Kurt sat beside Cooper's bedside waiting for him to wake up. He was holding his hand tightly and running his thumb over his knuckles. All he knew was Cooper had hit his head pretty hard and would be in and out for a while. He wanted to see Cooper awake and alive and safe. He ran his hands through his hair for the millionth time that night. Blaine came in with two cups and handed him one.
“Thanks,” Kurt said quietly.
“It's going to be okay,” Blaine said putting a hand on his shoulder.
“I think I know what I'm doing to him...this is hurting so much and I'm hurting him worse than this,” Kurt said. Blaine looked at him sympathetically.
“I'm sorry,” Blaine said. Kurt's phone rang and he answered it quickly.
“Dad?” he asked.
“Yeah...look I went through Cooper's car and found that his Brake Master Cylinder was damaged...his brakes failed pretty much...” Burt said. Kurt looked up at Blaine shocked. He wouldn't Kurt thought.
“Thank you dad...I'll talk to you tomorrow,” Kurt said. He hung up his phone and set it by Cooper. He stood up slowly and contemplated throwing his coffee on Blaine. Shakily, he set it down on the side table.
“Get out...” Kurt said. Blaine looked at him confused.
“What?”
“Get the hell out,” Kurt said through gritted teeth.
“Why? He's my brother,” Blaine said.
“You tried to kill him!” Kurt said.
“What are you talking about?”
“His brakes failed. You told me you could cut the lines but I wouldn't allow it and you were right, I wouldn't. So what did you do? You damaged a component of the brakes and they failed,” Kurt said.
“Kurt! I wouldn't do that! I was joking! I could never do that to my brother...” Blaine said. Kurt looked at him unconvinced.
“You want me so bad you would kill your own brother?” Kurt asked getting angry.
“No! I could never do that to him...or you! Kurt I care for you too much to do that!” Blaine said. Kurt glared at him and then looked away closing his eyes.
“Just go away...” Kurt said.
“Kurt, please! I didn't do this,” Blaine said walking over to him putting his hands on his shoulders. Kurt moved away from him and looked at him through blurry eyes.
“Get out!” he said. Blaine looked at him sadly. Those hazel orbs that always drew him in held so much pain it was unbearable to look at. Kurt looked away as he walked out of the room slowly. Kurt sat back down by Cooper and laid his head on the bed. He laid like that for a few more minutes until he fell asleep.
Kurt woke up slowly to a hand brushing his forehead. He looked up at the face of Cooper. He was smiling lightly down at him and Kurt reached for his hand and squeezed it.
“Cooper?” he said quietly.
“Hi...” Cooper said. Kurt smiled and felt the tears well up in his eyes, a nice soft blue, and let them overflow. Cooper was back and he was so thankful.
“What happened with your car?” Kurt asked.
“I don't know. I was fine and then all of a sudden I couldn't brake...I took it down the embankment and crashed...” Cooper said.
“I'm so sorry,” Kurt said. He kissed Cooper's knuckles and looked at him sadly. He didn't know what was going to happen to Cooper after that accident and was just happy he was awake. Kurt got on the bed and laid by him gently. After a few hours alone, with the occasional nurse, Blaine walked into the room. He looked like a mess and a part of Kurt felt bad but the other hated him right now.
“How are you feeling?” Blaine asked.
“I'm fine...are you okay?” Cooper asked his brother. Blaine looked at him then Kurt and nodded slowly.
“I'll be okay...I was just worried about you...and Kurt. He was freaking out for a while,” Blaine said. Kurt looked down and sighed.
“Thank you for being there for him Blaine. It means a lot,” Cooper said.
“Of course...” Blaine said.
“Something else is bothering you...what happened?” Cooper asked.
“Um...this boy I like at school told me he doesn't want me...apparently I did something that I know I didn't do,” Blaine said quietly.
“What is he accusing you of?” Cooper asked.
“I'd rather not talk about him anymore Coop. I just want to forget it,” Blaine said. Cooper smiled at him sadly.
“I'm sorry bud,” Cooper said. Kurt swallowed nervously and glanced at Blaine. He looked so broken and Kurt bit his lip. Maybe he didn't have anything to do with it...maybe it was a freak accident.
“Why don't you go home?” Cooper asked Blaine. Before Kurt thought about it he opened his mouth talking to Cooper.
“He's too tired Cooper...let me take him back to my place and let him crash. He needs somebody around obviously. I mean look at him...I just want to make sure he's okay,” Kurt said. Cooper looked at him uncertain and then sighed.
“Okay...I can get some sleep and you can too,” Cooper said kissing his cheek lightly.
“Don't worry about us either. Get some sleep and I'll be here tomorrow morning,” Kurt said smiling. He kissed Cooper's lips lightly and then got up. He threw his cold coffee away and walked out waving back at Cooper and blowing him a kiss. Blaine walked out past him. When they got to Kurt's car Blaine got in swiftly. Kurt got into the driver's side and started the car.
“When we get to your house I'm getting my car and leaving,” Blaine said. Kurt looked over at him and then started the drive to his house. The ride was silent until Kurt was ready to burst.
“Can I at least keep the job?” Blaine asked.
“I don't know...do you plan on trying to kill any other people?” Kurt asked. Blaine scoffed and looked at him ticked off.
“I didn't do it Kurt! And until you realize that then I won't be staying with you...at all. I'm grabbing my car and getting the hell out of there,” Blaine said. Kurt felt the words pierce his heart. This wasn't how things were supposed to end between them...or end at all.
Kurt sighed and pulled into his drive way and waited for Blaine to leave. He stayed in his car as Blaine got his car and started to leave. Kurt's hands were still wrapped tightly around the steering wheel. He laid his head on his hands and let the tears stream down his cheeks. He noticed Blaine's car stop by his but then kept going. Somehow, Kurt managed to get into his house and then into his bed. He spent the night crying. Crying for Cooper. Crying for Blaine. Crying for no reason but for the worst pain he ever felt in his chest.
