Author's Notes: .
Walter was silent, hazel eyes fixed in road. He barely said a word since they got in the car and Kurt could tell that whatever Penny had said to him, it was still reverberating inside of man, corrupting his thoughts and weighting his chest with guilty.
Kurt knew he had to say something. By supporting him to go through the procedure Walter was doing the right thing, it was the best way of keeping everyone safe, of keeping Blaine safe.
"Walter-"
"Are really sure about this?" Walter interrupted Kurt before the android could offer him any sort of comfort. Walter didn't need comfort, he needed Kurt t be sure of the choice he was about to make.
"I am" Kurt nodded. He truly was, he didn't know what it was going to happened with him, but he couldn't bring himself to care about the risks if that meant assure the safety of the ones he loved. "T-this is the only way of keep us save".
Walter took a sharp breathe. "You know I care about you right?" It's strained, not much more than a groan of effort, "You don't think I am just trying to save my ass or something like that, do you? I-I swear if there was any other way… You know I wouldn't support you going through this. I would stop Kurt, I really would" The man wasn't looking at Kurt and the android was thankful for it.
Kurt wouldn't be able to handle the broken look on Walter's face. Stare in those hazel eyes and know he was the cause of such pain; it would have been too much, Kurt wouldn't able to keep his strong facade. And it didn't matter if he was, in fact scared, terrified, if deep down Kurt didn't want anything more than his father's arms around him, assuring him everything was going to be okay. Burt was dead, he had been murdered, and if Kurt wasn't strong enough to protect those he loved now, they would be faded to the same destiny.
"Of course I know that Walter, I would have to be really stupid to doubt it, after all you and Penny have done for me, all you guy risked-" He sniffed "I know you care okay?"
Walter took in another breath, tightening his grip on the wheel. "If you don't want to go through with this you don't have to feel pressured or anything, you are allowed to change your mind, you know that right Kurt?"
Kurt placed a reassuringly hand on the man's shoulder, "Neither you or Artie are pressuring me in doing anything Walt, regardless what Penny may think, I decided do this because I really think this is the best way to assure everyone safety, mine included."
"So we are really going through with this huh?" Walter asked, still not able to look in Kurt's face.
"Yes" Kurt nodded retrieving his hands to himself. "We are going through this"
Walter's face twitched around uncomfortably, lips struggling with the word he would not say. "Alright kiddo, if that is you want"
More than anything he wished Kurt changed his mind.
And not far from there a certain ginger federal newbie threw her favorite mug against her bedroom's wall, as if such small taste of destructiveness could change the fact the android, the boy, she had saved not so long ago and learned to love, was about to put himself through a procedure that would probably damage in such way he wouldn't ever recognize her next time they see each other.

"Where is Walter?" Blaine asked as he entered the room.
Kurt was sat in the futon, blue eyes glued to a magazine placed on his lap. If wasn't for the uncomfortable atmosphere taking over the place Blaine would probably not give much thought on the fact Kurt didn't look up and meet his eyes.
"He went out for a couple of drinks" Kurt said, keeping his gaze away from Blaine's. He just couldn't bring himself to look Blaine in the eyes, not when he was about to put himself through a procedure that could leave him barely functional and couldn't work out the courage to tell Blaine.
"I-" Blaine hesitated, hand slowly dropping. He didn't have anything to say, not really, not when Kurt's factures are so closed off and distant, when the android's body was so tense, as if ready to bolt if Blaine dared to move closer. "And how are you?" he murmured softly.
"Fine" Kurt lied, voice just a little hoarser than usual. He hoped Blaine wouldn't notice. Blaine did. How couldn't he? His boyfriend couldn't meet even his eyes. And besides, Kurt had been behaving weirdly since he felt sick in Santana's party.
Blaine licked his lips, still desperately searching for Kurt eyes, but aware of the words slipping from his mouth. "About Walter… This drinking is getting more usual lately. Do you think we should worry?"
Kurt bit his lower lip. If Walter was falling again in a dangerous routine of drinking himself to oblivion it was partly his fault. Because of him Walter found himself in this mess, because of him Walter had fought with Penny. "He said something about hanging out with a friend" the android murmured, sounding somewhere other, voice small.
They lapsed on silence again, an uncomfortable, painfully silence.
Kurt kept his eyes on the Vogue placed on his lap as if it was the most interesting thing in whole world, but Blaine knew better. He could tell there was something boiling up inside Kurt's chest, something toxic and destructive that once it exploded it would probably hurt them both beyond repair.
