“I'm so proud of you,” Sebastian said. Blaine smiled shyly and shook his head.
“For what? I only passed all of my finals.”
“Which I'm proud of you for doing. You're going to be an amazing lawyer one day,” Sebastian said. Blaine smiled and kissed him again.
“We'll be the best team out there. You know my dad is prepared to fund us both to open our own law firm.”
“I know...so is my dad.”
“That's good,” Blaine replied. Sebastian pulled him down into his lap and laid down. Blaine rested his head on his chest and listened to the steady beating of his heart. Sebastian's hand was running through Blaine's curls. When he woke up Sebastian was gone and he got up to go into the kitchen.
“No take out tonight?”
“Nope. Called a cab. We're going out to eat,” Sebastian said. Blaine smiled and went to change. Sebastian followed in behind him and got changed into nicer clothes. They went outside and waited for the cab. The spring air was a little cool but it had been a nice day. When the cab pulled up Sebastian opened the door for him. They told the driver where to go and held hands in the back seat. Blaine leaned his head on Sebastian's shoulder and kissed his neck and up to his jaw. Sebastian chuckled and turned his head and kissed Blaine. Just then a sickening crunching sound echoed throughout the car and Blaine felt sharp pain in his side and then blackness enveloped him. The last thing he remembered were arms enveloping him and holding him.
Blaine opened his eyes and looked around confused. Next to him sat his mother crying. He moved his hand slowly to take hers in his hand and she looked at him surprised but happy.
“John! Get a doctor!” she said. Blaine looked over to see his father leave the room for a nurse.
“What happened?” he asked quietly.
“You and Seb were in a bad car accident...”
“Is he okay?”
“Don't worry about him right now...we need to make sure you're okay,” his mom's honey smooth voice said.
“Don't...tell me to not...worry. He's my...”
“Please Blaine...stop. I'll tell you once the doctor checks you over,” she said squeezing his hand. He sighed and waited as the doctor completed an exam. When she left he turned to his mother.
“Well?”
“Blaine...promise me you'll listen and won't freak out?”
“I can't promise that...”
“Sebastian is still in a coma. He only has a ten percent chance of survival...”
Blaine might as well have been dead too by this point. He closed his eyes and let the tears break lose. The memory of the car accident came back into his mind and he remembered the strong arms wrap around him one last time. That was the one thing he'd hold onto forever. Sebastian may never come back to him? There was no life without his other half...he pushed his mom away feebly and turned away from her.
After a few days of recovering Blaine was allowed to leave. His parents wanted him home but he wanted to see Sebastian. His mom walked with him and led him to the private room that held his boyfriend. Blaine didn't think it'd look this bad. Sebastian had tubes connected to his body all over and the beeping of the heart monitor would forever be engraved in his memory. Sebastian's head was wrapped up in bandages and his whole left leg was in a cast. Blaine had gotten off with only a few injuries including broken ribs and a concussion. He moved closer and sat on the chair by his bed.
“Mom? Can I please have a few minutes?”
“Sure dear...I'll go grab a coffee for you and I and we'll leave.”
Blaine watched to make sure she left and then turned back to the person he loved more than anything. He walked over to the chair by his bed and he sat down. He grabbed Sebastian's hand and squeezed it. He and brought it to his lips and placed a gentle kiss to his knuckles.
“I can't go on without you...” he said. He allowed himself to finally cry for the man before him. He kept his hand near his face and pressed kisses along the calloused hands.
“I love you...so much...” he said as his heart broke more and more. He pressed one last kiss to his hand and set it down. He moved carefully so as not to cause a flare of pain in his ribs and moved to kiss Sebastian's cheek. When he did he moved back slowly and watched his life end. The heart monitor flat lined and nurses came running in. One ushered him out and into the hallway closing him off from the room.
“Blaine!”
He turned to see his mother running to him. He fell down to the ground crying as the yelling, the loud, annoying, life ending noise sounded throughout the hallway. His mother's arms were instantly around him and cradling him.
“He's gone...he's gone...” he repeated over and over again.
“I'm sorry Mrs. Anderson...he's not coming back...”
“Okay...okay...come on Blaine...you need to go home.”
Blaine refused and tried to go back to his love but the pain in his ribs stopped him and he doubled over in pain. The nurse grabbed him along with his mom. They moved him to a chair while the nurse went to get him pills. He took them and looked into the room carefully. The one nurse was removing all of the tubes from Sebastian. He felt his stomach twist and he turned his head and emptied his stomach onto the floor.
“Blaine!” he heard his mom yell. When he was done he was led outside to get some fresh air. His mom took him home shortly after. He walked into the apartment scared of what he'd see. The photos of them adorned the walls and tables. Blaine walked into their bedroom and saw a little black box sitting on the bed. A note was placed under it. Sebastian's writing graced the paper and Blaine felt his heart shatter into more pieces.
“Dear Blaine, this note is only for if something should interfere with my plans. I wanted to give this to you no matter what happens to us. If it works out, break up, or even death. I will make it a night to remember when you get this ring though. I promise I will always love you and you'll always be my number one. The next paper to read will be in the box...so go ahead and open it.”
Blaine set the note down and picked up the box. Out fell a paper and he picked it up and opened it up.
“I guess this engagement won't be taking place...but please...marry me anyway? Be mine forever? Or just wear the ring but remember it's my gift to you.”
Blaine set the note down and looked at the ring. It was platinum band with three stones in the band. They were all emeralds. He pulled the ring out and on the inside of the band “One and Only” was engraved. He sat on the bed and smiled sadly. He slipped the ring onto his finger and looked down at it.
“I'll never get rid of it...I'll never move on...I'll never love another. I promise.”
The funeral came and went. The days came and went. The months came and went. Blaine wasn't any better though. The only thing he lived for was the ring he saw every morning and the bottle of Sebastian's cologne he kept. He'd actually spray one of Sebastian's pillows and hold it until he fell asleep. Blaine had dropped out of school and decided not to go back. There was no point if Sebastian wasn't around. He turned to drinking whenever the memories invaded his mind which was everyday.
When his mom finally intervened they fought. He packed what he wanted and moved to a small apartment that was so disgusting it wasn't even funny. It was cheap though and he didn't have a job or any income. He decided he'd look around for a job but he just never had the motivation.
An intervention was scheduled for him though and when he went home everybody he knew, who knew how he was doing, was there. They gave him the same old speech. How Sebastian wouldn't like to see him this way and how he needed to move on. Somebody signed him up for AA meetings even though he insisted he didn't need them. But when everything about who he now was was brought out into the light he realized he needed help. He broke down and they agreed to help him through. He took the ring off and put it on a chain and wore it that way. It was hidden from sight but he could feel the metal against his skin.
After two months of picking up where he left off he opted to stay out of school. It'd be too tough to face people day to day who knew him and Sebastian. He also got a job at a coffee shop and made a decent amount there. When they offered him the raise to play every Friday evening he jumped on the offer and got his music out. He wrote more...most of the songs about his life with Sebastian and his life after the accident but they were all decent and people loved them. One day, he'd live out his true dream...singing on a stage for hundreds of people and letting them hear his music and his story of how you can overcome everything and your dreams will come true.
