“Hey everyone!” Kurt grinned, meeting them in the family room, giving them all a hug.
“Are you hungry?” Carole asked.
Kurt laughed. “Oh no me and the Warblers had some dinner before we all left. Sorry,” he added.
“Oh no it’s fine,” she chuckled.
“So how’s Dalton, bud?” Burt asked.
“Oh just amazing! Everyone is so nice there, and the Warblers are phenomenal! The work is a bit hard though, but nothing I can’t handle,” Kurt chuckled.
“Yea Rachel wants me to pry Warbler information out of you,” Finn joked.
“Sorry but I’m off duty and my lips are sealed,” Kurt laughed. “By the way, do any of you remember the summer when me and Finn were nine?”
They all shared a smile. “The Glee Camp?” Carole laughed. “Yes what about it?”
“Oh nothing, just I found out one of the Warblers went to it as well. We’ve been reminiscing about it,” Kurt waved a hand.
“Who Blaine?” Finn asked.
Kurt tried to keep his face from changing color. “Yes, Finn. Blaine.”
“Oh? Who’s this Blaine?” Carole perked up, interested.
“O-oh just a friend,” Kurt blushed.
“A friend? Or a friend?” Burt teased.
“Well he’s gay, so that’s a plus,” Kurt chuckled, his face still red.
“Oh good for you Kurt!”Carole grinned, giving his arm a light slap. Burt on the other hand shifted in his seat; the idea of his son dating anyone was unnerving. He always wondered how Carole was able to do it with Finn, but then again Finn was different.
But Kurt was happy, and that’s all that matter.
Kurt and Blaine spent every night for the next week at the lake, secret to everyone else. It was fun sneaking out by themselves; the high off of the chance of getting caught, of getting in trouble, was too much to stop.
It was Saturday night, the end of the first week, and Kurt and Blaine were sitting on the rocks with their legs emerged in the dark water. Blaine was still uneasy by the dark, but being with Kurt made it better.
“Kurt?” Blaine asked.
“Yes Blaine?”
“Have you ever kissed someone?” he asked. He no longer felt awkward asking these questions to Kurt, they have reached that point in their friendship.
“Nope. Wait! …Does family count?”
“No…”
“Than no. You?”
“N-no! W-well, the girls from my school chase us boys around and try to kiss us. But I get away.”
“Why?”
“B-because …I dunno I just don’t want them to. I don’t like it.”
“Kissing?”
“Them,” Blaine wiggled his feet.
“Oh. W-well how about Mercedes? Or Rachel? Or Tina? Or those other girls Quinn, Santa, and Brittany? You like them?” Kurt asked.
“I dunno. I mean they’re nice --- well, not Santa and Quinn --- and they’re my friends but I just don’t like like them.”
“Who do you like?” Kurt asked, swaying his legs.
Blaine chewed on his lip, thinking. He didn’t know. “H-how do I know if I like someone?”
“Well, you’d like being with them. And they make you all warm inside. And you think about them a lot. And when you see them you smile, without even thinking about it. Just because they always make you happy.”
The only person Blaine could think of that fit that description was Kurt. But he couldn’t like Kurt. Kurt was a boy. And boys weren’t supposed to like boys. That’s what dad said, and his uncles, and his grandpa. It wasn’t right, nor was it natural. So Blaine just lied. “Well then I don’t like anyone. What about you?”
“Fi---No one either,” Kurt almost slipped. At least, he thought he liked Finn. The boy sent butterflies to his stomach when he saw him. Unlike Blaine, Kurt was never taught to shun those who were different, that it was to love the person, not the race, religion, or gender. But he didn’t know how Blaine would react if Kurt’s crush was one of their cabin mates.
“Oh. Well I guess its better that way! Cause then we would have to bring them here with us at night and too many people would get us caught!” Blaine gave a lopsided grin. Kurt laughed quietly and nudged Blaine.
“Though I don’t want to grow up old and alone like my mom’s aunt Gertrude,” Blaine let out a nervous chuckle.
Kurt laughed. “You won’t. You can grow up old with me,” he grinned.
Blaine laughed along. “Oh thanks Kurt.”
“Anytime Blainey,” Kurt smiled. They were quiet for a bit, just a few loons calling across the lake.
“Uh uh Kurt?” Blaine stammered, looking at his friend.
“Yea?” Kurt tilted his head at him.
“I was j-just wondering, s-since we both haven’t and when we need to, f-for girls, and w-we don’t want to look like an idiot …”
“Yea?”
“Just cause w-we’ll need practice…”
“…Practice what?”
“Kuh … kuh …”
“Kissing?” Kurt finished for him.
Blaine’s face went scarlet but he nodded.
“O-oh okay …” Kurt stuttered, giving a shiver. “I g-guess it’s alright since we’re alone…”
Blaine nodded. “S-so how do we … How?”
Kurt bit his lip and puckered them, pressing his against Blaine’s. Neither boy knew what to do, so they just stayed like that for a minute or so before pulling apart.
“W-was that it?” Blaine asked, shakily.
“I-I think so … I mean, how much more can there be to it?” Kurt asked, taking a deep breath.
“Y-yea you’re right,” Blaine nodded. “It wasn’t so bad.”
“N-not at all!” Kurt gave a weak smile.
There was a creek, making the boys jump. “W-we better get back,” Kurt said, getting up and putting his shoes back on.
Blaine nodded and followed suit, putting on his shoes and walked in silence with Kurt back to the cabin. One thing was certain for the eight year old boy, Kurt had made him feel all those things, and that kiss helped proved it.
”Oh my god! You were such a loser!” Wes howled. He, Blaine, and David went to a coffee shop not too far from Wes’s house.
“Shut up!” Blaine’s face was on fire.
“-Oh maybe we sh-sh-should practice kissing Kurt~!-“ David teased, making his voice higher.
“I should have never said anything,” Blaine sunk lower in his seat.
“No no, thank goodness you did. We never would have known you were once a lowly loser like us, O’ Great Warbler,” Wes elbowed Blaine’s side. “We are humbled by your stories.” He was trying to keep a straight face and failing.
“Yea yea any more out of you and I’m going to convince the council to knock you back to back-up dancers.”
“NO!” Wes and David piped, but it was barely audible in their laughter.
“I need better friends…” Blaine sighed, rubbing his forehead.
