Chapter 5.
Sunday went by in a haze of homework and the mental preparation of going back to school again Monday.
After a long day, spent with Wes doing homework, Kurt needed to get outside for a while. His first weekend at Dalton was soon over, and even though he had missed his dad and Finn, he had had a great time. He had made some new friends and spent quite a lot of time with Wes and David.
As he pushed the door open to the outside he was hit by the cold October wind. He smiled to himself as he went over what had happened that weekend, in his head;
He had had an amazing night with the boys Friday. Not to mention the “incident” with Blaine, that he so often thought about when he was alone. At first he had tried to tell himself that it was just the whole feeling of having a body pressed up against you, but after a whole lot of useless convincing, he finally admitted that it was indeed the fact that it was Blaine.
Blaine who was amazing and had the most gorgeous warm honey eyes, he always had that stupid perfect grin on his face and Kurt just couldn’t help but smile whenever he saw Blaine, because Blaine literally lit up every room he would step into.
Kurt sighed as he sat down on the bench, under the main tree of the small garden. Dalton was so huge. He still couldn’t find his way around the school. He remembered how to get to most of his classes, but he still found himself having no idea where he was sometimes.
He leaned back in his seat and looked up at the blue sky. He followed a red leaf falling from the enormous tree above him. He followed it’s movements until it fell to the ground right in front of a pair of black shoes.
Kurt cocked his head to the side as he looked the body up, and then got paralyzed as he saw the beautiful boy with the gorgeous honey eyes watching him with a confused look on his face.
“Kurt?” His soft voice broke Kurt out of his thoughts and he quickly turned his head to the sight, when he realized he most had been staring at Blaine.
“Oh, hi Blaine, what’s up?” He asked lamely as he tried to cover up the slight blush that had started to appear on his pale face.
A grin spread on Blaine’s face as he watched Kurt slowly coming back to himself, as if he was just awoken from a dream.
“I just wanted to know if you wanted to head with me down for dinner? I mean the kitchen closes in about half an hour and I’m starving”
Kurt’s stomach quickly remembered that it had been far too long since he had had something to eat.
“Sure, let me just go and get my phone, I forgot it up in our dorm, and I just don’t like not having it around”
“Okay,” Blaine said, and offered his hand to Kurt.
Kurt looked a bit confused at the hand, what was Blaine doing? Blaine gestured for Kurt to take it,
“I just wanted to help you up?” Blaine said. And as Kurt understood he, a little flustered, took the hand and Blaine helped him get on his feet, lingering a little longer on the touch before letting go.
And they started walked up to Eagles-house wing.
“So, done with all the homework? The teachers tend to give a lot of catch up work when new students transfer from public schools.” Blaine asked as he opened the ‘front door’ of the Eagle-house.
“It wasn’t actually that bad to be honest, and I’m almost done. I just need to do a physics report, but Physics is not really my strongest subject so I don’t really wanna waste too much energy on it”
“You know, I could help you? I got an A on my last one”
“Is there anything you can’t do?” Kurt quickly realized what he had just said, was he flirting? Him, Kurt Hummel flirting? What the fuck? Kurt Hummel didn’t flirt, he was never forward towards his crushes. Gosh, he was so stupid! Blaine would never like him back.
As Kurt was busy fighting in his mind, he completely missed the way Blaine’s cheeks got slightly red.
Kurt was dragged out of his head as Blaine cleared his throat and spoke. “I’m actually really bad at writing songs, I try… A LOT, but it just won’t do, I guess” He explained and shrugged as he opened the door for Kurt, to step into his dorm.
Kurt giggled, and went inside to get his phone.
“Hi Wes, we’re going down to get some dinner. Wanna join?” Kurt asked.
Wes eyed Blaine, smiled and shook his head “No I’m good, I still need to look over my English Essay, and David and I went to get sandwiches about an hour ago so I’m full, thank you for the offer though”
“Okay” Kurt said and Blaine nodded. They stepped back outside the hallway.
Kurt quickly checked his phone, to see if he had any texts from his friends. He smiled as he read a couple of texts from Mercedes asking him how he was one from Brittany telling him how to breathe underwater - now that he was attending the dolphin school, and at last one from Finn, saying that they all missed him and that Rachel said hi.
Blaine looked to Kurt as he noticed that Kurt wasn’t listening to a single word he was saying, he didn’t get mad though. He got a little irritated at first, but as he saw how Kurt smiled down at his phone, replying to his messages he couldn’t help but smile himself. As Kurt pocketed his phone Blaine spoke up again. “You really miss them, don’t you?”
“What? Who?”
“Your friends from your old school, dummie” He teased as he nudged Kurt in the side.
“Is it that obvious?” He asked with a shy smile playing on his lips.