It was almost too much for Blaine and while tangling his fingers in his curls, the boy honestly considered running away from there to find a way of punishing himself for being such a coward. He couldn't even bring himself to reach and touch Kurt, let alone confront him. And how pathetic was that?
Blaine' eyes fluttered shut, face pained. Lost in his own corrupted thoughts, Blaine was really close of actually doing, of leaving, when he felt cold fingers being wrapped on his forearms. "Blaine is everything okay with you?" Kurt asked blue eyes filled with worry, lower lip caught between his teeth.
And even thought Kurt finally had his eyes on Blaine, the older boy still couldn't help but wish he hadn't. Looking in those pools of pure blue Blaine could see so clearly how Kurt have keeping so much pain tucked inside of him, hidden behind so countless "I'm fines".
"Tell me is everything okay with you" Blaine murmured, voice hoarse, invading Kurt's personal space. He curled his fingers around Kurt's arms, clenching at his wrists. "Please just tell again how you just have low levels of sugar in your blood and that for now on you will always carry a candy bar with you" For a brief moment, all the fears that had been tormenting Blaine seem to took over his expression in a silent, but incredibly raw question. Why are you lying to me?
"I-I only have low sugar level in my blood and for n-now on I will always carry candies bar with me" Kurt lied, repeating what Blaine wanted, needed, to hear "I am fine" he assured quietly. Because it was almost the truth. Kurt was fine. He was functional – at least for now.
Tomorrow he would go through an experiment that could get end with him severely damaged, and if this was in fact his last night entirely functional, why couldn't he allow himself to spend it gathered by Blaine's arms? Kurt knew it was selfish, that he should tell Blaine the truth, but had Kurt done anything until now that wasn't purely selfish? He dragged Penny, Walter, Artie to this mess and then he let himself to be involved by Blaine, all because, even though he didn't even had a heart beating in his chest Kurt just couldn't give up on love, of being loved. And besides, Blaine would probably hate him if knew the truth. And Kurt couldn't spent what could be possibly his last hours functional being hated by his boyfriend, watching as the warmth of Blaine's hazel of his eyes replaced by disgust.
"I'm fine," Kurt said again, stepping forwards. He had no intention of pushing Blaine's hands away from his skin. Not when his touch, his presence was so reassuring.
It was really hard to feel like his world was collapsing in on itself when Blaine had his hands on him, when he clung like that, as if doing so Blaine could make sure everything was really okay with Kurt. The android knew Blaine deserved more, someone whose heart really speeded up by his touch, but selfishly he couldn't bring himself to care, because the way those hands pulled at him grounded Kurt to a humanity that felt more illusory at each passing day.
Blaine lunged forwards, wrapping his arms around Kurt's neck and pushing him backwards until they fell onto the mattress. Drawn by the android's unbelievably blue eyes, he caressed Kurt's face, his whole body feeling tight as he watched the unshed tears burning his boyfriend's eyes. He knew Kurt was lying, but Blaine was too afraid to confront him. He was too much of coward and deep down he wanted Kurt to keep lying to him if that meant have him like this, closer, his.
Blaine leaned in and the kiss that followed was bruising, actually more a bite than a kiss, desperate and rough. Blaine's strong hands held Kurt close and the android couldn't help but moan, feeling weak at his knees. His own hands found their way to Blaine's jacket, gripping the thick fabric between his trembling fingers before push it off the boy's shoulders, holding at Blaine's biceps instead.
It was like electricity was spreading beneath Kurt's skin, burning its way through his nerves. He wondered if that wanting someone really felt like that, or if it was another of his system's pale imitations. Could be that the way his whole body reacted to Blaine's touch and to the older boy's demanding lips, trembling as if his own skin was suddenly too constricting, just a cheap imitation of the real thing? Kurt's body was still a stranger; he had spent his whole life fooled by his assumed humanity. He never really tested his limits, experiment with his reactions and functions. What if his creators weren't as good as Artie thought and Kurt displayed some freaky robot-like reflex? The thought startled him causing Blaine, whom had been kissing Kurt like he never wanted to stop, all open mouth, and wet slide of tongue, to retrain himself.
He pulled back, holding onto Kurt's shoulders. "Tell me if you want to stop," Blaine bit the words into Kurt's chin, hazel eyes fixated into Kurt's blue ones as he opened the first two buttons of the android's shirt. "Please say something if you don't want this"
"I want you" Kurt murmured. He wanted. He needed Blaine, and well, if something freaky happened he could always come up with some excuse; he already did before, didn't he? And if this was going to be his last night functional he was decided to not waste it. He tangled his fingers into Blaine's curls encouraging his boyfriend as Blaine kissed his chest, slowing working the buttons of his shirt open.
