Author's Notes: Okay! So originally, I was going to put this up at ff.net and I was editing the doc as I wrote the chapter out long hand. But just before I went to edit in the end of the chapter, the site decided it was going to have issues letting me into my account. It's done it before and it took several days for me to gain access again. Here, since I use my cell phone, I can't actually start anything new because my browser crashes whenever I try, so I'm editing something that didn't do so well instead and replacing it with this. Enjoy!

The Dominant and Submissive Relationship Society - Article 173-A

Dominant: The dominant one in the relationship, meant to give the orders, control, and run the relationship; the one in charge.

Submissive: The submissive one in th relationship, meant to follow orders, give into commands, and run the household; the one not in charge.

Soulmate: A person's life match. The Dom meant for the Sub; the Sub meant for the Dom.

This is how the world works in modern day society. The Dom orders the Sub and the Sub balances the Dom. Usually.

Recent studies have shown that though rare and highly unlikely, it is possible for two Doms or two Subs to find themselves to be soulmates.

Perhaps the most famous proof of this rare occurrence is the case of Aaron East and Bailey Hart. Aaron was the captain of the football team and Bailey was head cheerleader. Cliched we know but both were Doms and both were found to be soulmates.

It is not yet clear why two Doms or two Subs may turn out to be soulmates. Some scientists believe that the fates look ahead to examine the chemistry of two people. If the attraction is read strong by the fates than whether they are Dom or Sub is apparently canceled out. Others believe there is no real reason for it at all, but that the fates have merely spitfired a glitch. After all, even the fates can't be perfect, right?

But as this rarity begins to grow more common in recent years, some people believe the fates are looking to wipe the the codes of Doms and Subs forever so that they cease to exist. In a sense this would lead the world to rely on finding soulmates and whether you are Dom or Sub will no longer be an important factor.

As such, this has thrown not just the country's government, but that of the entire world into a discussion of whether or not it should be illegal to tell someone your status unless you can prove they're your soulmate. Indeed, a few small countries have already passed such a law.

Kurt Hummel stared at the article that was printed in his textbook for his Human Relations class. His freshman year of high school was about to start the very next day, which meant one thing. He was to receive his soulmate mark.

For as long as society could remember, soulmate marks were always received on the person's first official day of high school, even if they didn't show up. Though this was really against the law and causing a soulmate marker associate to stop off at one's house warranted a major fine. Freshman year was when the fates deemed dating to be appropriate. This was regardless of whether or not the person felt like they were ready to date.

Human Relations was part of every incoming freshman's school curriculum. Kurt had always kind of looked forward to it.

He was nervous about beginning high school but not because it meant getting his soulmate mark. No, he was nervous about what his peers would say when they learned that Kurt Hummel was a Dom.

The law stated that Doms and Subs would be mixed and schooled together up until high school. As soulmate marks were not to be received until a child's first day of high school, whether a child was a Dom or a Sub was not to be revealed to anyone other than the child's family until that day as well.

It was common for people to start speculating the status of their peers as they got closer to the year they would know. It was in high school, Doms and Subs were separated. Each had their own course of classes, sitting their lessons with only others of their status. The only class the two were mixed in during their entire high school career was the required Human Relations class in freshman year. Other than that, they were only allowed to mix and mingle during lunch and after school clubs or sports.

Kurt was well aware that all his peers expected him to he a Sub and that was why he was nervous. No one would ever believe that Kurt Hummel was a Dom.

He stared at the small black crescent tattoo that rested just behind his ear as he we t through his nightly moisturizing routine, tracing a finger over it lightly. On his vanity was the black dominant bracelet he would wear for the first time the very next day.

There were two distinctive signs that identified whether one was a Dom or a Sub. The first was a small crescent tattoo behind the ear that was present right from birth. It was black for Doms and silver for Subs. Until freshman year, children had to wear small ear cuffs designed to hide the tattoo. The second sign was a bracelet; again, black for Doms and silver for Subs. The bracelet was given to the child at birth and never to be worn until freshman year.

Kurt continued to stare at himself in the vanity mirror. This was it. Walking into McKinley High School tomorrow with the identifiers that marked him a Dom on display would either make or break his life. After all, just because one was a Dom did not mean you were immediately on top of the food chain.

