The next week Kurt was on his way to Rachel's office to talk to her. He'd made his decision on the move and really needed to talk to her. As he approached her office, just down the hall from his, he saw Nick by his door. Nick turned to him and smiled at him. Kurt smiled back and walked up to him.
“Hi! I was hoping we could...go out for lunch today?”
“It's only seven in the morning...I don't know if I'm going to be here or gone home...”
“Oh...let me know? I'd like to go out with you again,” Nick replied. Kurt nodded and turned around as heels clacked behind him. He turned to see Rachel. A huge smile was on her face and she stopped in front of him.
“What?” he asked.
“Blaine's performing in the square! Come on!” she said. Kurt looked back at Nick who looked uncomfortable and unhappy.
“I'm sorry...I'll make sure we can meet up for lunch.”
Nick nodded and quickly left. Kurt turned to glare at Rachel for ruining their time together. She grabbed his arm and started to drag him away.
“Rachel! No! I'm not going to see him.”
“Oh, yes you are! Let's go!”
Kurt pulled his arm free and followed her outside. They made their way towards the square and Kurt couldn't see him clearly but he was on the big screens. He was singing “Forever” and had the crowd involved. When that ended he started to perform one of his older songs, one Kurt wrote with him. Kurt didn't want to stay anymore. He started crying as he thought about their past. He remembered standing to the side of the stage as Blaine performed for New Years.
“Kurt?”
“I can't believe you would bring me here...”
“I thought you'd want to see him.”
“Why would I want to see him?!”
“You're still in love with him...you want him back.”
“But it won't happen! He's moved on and I need to also.”
With that, Kurt turned on his heel and walked away from the area. He went back to work only to inform Quinn of his decision, he'd be going to California, and when he did she hugged him tightly.
“I can't wait! Thank you for coming with us,” she said.
“I hope it's worth it...” Kurt replied.
“It will be. I'm sorry about Rachel...she really thinks you two will get back together...”
“And it's not happening...”
“I'm sorry, Kurt. But she's right...you do love him still and we only want the best for you.”
“Right now, finally moving from here is best.”
“Don't worry. It will be. And then, you can find someone who will make your world so much better,” she said wiggling her eyebrows.
“I had him Quinn...and he left. Nobody will be able to replace him.”
He walked away from her and down to his office. He closed the door and locked it hoping to be left alone. He went on his laptop and pulled up the livestream of Blaine's interview and performance. He was singing another song, one from this new album, and looked amazing. Kurt could tell he wasn't himself but he was definitely happy performing. His hair had gotten longer though and Kurt liked it. He finished the song and the two hosts of the morning show joined him on the stage.
Kurt closed the page out and looked for his CD online. It still had a few weeks until release but he pre-ordered one. He hoped he wasn't making a bad decision in doing so. A knock sounded on his door and he got up to open it. Rachel was standing outside with Quinn behind her. Rachel looked upset and was wringing her hands together.
“I'm sorry about this morning, Kurt. I should have known better and shouldn't have made you go...I'm glad to hear you're coming to Cali with us though! I can't wait,” she said, her mood changing quickly.
“Thanks, Rachel. And yeah...I can't wait.”
“Come on, there's a few people we need to talk to.”
The rest of the morning went by slowly. He had told Nick to meet him at the Starbucks nearby for lunch. Rachel informed most of the people that they were leaving and they would be signed over to somebody else. They seemed okay with it but he felt bad for them. Now, he was sitting in Starbucks still waiting for Nick. He was ten minutes late and he didn't think he was coming.
When the bell rang he looked up hopeful but then his heart plummeted. There was Blaine. With a hat and sunglasses on and dressed casually. Kurt watched him as he ordered and waited for his drink. Two guys were standing next to him looking around. Kurt watched as Blaine got his drink and started to walk out.
Blaine seemed to look right at him. He couldn't tell with the sunglasses and that's what hurt him most. Blaine moved faster out of the place and down the street away from the coffee shop. Kurt sat there for another half hour feeling the tears steadily falling down his cheeks. Nick never showed up and a few minutes later he left for his apartment.