Kneeled on the bed in the space between Kurt's parted knees, pressing soft kisses to the android's skin, Blaine once more glanced up to meet Kurt's eyes, "Are you really sure?" he asked curling his fingers around Kurt's ribcage before duck his fingertips bellow the thick material of Kurt's jeans. At that Kurt did hold his breath but there was so much depth in Blaine's eyes, so much caring that he nodded closing his eyes.
Sensing Kurt's nervousness, Blaine crawled back up framing's Kurt's face with both hands before guide him into a deep, searing kiss. That was safe, familiar territory for them, and as expected it soothed Kurt, relaxing him. It wasn't anything new for Kurt to have Blaine like that, pressed against him and neither was the feeling of being lightheaded by the smell of Blaine's skin and the taste of his lips. Blaine dragged his fingers along the edge of Kurt's jaw, tipping his head so he could mouth the boy's neck. He knew he was not allowed to let bruises there, but Kurt's skin tasted so good, and it would be just so easy to leave a mark that Blaine had to force himself to pull away before he succumbed to temptation.
Straddling at Kurt's lap, he removed his t-shirt feeling amused by the way Kurt's eyes widened and his pale fingers twitched, wanting, but too afraid of touch. "You can touch me" Blaine assured taking Kurt's hands between his before placing them on his chest "I want you to" He breathed, biting his lower lip as Kurt's hands explored hid chest, making their way down, fingers sweeping over his nipples. He could feel Kurt's under him, hard, aching. It impressed Blaine how his boyfriend was managing to keep himself on control. During Blaine's his first time doing something remotely sexual things were quite different, he didn't lasted more than a few minutes before embarrassed himself in front of his first one night stand.
Kurt hands stopped on the edge of Blaine's jeans and he glanced up, wide eyed. "Oh" Blaine thought, so there was where they were going to draw a line. Okay he could deal with that. "How about this" Blaine breathed tipping Kurt's head in order of mouth at Kurt's throat, nipping there gently as he positioned himself over Kurt so he could rock into him, the slow drag of his erection against Kurt's causing the android to groan as his hips rose involuntarily.
Blaine would be lying if he said didn't want more, that he hadn't been dreaming with to the moment he would have Kurt beneath him, naked and begging, but he had been Kurt's first kiss, and this was the first time they did anything besides making out and Blaine wouldn't be a jerk and pressure for anything Kurt wasn't ready to give. This was fine, actually more than fine, even if they still had their pants on this still felt like the most intimate thing Blaine even done. He could honestly say he never felt so connected, so loved. His breathe was turning unsteady and hot against the skin of the android's neck and Blaine could still feel a hint of nervousness on the way Kurt held at his arms, but if his half open eyes and the way he squirmed under Blaine was any indication, Blaine was pretty sure Kurt's was enjoying himself.
"L-like this?" Kurt asked, moaned, digging his fingernails at Blaine's shoulders. He felt Blaine smiling against his skin before the Blaine placed hot kisses low on the side of his neck. "Just like this" Blaine breathed, voice hoarse, right on that spot behind Kurt's ear. He rolled his hips forward, the hard shape of his cock pressing against Kurt's through their pants, making the android to see white on his closed eyelids.
Apparently Kurt had actually auto-pilot programmed as one of his functions, because at that point his hips seemed to be moving on their own, desperately chasing the burning, frustrating heat caused by the friction of their clothed erections rubbing together. It was like his brain had shorted out and it kind surprised Kurt how much he actually like it. And something about Blaine's breathe, how it turned more uneven and shakier as they frenetically rubbed together, made Kurt pretty sure he wasn't the only one enjoying the way Blaine was taking the lead of the whole thing.
Blaine was practically riding his thigh, shoving his hips down as Kurt hands clutched at his shoulders trying to keep Blaine close as his hips thrust up in quick, jerky movements. Kurt was throbbing, each roll of Blaine's hips on top of him pushing painfully close.
It didn't take much more than Blaine moaning "Kurt" next to his ear so the android found his release, squeezing his eyes shut, and trusting up hard, pleasure spreading through his nerves so fast that it is almost painful. "B-Blaine" he cried out breathlessly, burying his fingers into Blaine's curls and tugging at it.
Crashing their lips together, Blaine lost it, groans muffled by Kurt's lips and hips moving in a few short, hard thrusts before his body went limp. He still allowed himself to weight over Kurt for a few minutes, catching his breath before roll around, almost falling off the single bed.