So there he was.

Kurt stood in front of the doors to McKinley High School the next morning, ear cuff free, one hand wrapped around the strap of his satchel, Dom bracelet gleaming in the morning sunlight.

The very first order of business was the marking ceremony. All freshmen were to report directly to the auditorium. Kurt's nerves had intensified so much, he had considered staying home but he refused to cost his dad that fine.

Burt Hummel was a Dom who had lost his Submissive when Kurt was only right years old. He relied on the money earned by the tire shop he owned to keep him and Kurt going and living comfortably. Kurt would never forgive himself if he cost his dad that fine. So he had forced himself to suck it up and go to school.

"Kurt!" shouted a voice. The fourteen year old boy turned to see Mercedes Jones, one of his few friends running toward him. The gleam of the sun reflected of the silver bracelet she wore on the wrist of the hand she was waving in the air.

Submissive.

Kurt did not find himself surprised. Mercedes had never struck him as the dominant type.

"You're a Sub," he said with a slight smile as she reached him.

Mercedes hadn't noticed the black bracelet around Kurt's own wrist. "I know right?" she chattered happily, linking arms with him. "I can't wait to sit together in class and catch up on all the gossip," she went on as she steered him into the school, the two of them following the freshmen crowd to the auditorium.

Kurt frowned and stopped walking. "Um…Mercedes," he said hesitantly.

"What is it boo?" she replied, concern lack g her voice. Kurt didn't know exactly how to say it so, he showed her his other wrist. For a moment she just stared at it, completely stunned. Mercedes, like all their peers, had been positive Kurt was a Sub. "You're…you're a Dom?" she managed to whisper. Kurt gave her a slightly apologetic look.

"I'm sorry Cedes," he said, not sure if it was really his place to apologize for something that was out of his control.

Mercedes however, brightened after a moment. And suddenly she let out a loud squeal, catching Kurt off-guard as she threw her arms around him in a hug. A few people in the hallway stopped and stared at them for a moment before hurrying on their way.

"Oh! This is great!" she cried, linking their arms together again. "Now there's a possibility we can be soulmates!"

Kurt frowned. He knew that wasn't going to happen. He knew because he didn't like girls. The pale boy had known for a while now that he was gay. But he couldn't tell her that. He was too scared. Although being gay was not something that had people batting an eyelash in modern society because the fates decided who you were with, it still had the tendency to get people bullied sometimes. There were Doms who would assert their power over gays, both Dom and Sub alike. And with Doms being the higher end of society, it did not always fair well for the one they were taunting. Though a taunted Dom had a better chance of taking it all while upholding their pride. They were stronger than Subs after all.

So no, he couldn't tell her. His only reply as they entered the auditorium was, "Yeah, maybe."

Mercedes seemed not to notice his lack of enthusiasm as they took their seats. Kurt instinctively found himself sitting next to Rachel Berry, a girl who was very self-centered and full of herself. She clearly exuberatsd the personality of a Dom. So you can imagine Kurt's surprise when he noticed the silver bracelet on her wrist.

Kurt nudged Mercedes to get her attention.

"What?" the girl whispered.

"Rachel's a Sub," he whispered back and when Mercedes stared at him in disbelief, he subtly pointed at Rachel's wrist. Mercedes shook her head, completely stunned.

"That's not possible," she whispered. "Everything about Rachel Beery screams Dom." Kurt shrugged and opened his mouth to point out that she had thought he was a Sub when he was actually a Dom, but was stopped by the sound of someone clearing their throat.

"Good morning students," spoke a man of Indian descent. "I am Principal Figgins and welcome to McKinley High." He paused, allowing for the meak applause he received. "Now, before we begin, I'm going to ask you all to rearrange yourselves so Doms sit in the front of the auditorium and Subs sit in the back."

So this was where it began. Kurt could not help the disapproving glare that crossed his face. Doms were always treated much more highly than Subs were and high school was where you got your first taste of the separation method. Kurt shot Mercedes an apologetic look as he got up and went to move to the front of the auditorium but to his surprise, Rachel caught his wrist.

"Where are you going Kurt?" she asked incredulously. "Submissives sit in the back." She made to pull him along but Kurt pulled his wrist from her grasp.

