“They came back hoping to rekindle what they had.”
“Cooper!”
The sky blue eyes of his older brother turned to him and a smile spread across his face. The brother's lunged at each other and held on tightly. Blaine had always missed Cooper. He had been in the limelight his whole life and had picked up acting, like their father, and singing, like their mother.
“Man, have you grown. Not much but some,” Cooper said smiling. Blaine punched him playfully and they hugged once more. Blaine realized he was crying and wiped a tear off his cheek. He hadn't seen Cooper since his attack just two years ago. He had been the only one to show up with his dad. Their mom made excuse after excuse and it hurt Blaine. That was when he said he was done with her and her games.
“How's Hollywood?” Blaine asked.
“Great! I have wonderful news!” Cooper said excitedly.
“Spill!”
“I landed a role for a TV show. Recurring character but I got it!”
“That's great! Congratulations, Cooper!”
“Thank you...when are you moving out with me?”
“I don't know...” Blaine said.
“Consider it. I don't live near our parents but you could still see Dad.”
“Cooper,” their grandmother interrupted, “Why don't we let that go for now and just enjoy each others company. I can't imagine Blaine leaving right now. He's made his home here for years.”
“I know...I just want him around more. I won't be able to visit as much. With the album promotion and this show. I just want him around,” Cooper replied.
“Well, maybe with the summer around the corner he can visit,” she suggested. Blaine looked at Cooper who smiled and nodded. When the doorbell rang Blaine jumped up to get it and ran to open the door. Kurt stood outside dressed in a simple outfit for the night and Blaine let him in.
“My brother is here! I can't wait for you to meet him!” Blaine said taking his hand.
“I get to finally meet your mysterious brother,” Kurt replied and kissed him gently.
“Yes, you do! You're going to love him!”
Blaine and him walked into the kitchen, Cooper leaning against the counter. Their grandmother was washing dishes and their grandfather had moved to his study. Cooper looked at their hands intrigued and looked up at Kurt.
“Cooper, this is my boyfriend, Kurt. Kurt, my big brother,” Blaine said. Kurt's hands flew to his face and he had a huge grin across his face.
“Cooper Anderson!” Kurt said.
“The one and only,” Cooper replied.
“You are amazing and so good looking! I should have known you two were brothers!” Kurt said turning to Blaine. Blaine just shrugged as Kurt shook Cooper's hand. He hoped they got along, if it anybodies opinion mattered it was Cooper's.
“Why don't we go out for a while?” Cooper asked.
“Sure,” Blaine said.
“Any ideas?” Kurt asked.
“Ice cream. I used to always take Blaine for ice cream when I was around.”
“It's a little thing we usually do,” Blaine said. They got into Blaine's car and drove down the street. Blaine pulled into their usual shop and they got out. Cooper called their dad to join them without Paloma tagging along. Garret had agreed to show up alone to spend time with his sons.
As they sat there with their ice cream making idle talk, Blaine's dad walked in. He stood up and his father hugged him tightly as they stood there. Blaine cried into his shoulder as his father rubbed his back comfortingly. Him and his father had always talked and he adored his dad. His mother was the one who continuously pushed him away.
“Dad, this is Kurt Hummel, my boyfriend,” Blaine said. Garret held his hand out to Kurt as they said hi.
“It's nice to meet you, Kurt. I've heard so much about you. Thank you for being here for my son. I wish I could do more...but...I don't know what he's told you,” his dad said. They all sat down and Blaine looked at him.
“He knows pretty much everything,” Blaine said.
“Okay. I want my son with me out in California...Paloma was never the best mother to him. Ten years after Cooper, Blaine came along. I adored him but his mother didn't want him. She focused on her career and Cooper. Nobody even found out about the pregnancy. We moved to Ohio and she had him. My parents have been raising him since. I always made sure to see him as much as I could but it was hard.”
“Blaine told me everything. I don't understand how a mother could push her own child away. My mom died when I was young. I miss her like crazy...” Kurt said.
“Paloma was always working with Cooper, she'd never miss a chance. I don't know why she didn't care for Blaine as much.”
“My dad even named me...that's how much she didn't care. She said she wanted nothing to do with me,” Blaine said.
“I understand why you push her away though. She sounds awful.”
The bell of the store rang and they heard a commotion. Paloma was walking in with sunglasses on and walked to their table. Once there she hugged Cooper and kissed his cheek and then hugged her husband. She sat next to Garret and looked at Blaine, ignoring Kurt.
“Blaine, please, turn away from the windows.”
“Why? So nobody finds out you have another child?”
“Enough. They don't need to hear anything.”
“Paloma...enough is enough. Why don't we just come out with him?” Garret said.
“Garret...nobody needs to know about him. It is our life and our choice and we decide what we want to do with Blaine.”
“I'm right here...why do you do this? Why can't I be a part of this 'family'?” Blaine said standing up irritated by his mother's behavior. He was old enough to make his own decisions. Maybe he would come clean.
“If you would drop this act then maybe you would be!” she said pointing at Kurt. Blaine glared at her with all the hate he could.
“Nobody! Nobody, talks to Kurt like that. If you don't want him around then I won't be around!” Blaine said and stormed off. Kurt got up and followed him out. People took photos of them but Kurt ignored them and took Blaine's hand. In Blaine's car he finally broke down. He turned to Kurt and sighed.
“What did I ever do wrong? I did my best to make her happy and she just...she just hates me!” Blaine said.
“I know, babe. Things will be okay though. Look at your dad and Cooper. They love you and they seem to like me,” Kurt said.
“They love you...” Blaine said reaching over for his hand. Their fingers twined together as they just sat there. Cooper came out soon after and walked over to their car and got in the back.
“Let's go...mom is pissed and the paps already got pictures of us. She'll need to explain this,” Cooper said.
“Good,” Blaine replied as he pulled out of the lot.
“I'm telling the club about her. They need to know how horrible she is.”
“I'll be by your side,” Kurt said.
