretty unprofessional. Kurt knew that the curly haired man didn’t particularly like not being perfectly ready for a mission but he must have known what this meant to Kurt and didn’t complain when he woke him up yet again for another round of sex. As always, Blaine made him feel like he was more important than his job and it made Kurt feel warm inside. Now he needed to survive this mission and the inappropriate man would be out of their lives, hopefully forever.
When they were half through the meal, other ‘blacks’ began to appear in the cafeteria, all sleepy and grumpy. Santana was doing the worst with sleep deprivation.
“I just don’t understand, why do they insist on us living in Europe and then making us fly at unholy hours to the States and back for missions? It makes zero sense,” Kurt heard her whine to Sugar when they were walking to their table with trays in their hands.
“It’s safer this way. Very few people would expect the main base to be located so far away. Not to mention that many missions take place in other continents as well,” the other girl explained once they sat down.
“Morning,” Blaine and Kurt mumbled, their eyes heavy with sleep.
“You two are early,” Santana said and yawned widely, her right hand covering her mouth.
“No, we were on time. You two and all others are late,” Kurt said in response and put a piece of pineapple in his mouth.
Sugar looked at his plate disapprovingly. “You know that you will get all this energy from your fruits and you won’t be able to fall asleep, right?”
“I’m sure I’ll do fine. I didn’t feel like having anything heavy right now. I’m not hungry anyway,” the man said and pushed his empty bowl away from himself.
“You can eat something on the plane later,” Blaine said and continued with his breakfast.
“Make sure I don’t fall onto my plate if I suddenly fall asleep while eating,” Santana asked in all seriousness and began to eat.
Soon Tina and Jeff came into the cafeteria, the man chatting excitedly while the girl hardly listened to him. A few moments later Noah, Finn and Mike joined them, all whispering among themselves.
“What’s all that about?” Blaine asked Tina and Jeff with a frown, watching the three agents talking in a small circle.
“No idea, they have been pretty weird this morning,” the girl explained. “Mike, Finn and I were coming here and Noah met us on the way and wanted to talk to them only so I don’t have a clue what’s happening.”
They watched the men getting some food and then walking slowly towards them. “Cool, we can interrogate them now,” Jeff smiled brightly and they all waited in silence for the men to sit down.
“So,” Finn began and glanced at Mike for approval, “make sure you don’t make any mistakes this weekend, alright?”
“Oh, shit, I was planning to make some as soon as we land,” Santana grimaced.
Noah glared at her. “It’s not funny. Seriously, we have no right to fuck up. Everything must go perfectly.”
“What’s going on?” Blaine asked and put his fork down on the plate.
“People have been talking,” the ex-‘purple’ uttered. “This mission wasn’t a secret since so many people are working on it and I’ve heard some people from our former squad saying that people from their squad should have gotten our tasks.”
“I don’t get it,” Sugar interrupted him. “Why would they say that?”
Mike couldn’t stay silent any longer. “This mission is pretty big and people obviously wanted to be a part of it. Not to mention all those celebrities we are about to meet.”
“Well, it’s not our fault we got to be on this mission,” Tina shrugged. “They can’t really hate us for that.”
Finn and Mike shared a look again. “That’s the problem… It’s not us they are angry at, it’s Burt,” Finn finally said.
“What?” Kurt snapped, his sleepiness leaving him instantly. “Why would they be angry at him? He is just doing his job.”
“People think that he is biased since his two sons are on this squad,” Noah rolled his eyes.
“Wait, they think he is playing favourites?” Sugar’s eyes widened. “I mean, look at our first mission, it’s something even the Yellow Squad could have done but you don’t hear us complaining.”
“And what happened to us being the ‘badass squad’? Did people forget we are all sort of cool?” Jeff asked confused.
“The rumours died out, people saw that we were all normal and not violent as they had thought in the beginning. Also, don’t forget the jealousy adds a lot,” Mike said with a shrug.
“So yeah, no pressure but we can’t fuck up,” Noah summed up.
“I can’t believe this,” Kurt shook his head.

After the breakfast the whole squad drove to a small private airport that belonged to the C.A.T. and luckily wasn’t far away from the base. Jesse had already been there when the rest of them boarded the agency’s plane and Kurt led the way to the seats as far from the man as they could get. While the crew was getting ready, Kurt quickly typed a text message.
Kurt: Hey, Wes, just wanted to let you know that I’m going to be away this weekend. Talk to you on Monday most likely. Take care!
“You two still talk?” Blaine asked obviously curious.
“A couple of messages a day,” Kurt shrugged. “He’s working for his father right now. It seems that he is doing okay.”
Blaine put a seat belt on as the plane’s engines began to work. “I’m glad he is. He lives in New York, right? Maybe we should meet up with him next time we are there.”