"I know that Rachel but I'm not a Sub," he replied calmly.

She just looked at him. "What?"

"I'm not a Sub Rachel," he repeated, showing her the black bracelet on his wrist.

She stared at it for a moment before a rather angry look crossed her face and Kurt knew she was about to make a scene. Sure enough, she threw her hands up in the air.

"Preposterous!" Rachel shouted. Glaring at Kurt, she started jabbing him hard in the chest with a finger. "How the hell do you get to be a Dom when I'm stuck a lowly Sub and you know I'm better than you? Always have been, always will be."

Kurt just stared at her for a moment. Suddenly, his eyes narrowed and he gripped her wrist firmly, pulling her hand away from his chest. He could already hear the whispers.

"You're not better than me Rachel Berry," he quipped cooly and Rachel froze. Her tendencies, as a Submissive, to obey, keeping her in line. "You're a selfish, greedy, self-centered bitch and I pity any Dom who ends up your soulmate," he finished. With those words, Kurt turned turned and walked off, sitting down in the front row of the auditorium. Mercedes grabbed Rachel's wrist and pulled her off to the back.

It took a few minutes for everyone to get settled again and Kurt slumped down in his seat a little, as he could feel people staring at him. It was making him uncomfortable.

"Dude, you okay?" asked a voice. Kurt turned his head, noticing that he was sitting beside Finn Hudson. He gave the tall boy a small nod.

"Yes, I just…I knew this was going to happen," he said. He didn't really like the fact that Finn had called him dude but he let it go for the time being. Finn didn't say anything but gave him a nod that suggested he wasn't entirely convinced. Kurt silently thanked him for being so concerned.

"Great!" came Figgins' voice and Kurt returned his attention to the principal. "Now that we are all situated, we shall get started." He gestured to a woman that was standing beside a machine. The machine had a place for one to set their wrist, likely palm up. A blue light flooded down over the wrist hold and Kurt could just make out a small gadget above the wrist hold that looked like a mass of tiny needles. The side of the machine was marked with the words, Fate Finder.

Kurt could hear more whispers going up around him and he saw Figgins wave his hands for silence.

"I'd like to introduce you all to Amanda Larsen of the Fate Finder Association." Everyone knew what the Fate Finder Association was. They were responsible for giving new freshman their soulmate marks. It may seem easy, but it really wasn't. A mark would not be imprinted on an individual unless that individual was at least fourteen years of age. It wouldn't work on someone younger. This meant that by law, no child was allowed to skip a grade until after freshman year. They could be held back though. "She will be administering your marks."

Figgins stepped back and the woman came forward, smiling around at them all.

"So this is how this is going to work," she said, not bothering to open with a greeting. "When I call your name, you are to come up and place your wrist in the machine, palm up. The blue light will identify you and your specific code before the ink pins come down and permanently mark your wrist with the name of your soulmate," she explained. "There are wrist cuffs over there. Whether you wish to keep this person's name to yourself is up to you but just no that no one is allowed to remove your cuff other than you and your soulmate. Any questions?"

Rachel raised her hand and the woman nodded to her. "Is it going to hurt?" she asked. Kurt wanted to roll his eyes because the answer to that question was so obvious.

"It will sting a little, yes," Amanda replied. "Yes?" she said, nodding to a girl a few seats away from Kurt, whom he recognized as Santana Lopez.

"What are the chances of our soulmate being someone we already know?" she asked and Kurt had to hand it to her. That was a good question.

Amanda smiled at Santana. "You'd be surprised how common that is. It's not unheard of for your interactions with people to play a part in who the fates mark as your soulmate. But it's just as likely that it may be someone you have never met."

Out of the corner of his eye, Kurt saw Noah Puckerman raise his hand. Amanda nodded at him.

"Will our soulmate be our age?" Kurt rolled his eyes. Figured he would ask something like that. Noah did have a thing for older women, a fact that caused Kurt to shudder slightly.

"Not necessarily," Amanda replied. "They can be anywhere from five years older to give years younger, but usually no more than that." Noah looked slightly disappointed. Kurt felt his gut clench. He did not like the idea of waiting a minimum of five more years to meet his soulmate.

Remembering the article in his Human Relations text, Kurt came up with his own question and tentatively raised his hand. Amanda gave him a polite nod.

