2 Years Later

Kurt walked out of the old stone building into the muggy Florida weather. He made his way over to his car and got in quickly. He started it up and put the air conditioner on and sat back. He desperately wanted to go out tonight but Caden would be expecting him home soon. If he wasn't...he'd have to answer why. He sent him a text saying he was on his way home. Caden replied and Kurt set off for home.

Arriving home, he parked in the garage and walked into the house. He heard the TV in the living room and walked in to see Caden on the couch. He had a pair of his shorts on but no shirt. Kurt couldn't complain though. Caden took very good care of himself and was good eye candy. He'd give him that much.

“You're late.”

“By five minutes, Cade. I had to put last minute touches on the one manuscript I was going through and submit it,” Kurt said as he walked over to the couch. Caden's hand shot out and grabbed his wrist. Kurt flinched but did his best to cover the grimace on his face. Caden's hard green eyes held his gray ones.

“You didn't even let me know. I told you to let me know if you'll be late.”

“Cade...five minutes isn't a big deal,” Kurt replied tensely. The grip on his wrist tightened and Kurt couldn't help but try to pull away. Caden stood up, towering over him, and glared down at him.

“Don't get cocky.”

“Don't be an ass all the time.”

Thwap!

Kurt's hand flew to his stinging cheek. He looked up at the man before him and backed away from him. Caden moved closer to him looking remorseful. He always did, after he did this, and Kurt always fell for it and forgave him. He pushed past Caden towards their bedroom and closed the door. He looked around the bland room and slowly walked to the bed. Falling down on it he looked at the ceiling wondering how his life had come to this.

When he had left Blaine, he had packed up his car and driven the hours down to Florida. He stayed in a hotel for a night and went to his employer the next day. He was guaranteed the job and was to immediately start. Eventually, he had been able to find a good house and got the loan and moved in. It was a few weeks after that when he met Caden.

He was charming. He had dirty blonde, almost brown hair and vivid green eyes. He had flirted with Kurt for the longest time and kept asking him out. Kurt kept telling him he had somebody and to leave him alone but Caden wouldn't take no for an answer. After weeks of pestering Kurt finally gave in and agreed to one date.

It ended up turning into two, then three, then four, and before he knew it they were officially a couple. He never wanted more. He hadn't lied when he said he still had somebody but that somebody had never made a move. Kurt had all but given up and moved on in a way. He'll never forget Blaine. He loved him so much but he knew it was too good to be true. Blaine deserved to be happy and deserved the future he was destined to have. Becoming a great lawyer and being someone Kurt would always be proud of. Caden kept him grounded from seeing reason. That there was somebody good out there for him and he'd get his happy ending. This was his ending.

He sat up slowly and sighed. He ran a hand through his hair and jumped at the knock on the door.

“Kurt? Babe, please...would you open the door?”

Kurt got up and walked to the door sluggishly. He opened it, revealing the man he had come to call his boyfriend. He looked at him upset. Kurt knew the play all to well and gave in and forgave him. There was never a sorry from either one of them and it didn't bother him. He knew they would get over it, until the next time it happened.

Kurt nodded and Caden's arms wrapped around him. A soft kiss was placed on his cheek where he had been hit.

“I love you.”

“I love you, too, Caden...”

Soft lips pressed to his own and Kurt kissed him back. Caden's hands moved down his body to the back pockets of his jeans. Caden moved him back towards the bed and they fell down together. Kurt closed his eyes, hoping to forget the man on top of him, but no matter what he did the face never went away. The face of a man he loved before never appeared. Only the pain, heartache, and loss appeared and he gave in to Caden's touches and let him have his way.

End Notes: I'm sorry for that ending...this is just the beginning of Kurt and Caden...But! The next chapter brings back a familiar face!
