Kurt put the paper down and sighed. He took a sip of his coffee as the door bell rang. He rolled his eyes and walked over. He opened the door to see three frantic women, all still in pajamas. He walked out onto the porch and looked at the van.
“Somebody is moving in,” Rachel said.
“Really? I couldn't tell,” Santana said. It had been a week since Mercedes left. She had told them right before she left that the house had sold and somebody would be moving in soon. No other car had pulled in yet and they were wondering who would move in.
“I hope it's somebody who will actually be a good neighbor,” Rachel said.
“I hope they like kids,” Quinn said, sighing.
“I hope they're hot,” Santana said smiling.
“I hope they're all three of those,” Kurt said lastly.
“You hope he's gay. Admit it!” Santana said.
“It wouldn't hurt but come one, Santana. The chances are slim that it's a he. That house is for a family, not one person,” Kurt said. They heard the roar of an engine and saw a red Nissan pull into the drive way at the house. A man got out of the car and walked up to the front of the house. Kurt couldn't really see him but he knew the girls would be all over that.
“Or it is,” Kurt said rolling his eyes. The girls left and he walked back into his house. Abigail was sitting on the steps waiting for him. He walked over to the steps and sat down by her.
“Daddy, what did Aunt Tana mean?”
“About?” Kurt asked.
“You hoping he's gay.”
“Aww, baby, that's just Aunt Tana joking around with me. She just wants to see me happy,” Kurt said.
“Like Dad?” she asked. Kurt looked down at the floor and closed his eyes. He hated hearing about his ex, especially from his daughter.
“Yeah, sweet heart. Like Dad,” Kurt said. He stood up and picked her up in his arms. He kissed her cheek and smiled.
“I love you, Daddy,” Abigail said.
“I love you too, baby doll,” he replied. He sat her down on a stool at the island in the kitchen and moved to the cupboards.
“What would you like for breakfast?” he asked.
“Cereal!” she said. Kurt smiled and got the Fruit Loops from the cabinet and poured her a small bowl. He filled it with the milk and gave it to her. He sat down and ate from the box.
“Dad wanted me to go with him and Marcus today to the park!” she said.
“That's good,” Kurt said. Andrew made sure she told Kurt what they were doing every weekend. The last weekend Andrew had her he had bought her diamond earrings. Kurt wasn't pleased about it even though he meant well. He got up and put the cereal away, unable to stomach anymore. He took Abigail upstairs to get ready. He had her put on the dress Kurt had gotten her just the other day. It had cost a lot but Kurt would spend whatever on his baby. He also had her put in her first set of earrings. The one's Kurt had bought her after he got her ears pierced.
“You look amazing,” Kurt said kissing her head. She smiled and got her little backpack together. He saw her off and closed up his house and walked over to Quinn's. Her kids were all playing outside with their dog. Kurt laughed and said hi to the kids and walked up to Quinn.
“Hey,” she said smiling.
“Hi. Did you go over yet?” Kurt asked.
“Nope. Santana and Rachel want to go over as a group.”
“No. No way in hell.”
“What's wrong, Kurt?” she asked.
“I'm not really in the mood to meet a new neighbor who might not like me.”
“Oh come on. That was once and the lady moved away. Don't worry about it,” Quinn said.
“I guess...”
“What's wrong? Andrew do something?”
“Abigail heard our talk and she asked about what Santana said. I said she just wants to see me happy and Abigail said 'like dad?'.”
“Kurt, I'm sorry, honey. Andrew needs to stop using Abigail. He knows she's your weakness and he can use her against you,” Quinn said.
“Don't remind me,” Kurt replied.
“Uncle Kurt! Can we come over and play with Abigail?” Tiffany, Quinn's youngest daughter at age five, asked.
“She's actually gone this weekend. You can come over Sunday evening though and you can play,” Kurt said. She beamed her Quinn smile at him and went back to playing with her brothers. Kurt would love more kids but Abigail was good enough for him.
“Why don't you join me to the spa tomorrow? You could use a little relaxer,” Quinn said.
“I'd love to!” Kurt replied smiling. He saw the guy a little better at Quinn's house. He was a little shorter than Kurt, not by much. He had short, black, curly hair and a business suit on.
“I love guys in uniforms,” Quinn said. Kurt rolled his eyes and they went inside her house to talk some more. Kurt couldn't wait to meet the new guy but deep down he knew he shouldn't expect much.