"What are the chances that our soulmate may turn out to be another Dom or Sub?" he asked carefully. A sudden hush fell over the auditorium and everyone was on edge as they awaited the woman's reply. Clearly, he wasn't the only one who had read the article.

Amanda was quiet for a moment, contemplating her answer. "Recent research has shown that it is possible for two Doms or two Subs to be soulmates. Chances are that's not likely to happen. But just know that it is possible."

There were murmurs around the room and though he wouldn't say so aloud, Kurt kind of wanted to be in that small percentage. The fact was, he didn't like the idea of being in charge of someone else's actions.

"How would it work though?" piped up Quinn Fabray from her seat among the other Subs. Kurt was a little surprised to find her to be a Sub.

Amanda focused on her for a moment. "Not much yet is known about Dom/Dom and Sub/Sub soulmate relationships but we believe when it happens, one person is the Submissive Dom or Dominant Sub. It depends on the situation. This would mean that one of the Doms would act like the Sub and one of the Subs would act like the Dom."

Well, she was making a lot of sense actually. Kurt had no doubt in his mind that he would be the Submissive Dom should he end up in that very rare situation. But he wouldn't know of he was until he knew the status if his soulmate. And well, he had to know who he was first.

"Any more questions?" Amanda asked. No one raised their hand. She clapped her hands together. "Okay, we'll get started. Doms will get their marks first and then Subs. We'll be going in alphabetical order. So Azimio Adams, you are first," she went on.

Kurt watched absently as the Doms were called up one at a time to get their marks. With the freshman class divided between Doms and Subs, he knew he wouldn't have to wait long for his name to be called and it wasn't until Amanda called Finn's name that he started to feel extremely nervous. This was it, the moment at which he would learn the name of his soulmate was in reach.

He saw Finn cringe a bit as the ink pins imprinted his wrist and he swallowed. Finn wandered to get a cuff from the table and stared at his wrist the entire time. Then, when he picked up the cuff, he lifted his head and looked directly at Rachel. At least Kurt thought it was Rachel. He twisted in his seat to look back at her.

"Kurt Hummel!" Amanda called, snapping the pale boy back to attention. The remaining unmarked Doms all looked at him as he swallowed and slowly stood up from his seat. He could see the sneers on the faces of people who had always tormented him. People like Dave Karofsky and Rick Nelson. He thought he heard Karofsky muttering something about wondering how the lady boy had gotten to he a Dom.

Amanda lead him over to the machine and instructed him to place his wrist in the wrist hold. Kurt could feel the lump in his throat. Her turned his head to glance at Mercedes who gave him a thumbs up.

When he noticed the ink pins begin to lower, he squeezed his eyes shut and turned his head away. There was a sudden stinging prickling in his wrist that lasted a mere few seconds. He realized that the different clusters of pins were each meant to print one letter, effectively printing the entire name at the same time. It was probably designed this way to sufficiently cut the amount of pain the ricipient had to endure. Quite a clever tactic if you asked him.

And then it was done. The pins were raising again and Amanda was ushering him along to the cuff table. Kurt looked down at his wrist to see the name printed there.

Blaine Devon Anderson

"Who?"

End Notes:

Yeah, that would be a good thing to cover. I think I'll go ahead and do that. ^_^ I'm writing this as I go so we'll see, though I'm thinking Blaine will transfer to McKinley for reasons. We'll see. Thank you for reading!

Update soon! :D I loved the whole Dom/Dom thing, I'm interested to see how it plays out! ^.^

Should be fun to write! I'm guessing people have an idea already with the Dom/Dom thing but much about Blaine shall be revealed in the next chapter. :) Thanks for reading!

Don't mind me while I squeal with delight :) I just realized that I've never actually read a Dom/Dom fic before. I'm sure they exist, but somehow I managed to miss them. That just makes me look forward to watching this drama unfold all the more.

Squeal all you like. ^_^ I like to try and put my own spin on anything that I know is a popular idea. I strive to be original. One of the reasons Kurt is a Dom in this story is because so many I've read have him as a Sub. So, I'm more likely to take the road less traveled. Glad you're enjoying it!

Good story! Good beginning! I

Glad you are liking it!
