Author's Notes: This didn't come out exactly how I expected it, but here it is. I'm happy with how it turned out, though. I'm really excited about this. We'll see where it goes from here!

Kurt stared at Blaine, unable to hide the surprise and hurt that flashed across his face. He tried to speak, tried to come up with words to comfort his obviously confused boyfriend.

“Where’s Wes?” Blaine’s voice demanded, shaking Kurt out of his stupor.

“Hey, hey. Blaine, it’s okay. Just breathe for a minute, okay?” His voice was more solid than he had expected, but it was blessing.

“Who the hell are you and why do you know my name!” The more Blaine spoke, the more it started to turn to panic.

Kurt pressed the nurse button quickly and got off of the bed.

“Calm down. Blaine, you’ve been in an accident and you’re confused.” Kurt tried to maintain the strength in his voice, despite the hurt creeping back in. The nurse was there in seconds.

“What can I d- oh. Well, hello there. You’re awake!” She said in her overly cheerful voice. Kurt was glad for interruption, glad for the opportunity to breathe.

“Where am I?” Blaine said, looking to the nurse now. Her presence seemed to comfort him, assure him that he wasn’t in danger. “What happened?”

“Sweetheart, you were hit pretty hard with a baseball bat. You got lucky and only got a couple easy-peasy stitches.” She said as she checked his fluid bag.

“Who is he?” He said, flicking his eyes to Kurt. Kurt swallowed the big lump forming in his throat.

“That’s your…well…he said he was your boyfriend.” She said, eyeing him hesitantly now.

“That’s ridiculous. I’ve never seen him in my life.” He replied, looking at Kurt as if Kurt had been the ultimate betrayal of his trust. Which is crazy, because apparently Kurt didn’t have any of Blaine’s trust.

“No, I can prove it!” Kurt said quickly, fishing for Blaine’s phone, looking through his pictures.

“What are you doing! You have no right to touch that!” Blaine said, sitting up quickly and reaching for his phone. Kurt was panicked as the nurse snatched the phone and helped Blaine settle back down.

“Just calm down, sweetheart.” She said gently before looking at Kurt. “You should probably go. Wait in the waiting room and we’ll get you if Blaine decides it’s okay.” She said, sounding almost at betrayed as Blaine did. Kurt just stared, unable to move. Finally, he was able to peel the glue off the soles off his shoes and walk into the waiting room.

He was running on auto-pilot, trying to put together exactly what had just happened. Look at the facts, Kurt. His brain told him. Over and over he went over the two minutes of confusion that had just happened. He pulled his legs up onto the chair he was now sitting in, holding his legs to himself in an attempt to regain the feeling in his chest. He was just so numb, and so confused. He told himself that Blaine was just foggy from the medicine and hit to the head. That was the only explanation, right? The most logical one, at least. He was terrified, never-the-less. Terrified this was too big for him to fix.

But as soon as the nurse finally came out, which felt like hours later, she looked at him with those eyes that say “this isn’t going to be good news”. He voice was cheery though as she explained.

“So what we’ve decided is that Blaine has in fact suffered from a severe concussion. He doesn’t remember anything about what happened, about you, or even about the school he’s attending. He said something about Dalton Academy and his friend Wes, but he wouldn’t tell us much more. He’s still working off the pain medicine daze, though we just gave him another dose to ensure his comfort.” She explained. Suddenly, she looked a little more grim. “But…”

“But?” Kurt said, trying to get her to continue.

“We’ve seen several cases like this. Most of the time….most of the time patients regain their memory. Other times…it can be more severe.” She was obviously choosing her words carefully. With a firm look from Kurt, she said the words he’d been dreading. “Blaine may never regain his memory.” She said grimly. Kurt just nodded, too afraid to say or do anything else.

He didn’t remember the nurse saying anything else, or leaving for that matter, but the next thing he registered was Carole saying his name for what was probably not the first time.

“Kurt, honey. It’s time to get going.” She said gently, wrapping an arm around his shoulders and trying to get him up. Kurt didn’t budge.

“No, I can’t.” He said simply. “I have to see him before I leave.”

“Sweetheart, he doe-.” She tried to continue, but Kurt cut her off, finally making eye contact.

“I’m not going anywhere until I at least say goodbye.” He said, voice devoid of emotion but firm. Carole sighed and nodded once. He heard something about her being in the car, but Kurt was too busy thinking about what was going to happen when he walked back into that room. Maybe it was all just a terrible dream.

He took his time walking back, trying to map out what he wanted to say. As soon as he stepped in to the room, his stomach dropped. Seeing Blaine again was just as shocking as the first time he saw him after he was finally let in.

Blaine slowly looked up from his phone. He stared at Kurt’s face, studying him before looking down at his phone. He furrowed his brow in confusion before looking back up again.

“Are these real?” He asked in an almost gruff voice. So Blaine had been looking at the pictures Kurt had been trying to find. Kurt hesitantly nodded and Blaine let out a confused groan.

“I don’t….I don’t remember any of this.” He said. “I don’t know what to believe, I’m sorry.”

Kurt watched him from the doorway, watched as Blaine tried to dig through his mind to remember everything Kurt could see in the blink of an eye. Blaine seemed so distraught that it made Kurt feel absolutely stupid for being hurt that Blaine couldn’t remember him. Instead, he felt like he was abandoning him in his time of need. He felt so helpless.

Finally, Kurt took a breath to speak. “It’s okay, Blaine.” He said softly, reminding himself that memory or not, Blaine was still the most important thing in his life. He’d just have to find away to help him remember.

Blaine’s eyes drifted to him again, looking him over as if something keeps changing. “You’re not a stranger.” He said softly. “But I feel like…like I can’t place you. I know I know you. I just don’t know how.” He said, trying his best to explain exactly how he was feeling. His eyebrows furrowed again, this time he winced.

“Hey…” Kurt said, slowly walking to him. “You just need some rest, okay? Good rest.”

“Are you going to leave me?” Blaine said, panicked at the words. Kurt’s heart ached at the sight. “No one else is here for me.” He said, motioning around the room. “And stranger or not…the look on your face says that you care about me.”

Kurt nodded slowly. “I’m here for you, Blaine. I always will be.” He said softly. Blaine quietly pointed to the chair next to the bed and Kurt hesitantly took the seat.

“Will you stay until I fall asleep?” He asked, sleepiness already present in his voice. There was the vulnerability again. It made Kurt’s stomach clench and he had to physically bite his tongue to hold back the sob building its way up.

“Absolutely.” Kurt responded softly. “And I’ll be here in the morning with a Medium Drip and croissants.” He said, managing a weak smile.

Blaine looked at him in surprise. “You…you know my coffee order?” He was almost whispering.

“Of course I do.” Kurt said with another soft smile. He watched as Blaine’s eyelids fluttered closed, letting the medicine take over again and let him sleep.
