He slowly got out of his car and made his way to the main building. He just put his foot on the first step when he heard a voice call out his name. Kurt turned around and started to smile. He knew that voice. “Hey, Buddy!” He responded. As soon as he caught sight of Everett, he reached out for a hug. “Dad! Why are you here? … Are you okay?” Everett hugged his father and then pulled back. “What’s wrong?” Kurt sighed heavily and looked at his son. “I’ll tell you later, Everett. How about tomorrow? I’ll take you out for coffee. I’m actually here to talk to Nick… I mean Mr. Duval and all of the older Warblers. Personal matters.” He pushed Everett’s curly hair out of his eyes and smiled. Blaine had that same problem. Well, that was when he didn’t have it gelled back so much that it looked like a helmet. Kurt smiled. “Hey. Don’t worry about it. Its late. Shouldn’t you be studying or getting ready for bed or something” Everett rolled his eyes. Now that was a habit that he inherited from Kurt. “Dad, its Friday! I don’t have class until Monday!” Now it was Kurt’s turn to roll his eyes. “Everett. There is never an excuse to get some good beauty sleep. Sleeping is good for –““Your immune system. And skin. I know, Dad” Everett said interrupting him mid-sentence. They both remained silent for a moment then burst out laughing. “I miss you, Dad.” Everett said smiling. Kurt smiled back and put his hand on his son’s shoulder. “I miss you too, Kiddo. It’s only been a day. But you’ll be back home for holidays and summer. I’ll even visit you if I get too lonely.” Everett smiled. “Okay, Dad. I’ll go back to my dorm. Promise me that we’ll get coffee tomorrow?” Kurt smiled and hugged his son once more. He kissed the top of his head “I promise. Stay away from trouble” Everett smiled “Don’t worry. I will” he said before turning to face the dorms and walking towards them. Kurt smiled and watched his son. After about a minute, he continued up the steps to the Headmaster’s office with a smile on his face.
He entered the building and smiled at the secretary. “Oh Hello, Kurt!” She said with a surprised look on her face. Kurt looked confused for a minute and then it hit him “Julie? From the Cheerios? You work at Dalton now?” Kurt smiled Julie was one of the Cheerios that was actually nice to Kurt and Mercedes and befriended them. Julie smiled “Yeah! After McKinley I realized that I can’t just live my life cheerleading, so, now I’m a secretary here at Dalton” Kurt smiled “Well I’m glad that you realized that. Um, is Nick in? I was hoping that I could talk to him and some of the other teachers. We’re friends from high school.” Julie smiled “Yeah! He’s in his office. I don’t think he’s doing anything that important this time of night”
Kurt said goodbye to Julie and headed to the direction of the Headmaster’s office. He had been there only a few times before: Once when he was transferring to Dalton, another when he had been transferring back to McKinley and the last when he was registering Everett to be enrolled at Dalton. He knocked on the door once and then opened the door. “Nick?” he said. “Are you in here? Julie said that you were here” He heard a voice come from behind the desk. “Yupp I’m here just give me one second.” Kurt stepped in the office as Nick’s chair turned around. “Hey buddy! You’re here early. I thought you were having dinner with Seb-“ Nick stopped suddenly as Kurt’s smile fell. “Shit, Kurt, what happened? Did he hurt you or…?” Kurt sat down in one of the chairs and massaged his temples. “No. He did try to seduce me. I think... I was the closest thing that he has to Blaine. I screamed at him and ran away.” Nick sighed and leaned forward on his elbows. “Did he say anything to you after you yelled at him?” Kurt thought for a second. “I.. no I don’t think so. He just kind of stood there.” He sighed audibly and sunk further down into the chair. “I will tell you that he is the same old douchebag as before.”
Nick chuckled quietly. “Some people never change. Want me to call Wes and Trent over and we can talk about it over coffee?” Kurt nodded silently and checked his watch. “yeah that’d be great. I really need some guy time. For 10 years I’ve just been too busy with raising Everett and with my reviews. I haven’t had time to re-connect with my old friends. Not since… y’know.” Nick stood up and patted Kurt on the shoulder. “I know. Let’s go down to the teacher’s lounge.” He opened the door for Kurt “Julie, call Wes and Trent and tell them to come down to the teacher’s lounge. It’s an emergency Warblers meeting” Kurt smiled at Julie before following Nick into the hallway. “Y’know I saw Everett today. Right before I came into your office, actually. I’m gonna tell him about Sebastian and what a douchebag he is.” Kurt said with a soft laugh. Nick sighed “You sure he won’t be traumatized by everything, Kurt? He is only 14.” Kurt smiled and looked at the floor “He’s been through a lot. I know. He’ll be fine.” They entered the teacher’s lounge and sat down at a table. “If you say so.” Nick started drumming his fingers on the table when they heard a familiar noise. “Oh yeah!” Kurt smiled as he and Nick both returned the famous Warbler Call in unison.