"We should totally ask Walter for a king size" he murmured causing Kurt to burst in giggles. And damn, if that wasn't the most beautiful sound Blaine ever heard, "C'mon could just imagine how much fun we would have in a king size?" he laughed brining Kurt closer, kissing his on the forehead as the android pillowed his head against his chest.
"Yeah" Kurt murmured, heart weighted by the probability that maybe after tomorrow he could not be functional enough to have any kind of fun.

"ARTIE TOMORROW YOU WILL DO AN IMPORTANT PROCEDURE, YOU SHOULD SLEEP" Eugene had his arms crossed above his metallic chest and, if he could, he probably would have a disapproving expression on his face.
Artie sighed, taking off his glasses and rubbing his eyes. "I don't know if I can"
"WELL YOU CERTAINLY WON'T GET ANY SLEEP IN FRONT OF THAT SCREEN, SO WHAT ABOUT GO TO YOUR ROOM AND MAKE USE OF YOUR BED FOR A CHANGE?" Eugene pointed out.
"I am not talking about that Genie, I don't know if I can go through with this" Artie looked at his best friend with a worn out expression "I know I promise Kurt but what if I screw up?"
Eugene approached, kneeling in front of Artie and squeezing the boy's shoulder between his metallic fingers. "YOU WON'T, YOU ARE THE BEST"
Artie snorted looking away. "No, I am not"
"YOU BROUGHT ME BACK DIDN'T YOU?" Eugene pressed. He wouldn't allow Artie to doubt himself. He was the best and nothing would convince Eugene otherwise.
"I know but I am so afraid, Walter and Penny won't forgive me if I fucked up Kurt's functions" Artie let out a ragged breathe "God I won't be able to forgive myself if I screw up."
"GOOD THING THERE WILL BE NOTHING TO BE FORGIVEN ONCE YOU WON'T SCREW UP A THING" Eugene assured causing Artie to smile a little. I wish I was half as optimist as you Genie"
"WELL SOME DAY I WILL GIVE YOU A FEW LESSONS THEN, BUT NOW IS TIME TO SLEEP. C'MON" Eugene titled his head towards the exit when an alarm echoed in the small lab.
"Wait-" Artie put his glasses on again, before his eyes widened. "Fuck"
"WHAT? DID YOU FIND SOMETHING?" Eugene looked at the screen not really understanding what was going on.
"I think so Genie…. I think so" Artie grinned fingers already typing frenetically, as if in their own motion.

"Walter thank god you picked up Penny is ignoring my calls" Artie breathed soon as Walter picked up.
"She is ignoring everyone's calls Artie…" Walter sighed, raising his empty glass toward the bartender. "But hey, shouldn't you be sleeping by now? You have to do highly dangerous procedure tomorrow don't you think a night of sleep could some good?" he said as he had poured another shot of whisky.
"I think I found out something!" Artie squealed unable to contain his excitement.
"Do you what?" Walter almost choked on his whisky "When, what it is-"
"Is not very substantial but is something, and if you give me just a few more days I am sure I will find out more and we won't have to risk Kurt's functionality putting him through a dangerous procedure" Artie rushed, crumpling the files between his fingers.
"Okay, okay but what did you found out on Avalon's database?" Walter pressed on even though after his fight with Penny, Walter would take pretty much anything if that mean not have to put Kurt's life in danger.
"I found a register from Avalon's administrative center that makes a reference to a project called Metempsychosis requesting for office supplies" Artie explained, equilibrating his cell phone between his chin and shoulder as he sent to Walter's e-mail the said reports.
Walter frowned. "Like pens and stuff?"
"Yeah, it's a almost twenty six years old document, but it mentions a project named Metempsychosis and-"
Walter sighed tiredly before interrupt Artie "An almost thirty-years-old document asking for pens, is that all you got?"
"I know, I know, but the person who signed the request was named Olav Schmitt!" Artie pointed out as if that name was supposed to mean something to Walter.
It didn't it. "And who the fuck is Olav Schmitt?"
"Back then just a robotic engineer student working as trainee in Avalon's industries" Artie smiled "But years later he become one of the most respectable professors of The University of Frankfurt and I don't really have to tell you who worked as his T.A for years do I?"
"Gunter?" Walter asked, eyebrows furrowed.
"Exactly!" Artie cried excitedly "It can't be just a coincidence that Avalon Industry had a Project named Metempsychosis active 30 years ago and that one of the trainees involved later become Gunter's Professor"
"You are right…" Walter smiled; it couldn't be only a coincidence. "But how about this project, do you have some information on what it consisted?"
