“Kurt...please...just say something...”
Kurt ignored him. He couldn't say anything. Everything he was, was gone now. When they pulled into the clinic Kurt got out slowly. The ambulance they used was parked to the side of the building. Jeff's hand reconnected with his and he led him into the building. Jeff led him down the hall and into the room he'd been in when Nick was here.
Cooper was standing in the center of the room. His light blue shirt was stained with blood. His hair was messed up, his cheeks were tear stained, and his eyes were completely blood shot. Cooper walked towards him but Jeff stood in front of him.
“Jeff. Move.”
“Look at yourself. Kurt doesn't need that,” Jeff said as Kurt buried his head into the crook of his neck. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. It wasn't Blaine's scent but he was still comforted by someone being with him. Cooper left the room and Jeff sat him down on the couch in the corner. A few minutes later Cooper returned and sat on his other side.
Cooper's arms wrapped around him slowly. Kurt fell into the embrace and finally cried once more into his shoulder. Cooper rocked him slowly as they sat there. Jeff's hand was on his back offering comfort but nothing would help. Not until he saw Blaine.
“Kurt?” he looked up to see Jeff standing and holding his hand out. David was in the doorway looking at him. Kurt looked at the clock. Five hours had passed since the accident. Kurt stood up and Jeff placed a hand on his lower back. Kurt pushed his arm away slowly and Jeff backed away. Cooper stood on his other side and put a hand on his arm.
“Blaine's not doing good...he's...he's in a coma, Kurt.”
Kurt felt his legs give out and expected the cold slap of the floor on his face but strong arms caught him. Kurt cried as he curled in on himself. After he seemed to calm down Cooper helped him up and they led him down a hall. Cooper walked into the room first with Kurt behind him.
“He's hanging on...but it doesn't look good. The next few hours will be critical,” David said. Kurt nodded and walked over to Blaine's bed. He sat in the chair by his bed and leaned onto the bed. He took Blaine's hand in his and ran his thumb over a callused knuckle.
“I need you...I need you to wake up. I'm dead without you. Please...”
After a few more moments of silence he spoke up once more.
“I love you, Blaine. Don't ever forget that.”
For two months Kurt sat there. Everyday he got a little bit more hopeful. The only thing that changed that at one point was that Sebastian and his friends were gone. Sebastian had skipped town and Cooper's guys couldn't find him. He got a little better as time went on, holding out for a miracle, Kurt waited for him to finally wake up. He walked down the hall to his room but Cooper was standing a feet before his room and blocking Kurt.
“Cooper, move.”
“I can't...Kurt...”
“Did he wake up?” Kurt asked just a tiny bit hopeful. And he saw Cooper's blue eyes shatter.
“No...Kurt...he didn't.”
“Then what...no...Cooper, no! He's still in that room and he's still in a coma...please...tell me he's still in there...”
“I'm sorry, Kurt...” Cooper said.
“Is this some sick joke?! Let me see him!”
“Kurt, he was taken away already. I'm...I'm so sorry,” Cooper's voice said, cracking as he spoke. Kurt shook his head in disbelief and crumbled to the floor. If it was possible, he died. He was numb, completely numb yet everything hurt. He shook as the sobs wracked his body. The excruciating pain he felt in his chest compared to nothing. He had lost the only good thing in his life and it had completely shattered him. Cooper kneeled down in front of him. He pulled Kurt near and Kurt slammed his fists on his chest repeatedly.
“No...no...no...no...”
“We're all here for you, Kurt...”
He looked to the side and saw Jeff next to him. Kurt hugged him and saw the crew standing behind him. Santana, Wes, David, and Thad. He ran a hand through his hair and laid his head back on Cooper's chest. He closed his eyes and let the silent tears fall.
The next week he stood over the place they had buried Blaine. Kurt stood with the crew and looked down at the fresh dirt. He knelt down and placed a lone red rose on the grave and folded his hands together.
“I promise...I will find that bastard and kill him. He will pay for what he did to you...whatever it takes...I'll find him,” Kurt promised. He stood back up and they started to walk away. He stopped and looked back at the site.
“I love you...nobody will ever replace you,” he whispered. And he could have sworn he saw Blaine standing off to the side but he blinked and it was gone. He shook his head and walked to the Shelby he had built with his love.