“Or maybe,” Kurt said as an idea hit him, “he could come to LA on Sunday in-between our mission and the trip to England.”
“That would be cool. I’m sure Sugar would be excited,” Blaine agreed made himself more comfortable in his seat. “Suggest it.”
Kurt nodded at quickly typed a new message.
Kurt: Scratch that, we will be in LA this weekend. Would you be able to meet us on Sunday?
“Done,” Kurt smiled and turned his phone off. After putting it into his bag, he snuggled at Blaine’s side. “Goodnight.”
Blaine chuckled at how adorable his boyfriend was. “It’s morning.”
“Yeah,” Kurt whispered and felt the sleep take over.
Next thing he knew someone was shaking his shoulder and Kurt opened his eyes reluctantly. Through a mist he saw Blaine’s gentle features.
“Hey, sleepy head, time to wake up,” he said softly.
“Why?” Kurt asked groggily and stretched his aching muscles.
“Because you need to eat and if you sleep any longer, it’s going to be more difficult to deal with the jet lag,” the man explained.
“Fine,” Kurt knew that Blaine was right but it didn’t make him feel any better. “I need to go to the bathroom.”
Blaine smirked at this and stood up letting Kurt out of his seat. “Want to join the Mile High Club?”
“I don’t think any of our asses could handle any more sex right now.”
“Tmi, dude!” Noah shouted from the seat in front of them.
“Are the images I’m putting in your head too hot for you to handle?” Kurt asked with a teasing smile and left.
“I love him so much,” he heard Blaine say and Finn, sitting with Noah, said something about the ‘hardcore agent being smitten like a teenage girl.’
The rest of the flight was spent chatting, playing cards, and watching various films in attempt to make the time go faster. When their captain announced that they would soon begin landing, Blaine stood up and walked to the front so everyone could see him.
“Okay, so I was asked by Burt to give the last minute instructions and reminders,” he began to speak. “We are approaching the airport of the C.A.T. right now. There are people from the LA division waiting there for us and they will take us to their base where we are going to spend the night. They are giving us three triple rooms. As for Jesse, someone will take you to your hotel from the airport.
“Tomorrow everyone has to be at their given locations at six sharp. You have the schedules of your subjects and you will follow them everywhere they go as their temporary bodyguards and assistants throughout Saturday and a part of Sunday morning. If your subject wants to attend an after party, which most of them will, you will go with them. If not, you will stay outside their hotel room or outside their house until the contract is over. According to the contracts you are to provide security to them until ten in the morning on Sunday but if you feel that they are in any danger, you must stay for as long as it takes, just make sure to inform the others. If everything goes smoothly, we will all be meeting back in the base at twelve. Is everything clear?”
“If something happens, should we inform each other or Burt, or anyone else?” Tina asked shyly and Kurt felt grateful since in the last mission he could always ask Blaine anything on a spot and now for the first time he would be on his own, just like Tina, Santana, and Jeff.
“Shit,” Blaine cursed. “I always forget that we have some inexperienced agents here. Okay, so your task is to protect your subject. If you see that he or she is in danger, take care of it. If you believe that other people face danger as well, you need to inform the head of the LA division, whose contacts will be given when we arrive. Other than that, don’t try to eliminate the danger, focus on your task, which is to protect your subject. Also, do not contact each other unless it’s something vital. Everyone needs to be focused on their tasks and some misleading message may cause problems. Did I answer your question, Tina?”
The girl nodded, her cheeks slightly pink. “Yeah, thanks, Blaine.”
“Listen guys, you will do great,” the man said with an easy smiled. “I know it might be scary to be on your own but you are ready. Just remember what you learned in the training and you’ll be fine. We all believe in you.”
“Me too,” Jeff cut in and everyone laughed. The mood lightened.
The captain announced that they are beginning the landing and Blaine had to go back to his seat. Kurt only hoped that he wouldn’t disappoint his dad and his squadmates. Deep down though, he knew he was ready.
<~*~>
Kurt: Hey, Wes, just wanted to let you know that I’m going to be away this weekend. Talk to you on
Kurt: Scratch that, all ‘blacks’ will be in LA this weekend. Would you be able to come meet us on Sunday?
Wes: Hey, I’ll be in LA for the weekend! But I don’t know if I’ll have time to meet you, guys. I’ll let you know.
…
Wes: Kurt just told me they will be in LA this weekend. He is becoming more open with me.
Tom: Keep it up.
…
Tom: The boy began to reveal more information already.
Richard: Doesn’t matter. I just found out that Burt is sending very few people from the main base. We have to put off our plans.
Tom: Should we stop with the boy?
Richard: No. We will use him later.
Richard: Tell Steven to keep a close eye on all of them while they are in LA.