"Not yet and it had been really hard to find any other mention about it, but f you give me a few days, just a week or so, I am sure I will find something" Artie promised. He wouldn't sleep or eat until he found something.
"Alright I will talk with Kurt but until you find something you have to be careful, do not go out unless is really necessary"
************
"Morning' beautiful" Blaine murmured pressing his lips on Kurt's forehead and causing the android to open his eyes. The sunlight was already invading the room through the window's louvers and Kurt could barely believe he actually manage to get some sleep last night.
He looked up at Blaine and frowned, the older boy was already fully dressed, leather jacket on and bag lunched on his right shoulder, and even though the sun was already up, it still was too damn early, Walter wasn't even up yet.
"Why are you up so early?" Kurt yawned, supporting himself on his elbows.
"I have to stop by Quinn's. Her car is broke remember?" Blaine explained brushing away the locks of Kurt's chestnut hair that insisted on fall above the android's forehead.
"How about breakfast?" Kurt insisted, voice small. He could bring himself to care if he was sounding needy or clingy. He wanted more time with Blaine. More than anything Kurt wished he could imprint Blaine's hazel eyes, his triangular eyebrows and the taste of the boy's lips on his memory, in that way, even if something went terribly wrong in the procedure Kurt was going to put himself through later in that day, the android still could hope he wouldn't forget this gorgeous boy and they way Blaine's voice sometimes broke just a little when he said Kurt's name.
"I will grab something in my way to Quinn's, I promised her some decent coffee" Blaine smiled before frame Kurt's face with his hands and press his lips against the android's in a soft kiss.
When Blaine broke away he was blushing furiously, not really looking into Kurt's eyes as he rubbed his neck nervously "Last night… It was really, you know, uh-" Blaine was just too adorable when he tried to look for the right words, making his best to give Kurt some "flick chick" moment, stepping completely out his comfort zone because he thought it would make Kurt feel good, comfortable. Even though Blaine hadn't any idea how, he still tried his best to meet Kurt's silly notions of romance.
"It was perfect" Kurt cut in, smiling.
"Yeah it was" Blaine grinned. Even though they hadn't taken things further and there was not near enough nakedness involved, what they did in the previous night still had been the most intimate moment Blaine ever shared with someone.
"Well now I really have to go" Blaine stood, looking at his phone's screen. He was already late. "I will text you soon math class starts" he teased causing Kurt to giggle.
"See ya Ice Queen" Blaine waved, lips tug in a smile as he gripped the door handle. Kurt really wanted to say something, a proper goodbye, but the lumps forming in his throat didn't allow him to, so he just nodded smiling weakly before Blaine left their room.
That could be the last time Kurt would be able of acknowledging Blaine's presence, and the fact Kurt wasn't brave enough to tell his boyfriend the truth or at least say goodbye to him made the android feel sick. He fell back into the mattress, breath short, heart slamming against his ribcage, head swimming while he fought back the tears burning his eyes and the sick pungent bitterness pooling on his stomach.
Kurt couldn't take this anymore, all the lies, living in constant danger, the fact he didn't do anything but hurt everybody he cared about. Damn Penny couldn't even pick his calls anymore.
A few time ago he was just a kid who spent his days trying to convince his dad to get them tickets to see Wicked for his 18th birthday, how the hell he was expected to deal with all this mess? He wasn't ready, he wasn't mature enough. Actually, Kurt doubted there was anyone out there that could be mature to deal with this sort of situation. With the fact they weren't humans and that everything they knew about themselves were lies.
Soon as he heard noises coming from the kitchen he stood. Wiping his tears with his sleeves Kurt ran through the hallway decided to make Walter take him to Artie's in that exact moment. He needed answers, a way of protecting those he loved or at least a way out of this mess.
"Walter I think we-" Kurt felt the words dying inside of his mouth, there was something wrong, terribly wrong. Walter was pale, too pale and there were shards of his coffee mug all over the floor. "Walt is everything alright?" the android asked, approaching cautiously.
The older man looked up, an unreadable, yet unsettling expression taking over his factures. "How long?" Walter asked, voice hollow, almost inaudible. Only then Kurt noticed the brown envelope clenched between the federal agent's fingers.
"How long what?" Kurt murmured terrified of the answer.
"How long you have you been screwing my son behind my back?" Walter sneered throwing a bunch of pictures at Kurt chest.
Pictures featuring him and Blaine against a wall, mouths sealed in a kiss.
To be continued…
.
