Blaine hit the brakes slightly as the rain picked up. The lightning flashed brightly across the sky and he felt Kurt's hand tighten around his. He looked over to see Kurt's scared face.
“It's only a thunderstorm honey. Calm down. It's okay,” Blaine said. Kurt looked at him and sighed.
“I know...but they said there might be tornado warnings. We're already in a watch.”
“And that's why we're going back to my house. You can call your dad and stay for the night. It'll be okay,” Blaine said. They had fought earlier in the evening and as Blaine was going to take him home the rain started with thunder and lightning. Blaine told Kurt he'd take him back but Kurt didn't want to risk it. Two hours was a long time in pouring rain. They had talked it out a little before he hit the road and he hoped things were okay.
Blaine pulled into his driveway and turned the car off. He looked over at Kurt who was staring out at the sky. Blaine smiled at him and reached back for the umbrella in his car. He opened his door and opened it up. He got out shutting his door and running to Kurt's side. The strong winds tried to rip the umbrella from his hands but failed at the attempts. He opened the door and held the umbrella over for him. Kurt smiled at him lovingly and got out. He shut the car door and they ran to the porch. Blaine felt the rain soaking through his clothes and his hair being freed from the gel.
Blaine jumped at the loud crack of thunder and maneuvered as quickly as possible to open the house door. Thankfully, his parents were still gone on their business trip in London. His father was expanding the business and was setting up a company over there. Anderson Pharmaceuticals was getting bigger and his father wanted to move to London permanently. That's why Kurt and him had fought earlier. Kurt was going to New York City and he might be in London.
When the door opened he let Kurt in first and shut the door locking it before the wind threw it open. He closed the umbrella setting it in the holder and and took his windbreaker off. Kurt did the same and they hung them up to dry off. Blaine went into the kitchen to make a pot of coffee. Kurt followed him and put the TV in the kitchen on.
“Tornado warnings are being sent out from Columbus to Worthington and moving east at a slow pace. However, most of them are picking up in strength. An F3 hit Worthington just a minute ago and has been touching the ground and then leaving the ground. From Dublin, Ohio to Westerville, Ohio should take cover. Go to a basement or smallest room in the house. Avoid all windows as good as you can. You're only in a watch but that could quickly change,” the man said then stopped as information was being given to him. Blaine felt his stomach drop and he looked at Kurt's face that was more pale than ever before.
“I need to call my dad...” Kurt said.
“No! It's too dangerous! Come on,” Blaine said. He ran into the living room and opened the closet near their front door. Inside was an emergency box. He pulled out the radio and put the batteries in them and turned it on.
“I hate to say it but we really need to get to the basement,” Blaine said. He looked over to see Kurt shaking. He looked at him worried out of his mind about his boyfriend. Just then, Kurt's arms wrapped around him and held him tightly.
“I just want to say I'm so sorry about before...I didn't mean a word I said...” Kurt said. Blaine put his arms around him and kissed his neck.
“I'm sorry too...we'll be fine though. Don't worry,” Blaine said taking his hand and leading him into the hallway and down to the basement stairs.
“I need to go back up for something quickly. Stay here,” Blaine said running up the stairs and into the guest bedroom. He grabbed a small blanket for Kurt. He walked back down the stairs and shut the door locking it. The eery silence in the house made him nauseated.
“Get in the corner,” Blaine said. Kurt looked at him confused and shook his head.
“No. I'm taller than you. Let me cover you,” Kurt said.
“We're not arguing about this. Go,” Blaine said. As far as he was concerned Kurt came first and he needed to make sure he was okay. Kurt put his arms around Blaine once more and kissed him gently.
“Please Blaine...let me cover you...I owe you so much,” Kurt said.
“No. There's no owing somebody. I'm doing this because I love you,” he replied.
Kurt sighed and nodded. Kurt moved behind some of his father's boxes and Blaine put the blanket over him. He grabbed a flashlight and went to turn all the lights in the house off and make sure windows were closed and locked. He was making his way back to the stairs when a bright light flooded the house and a loud crack of thunder sounded outside. He jumped where he stood and looked out one of the windows cautiously. They sky looked an angry greenish black color. He let the curtain fall back in place and went back to the basement door. His heart was beating frantically in his chest as he knew what was going to happen that night. He took a deep breath and tried to calm his nerves. He shut the basement light off and used the flashlight to get down the stairs.
He grabbed the extra batteries and the radio and crawled to Kurt. He laid over Kurt protectively and put his head on his chest. The radio was playing low as the warnings were read by the Weather Channel. He turned the flashlight off and laid in a comfortable silence with Kurt. A distant rumbling started to sound and loud cracking was sounding. Blaine turned the flashlight on and looked up at Kurt scared. Kurt's arms tightened around him. He saw tears streaking down Kurt's face and suddenly Kurt was kissing him. A few more minutes of nothing until the broadcaster grew more concerned.
“An F4 is striking...” and the radio cut out. Blaine pulled away from Kurt and picked it up and threw it agitated and scared. Kurt held him tighter as the sound got closer and closer. It sounded like a train rumbling in the distance. The cracking sound got closer and louder and Blaine feared whatever God there may be. His neighbors he'd grown up around may be dying right now and maybe they were next. Blaine heard air whooshing around and his ears started to pop. The noise was deafening and too loud to hear anything other than the tornado but he swore he heard Kurt screaming. His heart twisted in his chest as he heard the house being ripped apart. Tears were streaming down his cheeks and the fear wouldn't go away. He held the flashlight up looking into Kurt's fearful blue eyes and kissed him before his world went black.
