Author's Notes: Here's chapter 5! Enjoy! Thanks for reading!!
Kurt put the sandwiches he had made and the fruit he had cut into the basket. Annabelle was grabbing the utensils and Blaine was packing the cooler. Kurt closed the basket after finishing. He picked it up and walked out to the car. On the way he grabbed another bag that he'd need later in the day. Annabelle put her stuff into her bag and they piled it all into Blaine's Aspen.
“Thanks for inviting me guys,” Annabelle said smiling at them.
“No problem. We do it every July 4th, but we just thought we'd invite you along,” Kurt said. Blaine came over to him and put his arms around Kurt's waist.
“You two are so cute together,” she said. Kurt blushed and Blaine giggled and kissed Kurt's forehead. Kurt pulled away and got into the Aspen. Blaine got into the driver's seat and started the car. It was actually a mild day and Kurt was thrilled by that. They were having a picnic dinner at the local park and then staying for the fireworks. It took them only a few minutes to get to the park. Blaine got three bottles of water from the cooler and Kurt grabbed the basket. They led her to their usual spot and set up everything.
“There's an amazing view from here so it's worth it. It gets pretty busy when night comes around,” Kurt said. She nodded and grabbed one of the sandwiches and some fruit and put it on her plate. Kurt was sitting by Blaine and got a sandwich for himself and fruit.
“When did you guys start this tradition?” she asked.
“Our first July together. It was Blaine's idea. He surprised me with it and we've kept coming since,” Kurt said. Kurt took a bite of his sandwich and they talked quietly as they ate. Kurt kept looking back towards their car for a sign of his friend but she still wasn't there. When they finished Kurt cleaned up with Blaine and took the basket back to the car and threw their garbage away. The red Volvo pulled by their Aspen and Kurt smiled. A tall brunette got out and smiled at him.
“Hi Kurt!” she said hugging him.
“Hi Tammy. Uh...Blaine this is Tammy. We work together,” Kurt said pulling away. Blaine smiled at Tammy.
“Hi! Nice to meet you,” he said. She smiled at him and then turned to Kurt.
“Well?” she asked.
“Blaine can you go to Annabelle? I need to talk to Tammy,” Kurt said. Blaine gave him a puzzling look and walked back to Annabelle without looking back. Kurt turned to her excited.
“So?”
“I brought the three of them with me. You get your pick,” Tammy said opening the back door. They were all laying across the seat and looked adorable.
“The check went through right?”
“Yep...that's why I'm here,” Tammy said laughing. Kurt looked at them and sighed. It was harder than he thought.
“So what are the genders?” Kurt asked.
“Two girls and a boy,” Tammy replied. Kurt thought long and hard and finally decided on the boy.
“I'll take the boy,” Kurt said.
“Okay. What's his name?” Tammy asked.
“Actually Blaine still doesn't know and I have one name but he might want another,” Kurt said. Tammy picked up the boy and handed him to Kurt.
“They shed a lot so be prepared. Proper daily grooming will be good to help but not that much,” Tammy said. Kurt smiled as he took the puppy in his arms.
“Well I read up on Berners and I'm prepared. Hurry and open the Aspen's door,” Kurt said. She opened the door for him and he put the dog on the back seat. He closed the door enough so the puppy wouldn't get out. He went to the back of the car and pulled out his other bag. He got the leash out and went to Tammy. She had closed the door on her Volvo and looked at him.
“Telling him now?” she asked.
“Definitely. Thanks Tammy,” he said hugging her. She left and Kurt looked over to where Blaine and Annabelle were. He checked the puppy and closed the door. He had made sure that when they got here that the two front car windows were down far enough for when he did this. He rolled the leash up and walked over casually to them. Blaine looked up a him when he got to them.
“What was that about?” Blaine asked. Kurt smiled down at him.
“Nothing really,” Kurt said. He undid the leash and held it out to Blaine. Blaine stared at it stupidly and looked up at him.
“A leash...?”
“Yes...take a guess as to why I have one,” Kurt said.
“You want to wear it?” Blaine asked smiling. Kurt glared at him and sighed.
“No you idiot,” Kurt said smiling back at him.
“Kurt...you didn't get a puppy did you?”
“You'll have to go to the car and find out,” Kurt said swinging the leash back and forth. Blaine grabbed the leash and jumped up and practically ran to the car. Kurt and Annabelle kept up with him and he turned to Kurt when he got to the Aspen.
“Open the back door,” Kurt said. Blaine moved to the door and opened it slowly. Kurt watched the smile spread across Blaine's face as he dropped the leash and grabbed the puppy. He turned to Kurt and laughed.
“What is that?” Annabelle asked.
“It's a Bernese Mountain Dog,” Kurt replied. Kurt looked back at Blaine who was grinning ear to ear with the puppy.
“Do he have a name?” Blaine asked.
“Nope. I was going to leave it up to you but I had one in mind,” Kurt said.
“What is it?” Blaine asked.
“Samson. Sam or Sammy for short,” Kurt said.
“I like it. Samson is perfect!” Blaine said. He kissed the top of the puppy's head. The puppy kept licking his face and yipping. Kurt laughed and got the dropped leash and hooked it onto the collar. Blaine put him down and took the leash and hugged Kurt tightly. Kurt giggled and hugged him back.
“I'm glad you love it,” Kurt said. Blaine kissed him and smiled at him.
“Thank you so much,” Blaine said. Kurt nodded and got the treats that were in the bag he brought as well.
“Let's go back and enjoy the rest of the night,” Kurt said. They went back to their spot. The puppy was a little quieter with being in a new place and with new people but Blaine enjoyed him anyway. After a while Blaine laid down and Samson laid on his lap. Kurt laid down and put his head on Blaine's chest.
“Kurt that was so sweet of you,” Annabelle said.
“Well he's been begging for one and Tammy had puppies for sale so I got one,” Kurt said.
“Thank you so much,” Blaine said. Kurt smiled and kissed the corner of his mouth.
“He's actually three months old today,” Kurt said reaching down to scratch behind his ears. At that moment the fireworks started going off and Samson jumped. Blaine laughed and reached his hand down to the trembling puppy.
“Sorry bud...forgot you aren't used to them,” Blaine said sitting up. Kurt got off of him and sat up. Blaine took Samson in his arms and kissed him. Kurt smiled at the two and couldn't help but think ahead a few years. Maybe this would be them with a kid one day. He hoped it would be. Annabelle was watching the fireworks smiling. Kurt sighed content and leaned onto Blaine and put his arm around his waist watching the fireworks go off.
End Notes: So? What did you think? I based Samson off my Aunt and Uncles Bernese Mountain Dog named Samson. He's amazing!
