Chapter 6.
Kurt looked as all his friends got on the bus to go to Six Flags. They had all been given a letter to give to their parents so that they could get permission, but unfortunately they were handed out before Kurt attended the school. Now he was forced to stay at the school alone, for a whole day without any classes to go to, or anything to do.
He sighed as the bus drove out of the school yard, and left Kurt all alone. He turned around and headed for his dorm. He had finally stopped feeling alone at Dalton, and then something like this happens.
Might as well spent the time in a manner I haven’t been able to for some time, he thought to himself.
He picked up the phone and texted Rachel:
Hey Rach, I was wondering if you had any free periods today? If so, call me.
Miss you
-Hummel
He laid the phone on his night stand, and opened his closet, he missed his clothes.
He loved the Dalton uniform, no doubt. The uniform was classy, stylish and it was nice to fit in for once, without having to start wearing the inside of Finn’s closet. Ugh just the thought made him a bit nausea.
But he missed waking up every morning conflicted about what to wear, he missed styling his hair to fit the exact outfit, he missed hanging out in his closet.
He picked out a scarf, oh god he missed scarves. He tugged it close to himself. It was simple, black and navy blue, but also one of his favorites. He decided to put it on, it was only him today anyway so why not?
He stripped out of his Dalton uniform and found some of his old clothes. Some tight jeans and a fitting button-up.
He smiled as he admired himself in his mirror, turning around to look at as many angles as possible. He fixed his hair and sat down on his bed, looking at his phone, but Rachel hadn’t replied him.
He then sighed and got up from his bed. He turned to look in the mirror again, fixing a little lock that had rebelled, he then decided he didn’t want to sit around in his room all day, so he put his phone in his pocket and went out in the hallway.
He could spend the day exploring a bit more of Dalton, sure he had been there in over a week, but there were still loads of things to see. Dalton was huge.
He went outside and turned his focus toward the Crows-House entrance.
He was really interested in that house, Wesley had almost presented those guys as if they were the Slytherin of Dalton.
He started walking towards it, when suddenly he heard a melody forming in the distance. It sounded like someone strumming a guitar. He felt himself getting drawn ,by the soft strumming of the guitar and the small hum that had appeared, when he walked closer and closer. It sounded absolutely beautiful in the most simple way, and when he suddenly was at the door to the small garden with the big red tree, he noticed a figure sitting on the bench under the tree. He didn’t recognize the figure at first.
It was a guy with a mess of black curls. He was leaning over his guitar, head down. He was wearing gray sweatpants and a very fitting long sleeved shirt, with a sleeveless hoodie over it. He could clearly see the defined muscles of the boy’s arms and for a while he just stood there and admired him.
“Hey there Delilah
What's it like in New York City
I'm a thousand miles away
But girl tonight you look so pretty, yes you do
Times Square can't shine as bright as you, I swear it's true”
He knew that voice. That beautiful strong voice, yet so soft and angelic that he felt his knees almost give out under him.
He smiled to himself. He wanted to go over and say hi, but he didn’t want him to stop singing. He decided against it and stepped a bit back so that Blaine wouldn’t notice him. Now he was just listening to the words forming from that beautiful guy’s mouth.
“Hey there Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely
Give this song another listen, close your eyes
Listen to my voice it's my disguise, I'm by your side”
Kurt’s mind starting racing, he really wished he could sit there with Blaine, that those lyrics Blaine was singing was about him, that one day Blaine could look him in the eyes and sing like that to him.
He froze, what was he even thinking? He didn’t like Blaine did he? He shouldn’t, they were just friends.
He knew he was trying to trick himself, he had liked Blaine ever since he first had laid his eyes on him.
He saw Blaine’s eyes close as he kicked into the chorus. He just looked so in sync and… Goddamn, the boy was just a natural beauty. It was like his heart exploded when he saw how passionate Blaine was when he played his guitar, and had thrown those top 40 songs aside, and really sang from his heart.
“Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me”
Pff… You clearly don’t know what you do to me, he thought. A blush crept up his cheeks and he buried his face in his hands.
“A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us
And we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way”
“Delilah I can promise you
That by the time that we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame”
“Hey there Delilah
You be good and don't you miss me
Two more years and you'll be done with school
And I'll be making history like I do”
“You'll know it's all because of you
We can do whatever we want to
Hey there Delilah here's to you
This one's for you”
He couldn’t take his eyes off of Blaine’s strong hands sliding up and down the strings, strumming them gently. He wanted to hold those hands, feel those hands on his skin.
He cursed himself for thinking those thoughts, but still couldn’t stop imagining Blaine’s hands on him.
Blaine jumped into the last chorus and then ended the song by slowing down his movements. He then opened his eyes, and smiled to himself.
Kurt didn’t know what to do, he didn’t want to disturb Blaine but at the same time he just wanted to go right up to him and tell him how lovely that sounded. He wanted to be confident and just go up there and present himself in a way that would make Blaine like him, flirt a little with him maybe?
But who was he kidding, he didn’t know anything about that stuff, he wasn’t the guy Blaine wanted, why would he be? Blaine could probably get anyone he laid his eyes on, I bet girls even turn to look after him, Kurt thought.
Suddenly he got a rush of courage, he came forward from where he was hiding.
But as soon as Blaine turned around and those honey hazel eyes caught eye contact with his, it all rushed away.
“Hi Kurt” Blaine grinned. Kurt didn’t know what to do. He could feel how he started panicking a bit, he was never like this, at least not around Blaine. Blaine usually made him feel so safe. Maybe it was because he had just admitted to himself that he liked the guy, maybe it was because he had just imagined himself holding his hands...
Kurt opened his mouth to speak, “Why are you not on the trip with the others?” He asked, he had intended to compliment his voice or his guitar playing, but that just wasn’t what came out of his mouth. He looked down at his feet.
“I was about to ask you the same question” Blaine laughed.
Kurt couldn’t stop himself from looking at Blaine. When Blaine laughed he got those adorable small crinkles around his eyes and cute dimples on his cheeks. His smile was so contagious that Kurt started smiling without meaning to.
“Well, I asked you first” He said as he winked at Blaine.
He noticed how a small blush appeared on Blaine’s cheeks and made them the most beautiful rose color. It must be the cold weather, Kurt thought to himself and shrugged it off.
“Well, we had to get a signature from our parents and I sort of forgot about that in the rush of homework and stuff.” Blaine said, his big smile fell a little, but Kurt was so caught up in his eyes that he didn’t notice.
“Oh well, Mr. Dapper Anderson forgetting stuff? that sounds so unlike you” He said, God was he flirting again?
Blaine giggled a bit, “Well Mr. Hummel, how about you?”
“I wasn’t transferred when you got the letter to sign, and nobody had informed me about the trip so I couldn’t ask for one. But that’s okay I guess, amusement parks aren’t really my thing anyway.”
“Really, I love them” He said as he sat down on the bench, putting his guitar down beside the bench, and gesturing Kurt to take a seat beside him.
“I could really imagine you in an amusement park” Kurt said as he chuckled.
“Really?” Blaine raised one of his eyebrows, “I didn’t know I took part in your fantasies”
Kurt blushed slightly. God, if you just knew, Kurt thought and punched Blaine’s shoulder playfully. “Yeah, you wish Anderson.” He said and smirked, “But hey, if you love amusement parks then how could you just forget about it?”
Blaine sighed and put his hands in his lap. Suddenly Blaine's smile fell, and he got a very serious look on his face. Non of them said something for a little while, until it seemed like Blaine had figured out hat to say. “I… Kurt, are your parents accepting of your sexuality?”
Kurt got a confused look on his face, but then he realized what this clearly was about. His smile fell as he looked at Blaine, eyes full of pity. “Well my mom died when I was 7, but-“
“Oh, I’m so sorry Kurt” Blaine said as he took Kurt’s hand in his.
