Kurt turned to his son and gave him a big hug. “Now go have fun at Dalton. I know you will.” He kissed Everett’s forehead and watched him walk into the building. Everett had put his luggage in his dorm earlier. He looked back at his father one final time before closing the giant wooden doors to Dalton. Kurt got in his car and sat there for a minute, thinking about his son, and his husband. He put the keys in the ignition and started to drive home. He turned on the radio and looked for a familiar song to sing along to. He switched through the stations but then went back. Hearing some lyrics he knew.
Let’s go all the way tonight.
No regrets. Just love.
We can dance until we die
You and I.
We’ll be young forever.
Kurt pulled over to the side of the road quickly and continued listening, closing his eyes, letting the memories from that first day flow into his mind. A single tear fell from his eye as the chorus continued.
You make me feel like I’m living a
Teenage Dream
The way you turn me on.
I can’t sleep.
Let’s run away and don’t ever look back
Don’t ever look back.
My heart stops
When you look at me.
Just one touch.
Now baby I believe
This is real.
So take a chance and
Don’t ever look back
Don’t ever look back.
Kurt smiled as tears started flowing from his eyes. One single verse from that song made him start to sob.
I’ve finally found you my missing puzzle piece.
I’m complete.
Kurt missed Blaine. Every minute of every day for eleven years, he had missed him. Every Sunday, Kurt would go into the graveyard in which Blaine Hummel-Anderson was buried and he would sit there and pray. Not to God. But to Blaine. Kurt still didn’t believe in a higher power. But when Blaine died, he had no choice but to believe in his husband. That he was somewhere in this universe looking after Kurt and smiling down on him. Sometimes, Kurt would sing one of the songs that they sung to each other. Kurt turned off the radio when the song ended and wiped the tears from his eyes. He started the car back up and drove. Not to his home, but the cemetery. He needed to see his husband.
