“Where’s Erica?” Kurt asked through clenched teeth.

“I'm so sorry Kurt…” Wes said. Kurt looked down at Blaine feeling a part of him shatter. Whether it was through his bond with Blaine or his own heart he didn’t know. Erica was gone…

He held onto Blaine tighter fearing if he let him go he might lose him. Blaine only clung to him tighter shaking horribly as he cried.

“No…this is some sort of trick…she can’t be de-gone!” Kurt hissed. Cooper knelt down by him and put a hand on his shoulder, his blue eyes troubled.

“I saw her Kurt…I’m really sorry.”

“What happened?” Kurt asked, afraid of the answer.

“She was staked…it was a direct hit,” Cooper replied. Kurt pressed his nose into Blaine’s curls and finally let his own tears start to fall. They sat there for a while just holding onto each other as tight as they could. Eventually, Kurt stood up pulling Blaine with him and walked him to the car. Blaine was barely cooperating but Kurt could care less right now. He just wanted to get him to their new house.

He got Blaine into the back seat of the car, laying him down. Blaine curled up and stared at the seat in front of him. Kurt saw his eyes lose their shine and he bit his lower lip hoping to make it home without breaking. He walked over to the driver's side but was stopped when he ran into somebody.

“Cooper...go. We're going to our house,” Kurt said agitated.

“I'm driving you home. Blaine really just needs you right now,” Cooper replied holding his hand out. Kurt looked into the back seat of his car where Blaine still laid unmoving. He sighed and gave Cooper the keys. He opened the back door and scooted in. He lifted Blaine's head and laid it in his lap, mindlessly playing with his curls.

The twenty minute drive felt like it took a lifetime when they finally pulled into the driveway. Him and Blaine had only been back a few months ago when it was finished. Erica was fine back then, she was doing wonderfully! She had become a Governing Vampire, telling them the news when they had visited quickly. Cooper opened Kurt's door and Kurt scooted out holding onto Blaine.

Blaine was still lifeless as Kurt picked him up and they walked to the house. Cooper opened the door and let him in first. Kurt walked up the stairs kissing Blaine's forehead and walked into their bedroom. He laid Blaine down on the bed and ran a hand through his curls. He kissed his cheek and walked out into the hallway.

“Kurt...?”

“I don't know if he's okay or if he's going to be...Erica was everything to him...” Kurt replied.

“You're everything to him also. He'll come back...it might just take some time,” Cooper replied. Kurt let out a nasty sounding cough and sob and Cooper hugged him tightly. He held onto Cooper tightly as he cried.

“I'm going to go and see what I can find out. You go be with him right now. I'll call you if I find out anything,” Cooper said. Kurt nodded and pulled away from him.

“Thank you,” Kurt said through some quiet hiccups.

“No, thank you. If he didn't have you I don't think he'd be here with us right now,” Cooper said. Kurt looked up stunned but he was gone already. The weight of it all sunk in. Blaine wouldn't do that to himself would he? Yes, Erica meant a lot to them but would he go that far?

Kurt sighed and ran a hand through his hair and over his face to get rid of the tears. He walked into the large bedroom, a light tan paint on the walls and a darker carpeting on the floor. He climbed onto the bed and laid himself next to Blaine and pulling him close. Blaine still didn't attempt to move as Kurt moved him around to a comfortable position.

“Please Blaine...don't shut us out,” he whispered against the curls he had his face buried in. He drank in Blaine's scent and closed his eyes. A quiet sob brought him out of his thoughts. Suddenly, Blaine was once more clinging to his shirt tightly and crying into his chest. The loud, broken sobs was tearing Kurt to pieces. The pain from Blaine in their bond was enough to already start breaking him. He needed to be strong for Blaine though. He had to be.

After a few minutes of the loud sobs from Blaine the tiny hiccups started. Kurt closed his eyes willing Blaine to fall asleep. He had never seen Blaine like this and it scared him to his core. Eventually, the sobs and hiccups died and he looked down to see Blaine's eyes closed. He looked down and saw Blaine's chest rising and falling in small breaths, something he rarely did. Kurt pulled him closer and scooted down more to lay face to face. He kept pressing small kisses to Blaine's face happy that he was finally asleep but worried about what Cooper might find.

As if on cue his phone started buzzing in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw Cooper's name and picture on his screen. He hit the answer button and put it to his ear.

“Kurt-”

“Shh...he's asleep,” Kurt said.

“Oh...well anyway...Erica wasn't the only one staked. Another Governing Vampire was staked. They were together last night somebody said. It's somebody within Dalton that did it...or wouldn't be noticed coming in or out,” Cooper replied.

“Is there anybody that had it out for either of them?”

“Oh...there's a lot of people who have it out for them...and us.”

“Us?”

“I mean us as in us Governors. A lot of people don't like the rulings we make. The other guy could have done something and it angered somebody and they went after him. And unfortunately, Erica was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

“I don't get it...Erica is older than Blaine and you and she's so skilled...how could she have been killed?” Kurt said, breaking on killed.

“We don't know...We can't get anything from the stakes at all. All of the Governors here are being called to the main hall.”

“Meaning?”

“I need to go to Columbus for a few days maybe longer. If something else turns up we'll need to go to the Council in Colorado.”

“Cooper...he needs both of us right now...”

“I know, Kurt! I can't be there though. We're already on our way down. They're not taking any chances. All of us are going to the main hall and meeting. If this isn't an isolated incident I could be on lock down for a while,” Cooper replied.

“Just...do what you can to be here for him. I may be his mate but I don't know if I'm enough...” Kurt said scared.

“Kurt...you're enough. You're his other half. You're his world. You'll be enough. Like I said...it might take some time though for him to be willing to talk.”

“I'll do what I can for him,” Kurt said and hung up. He threw his phone to the floor and got up slowly. He pulled the covers down and crawled back into the bed and pulled them over him and Blaine.

“I promise we'll get through this. I'll do whatever it takes to make sure you're okay and smile again,” Kurt said as he kissed Blaine a few more times and eventually let himself succumb to sleep.