“No, really Blaine, it’s okay,” He said as he smiled down at their hands, “anyways… As I was about to say before you interrupted me” Blaine’s face fell into a frown and he looked down. “Blaine, look at me,” When Blaine didn’t turn to look at him, Kurt lifted his head with his free hand, “just like that” He said as he smiled. “My dad was very supportive when I came out to him, and he still is,” he hesitated for a while, “but I guess your parents isn’t?”
Blaine looked away and mumbled a little “Not exactly”
“Is it bad? I mean… Do you wanna talk about it?” when Blaine didn’t answer Kurt continued a bit unsure “I mean you don’t have to if you don’t want to, but I just thought that maybe… I don’t know. I’m here if you need me okay?”
Blaine’s gaze finally met Kurt’s again, he smiled a halfhearted smile.
Blaine hesitated and looked away again. “I have never really spoken openly about this stuff, and… I don’t know if I’m. Ready? I don’t know… I just feel so… selfish, when all I talk about is myself. I don’t want to bore you, you know?”
Kurt frowned and squeezed Blaine’s hand, to let him know he truly was there if he needed him. “You could never bore me with your problems Blaine,” he squeezed again, which caused Blaine to look him in the eyes. Kurt could see that Blaine’s eyes were watery and it hurt Kurt to see Blaine so broken, “never ever.”
Blaine tried to force a smile on, but Kurt could see right through it. And when a tear fell down Blaine’s cheek, Kurt pulled Blaine’s hand towards him, which caused Blaine to end up in his arms. He felt Blaine going stiff, but after Kurt had held him for a while, he relaxed and let himself cry silently into Kurt’s shoulder. Kurt felt Blaine shaking in his arms and Blaine’s small choked off cries vibrated through his body, and his heart ached for the boy in his arms.
After a good ten minutes, Blaine stopped sobbing, he dried his eyes in his sleeve and when he looked back at Kurt he couldn’t help himself but to smile a little. His eyes sparkled so beautifully through his tearful eyes.
“Kurt, I’m sor-“
Kurt broke him off “Blaine don’t apologize”
Blaine just nodded,
“Speak to me” Kurt said, “I’m here to listen, I won’t judge” he reassured.
“Everything was fine until I came out, or not fine, they’ve always been a bit after me with school and stuff... I guess they just expected a bit too much of me. Anyway my dad is super republic, and I guess I just turned out to be everything he didn’t wish for ‘a faggot son, who cares more about those stupid arts than anything of importance’” Blaine impressioned with a big of a lower voice, “and suddenly, I meant nothing to him, or, well that’s a lie. He did have feelings towards me. Hate. He hated me. His own son. My mom was convinced I was possessed by some sort of deviled force, so she just stood and watched while my dad tried to beat it out of me” Blaine’s voice broke, and he laid his head in his hands.
Kurt just sat there, shocked, paralyzed.
Fantastic, Kurt could help with so much, but this issue, was one that he had been so lucky not to ever experience, Kurt thought.
He felt like as if he couldn’t move, and his heart broke a little, when he saw Blaine tear up again. All he wanted was to kiss Blaine’s tears away and make him forget all about what he had been put through. Wait, what? Kiss? That thought had never literally crossed Kurt’s mind before.
He was pulled out of his thoughts as he heard Blaine sobbing loudly, tears streaming down his face like a waterfall and his mouth trembling violently. Kurt shouldn’t be thinking about kissing Blaine now. No, he should think about how to comfort him.
Kurt didn’t know what to say. ”You don’t… you don’t need to talk more about it. I want to tell you that I get it, but I really don’t. All I can do is to be here for you” he opened his arms and Blaine accepted his embrace.
“Thanks Kurt” he mumbled and they just sat there, none of them needing to say anymore to each other.
“~”
When Kurt got up to his room his phone rang.
“Hi Rach… I’m good how about you?”