“No, it actually isn’t, but I know how it feels. I also transferred to Dalton midterms… Even though I didn’t really have any frie-“ Blaine’s words slowly trailed off, “anyways, I get it” He finished and entered the cafeteria with Kurt behind him.
Kurt just nodded at Blaine, and decided to let what Blaine had just said go for now.
They found a table and ate their meal in silence. It was a bit awkward, but Kurt really didn’t mind. He just loved being close to Blaine and being in his company.
“~”
Monday morning came around, and all the students gathered around the cafeteria for the morning assembly.
Wesley walked in still a little sleepy and found a seat between Kurt, who was sitting staring longingly at Blaine, and David.
The principal took the stage and cleared his throat “attention students,” he said and looked around, “This year, we’ve decided to do a house-cup! Which means we will set up some tournaments through the year for the different houses to compete, and win some prizes, and by the end of the year, the house with the highest scores in both grades and competition points will win a trip for the entire house, everything paid, to go to France!”
An excited vibe spread across the room, as the students started cheering. Kurt was a bit shocked, just giving away a trip to France to an entire House for free? That seemed like a bit of an overkill in his opinion. But then again, he didn't attend a rich kid private school for nothing.
He looked across the big room to see Blaine fall down in Dylan’s lap, a big grin across his face as he high-fived Dylan, and mouthed: “We’ve got this!”
Dylan’s arms wrapped around Blaine as he got to his feet and carried him around the cafeteria. Kurt had to look away. When he looked around the room, he noticed that almost everyone had got up from their seats and went for the exit of the room. The principal had also left the stage and soon the room was left quiet. He had been so caught up in his own thoughts that he hadn’t even noticed Dylan and Blaine leaving.
He sighed and got to his feet. As he picked up his bag from the floor, he heard footsteps interfere with the quiet room.
He looked up only to find Blaine looking down at him. He smiled at Blaine, and straightened up, which caused Blaine to then look up at him instead. “I… Eh… Do- do you know where your next class is?” He asked as he brought one of his hands behind his head and rubbing his neck.
“Right next to yours” Kurt said with a small smile.
Blaine also smiled and he offered an arm “walk with me?”
Kurt shyly took the arm, and they started walking.
“~”
Kurt was sitting in French class when he felt a little paper ball hitting the back of his head.
“Ow” he whispered to himself, didn’t the school have a no bullying policy? He could feel how his stomach flinched.
He wanted to look around to see where it came from but somehow he felt stuck, like he didn’t dare, he just kept starring down at his paper trying to finish the assignment.
“You’re supposed to open it idiot” he heard someone whisper behind him, he turned around to see the blond boy, Jeff wasn’t it? Looking at him with an annoyed look. Next to him a dark haired boy, he wasn’t sure he had spoken to – but he definitely had met before, sat and whispered to Jeff, “be nice” he friendly shoved him a bit.
Kurt looked a bit confused at first but then Jeff gestured towards the paper ball, and Kurt looked around to see if the teacher had noticed the little scenario but she was seemingly busy trying to help a guy bending verbs.
Kurt picked up the note,
Hi Kurt,
So since u joined our movie night last weekend,
and Blaine really seems to like u,
we were wondering if you wanted to join the house party at Nick’s this Friday?
Idk if u like partying,
but we just wanted u to know that u’re welcome!
Jeff and Nick :D
He laughed slightly at the smiley at the end. Nick that must’ve been the name for the other guy, Kurt thought.
Blaine really seems to like you, what was that supposed to mean? Kurt quickly came to the conclusion that he was reading too much into it and that he maybe should just turn around and give the guys an answer.
He looked from Jeff to Nick and smiled, he then nodded and mouthed “Thank you”.
Blaine really seems to like you? He couldn't help but to wonder, what that comment meant.
“~”
“Okay, so… The House-cup? That’s the next order of business, right?” Hunter said after clearing his throat.
“Yes, we need to put down some rules, guys” Dylan said as he sat down next to Wes. It was his second House President meeting and he was so excited, but as he looked at Wes and saw his bored and uninterested look, he found himself wondering why.
“Pff,” Sebastian snorted, “who the hell want rules, Doctor Who? I say we make it the most intense competition ever”
Hunter smirked, “I like that idea, Smythe!” He pointed out and wrote it down on a paper.
“Hey, no! Dylan is right, we need to have some guiding lines” Wes protested, and Dylan was suddenly thankful for having his friend there to support him.
Hunter and Sebastian shared a quick look and then looked uninterested at Wes. “What do you suggest?” Hunter asked.
“The no bullying policy should actually draw the line, right? So if no one crosses the line, we would be fine?” Dylan suggested and smiled shyly.
“Yeah, we’ll see about that” Hunter said as he winked at Dylan.
“Meeting’s over!” Sebastian exclaimed and got up, “See ya’”
