“Oh hey, uh, Kurt isn’t it?” the short dark haired boy extended an arm and shook his hand enthusiastically.
Kurt stared at him for a moment, confused and startled by the way his eyes seemed to sparkle in a different way every time he spoke. Finally his brain caught up to him.
“Kurt it is, I’m sorry I have no idea who you are..” Kurt finally broke away from the handshake and stared at the boy quizzically.
“Kurt! There you are! Damn it Blaine I told you I wanted to introduce you to everyone myself, stop ruining everything.” Rachel whined at the boy and pushed his shoulder, not really moving him at all; turning to look at Kurt excitedly she pulled him inside and snapped the door closed.
“Rachel, what’s going on?” Kurt stared at her and again at the unfamiliar boy to her left.
“Kurt, meet Blaine Anderberry my brother!” she squealed the last part and jumped up and down putting her arm around Blaine and pressing an excited kiss to his cheek.
Kurt just stared at them, his mouth open slightly. Rachel’s brother, Rachel’s gay brother, the one who was supposed to be at boarding school, standing right in front of him.
“I, well, it’s a pleasure to meet you Rachel always talks about you, but I thought you were at Dalton that boarding school?”
“Ah well yes, I was, but I missed my family too much, Dalton’s great and the students and teachers are amazing but, I want my home back. So I decided to start at McKinley, Rachel wasn’t thrilled with the idea that her younger brother was going to her school. She keeps saying I’m going to try and steal her spotlight.” He whispered the last part out of the side of his mouth rolling his eyes at Kurt.
“It’s going to be just perfect, Blaine and I will get every solo, and we sound amazing together. I mean obviously Blaine’s not quite as good as me, but he is younger and he might get there.” she rambled looking at Blaine adoringly and squinting into the distance as she passionately thought of all the duets she’d receive.
Kurt rolled his eyes and looked at the horror on Blaine’s face; he suppressed a laugh as Mercedes jogged down the stairs in her bright red onesie pyjamas.
“Baby! Give me some love and save me from Rachel” she whispered the last bit into his ear. As much as they both loved Rachel, tackling her alone wasn’t the easiest task, it was safer in numbers.
“You’ve met the good sibling, can you believe we’ve been stuck with the evil one all this time?” Mercede’s smiled warmly at Blaine as Rachel rolled her eyes, finally letting her younger brother go from her possessive grip.
“Well as lovely as it is being manhandled by you Rach, I’ll leave you and your friends too it. It was really great meeting you both.” He smiled at Mercede’s and looked at Kurt and for one split second everything stopped. Kurt’s breath caught in his throat and his heart beat erratically. Blaine’s eyes widened just for a moment, so quickly that if Kurt hadn’t been staring into the hazel pair he wouldn’t have seen it at all.
And just as quickly as it happened Blaine had dragged his eyes away and turned on his heel, walking down the hall towards his bedroom. Kurt stood for a second more, watching after him as Mercede’s and Rachel walked up the stairs, bickering about something that was completely irrelevant to how Kurt was presently feeling. He turned and slowly followed his best friends, his mind racing as he pushed any and all of the thoughts that were going through his mind. He’d met Rachel’s brother for no longer than five minutes, just because he was the only other openly gay boy he’d met, ever didn’t mean he had to start thinking about the way his eyes sparkled or how his smile contagiously made the corner of Kurt’s own mouth curl up at the sides. He shook his head, sighing. “and besides” he thought “it’s not like he’d ever be interested in me.”
So he forgot about the brief moment of blurred emotions he’d experienced just moments before and spent the night with his best friends laughing, carefree, not thinking about Blaine and especially not thinking about Karofsky. He did this without knowing that as soon as Rachel’s brother had turned away from Kurt the exact same thoughts had been running through his head, his face blushing the brightest red and that he, himself had spent the entire night trying to push thoughts of Kurt, his sisters best friend, and his bright blue eyes from his mind.
