I was lying on the floor of my bedroom, drawing a sketch. The sketch was of a boy with curly, lightly gelled hair. The boy had a soft smile and his eyes were filled with love and happiness. I didnt know who this boy was, I saw him in a dream. Suddenly, Rachel, my best friend and roommate, walked into the room.
"Happy birthday!" She exclaimed.
I stood up and gave her a hug.
"Do you have any plans?" She asked. I sighed.
"No. I was just gonna stay home, catch up on Project Runway." I said with a shrug.
"You cant stay home on your birthday." Rachel said.
"I have nothing else to do."
I sat down on my bed. Rachels attention went to the sketch that I was previously working on.
"Whats that?" Rachel asked, a smile playing on her lips.
"Its just a sketch of a boy that came up in one of my dreams." I said nonchalantly.
I twirled the chain of my necklace around my finger. Ive had that necklace for as long as I could remember. The charm was half of a royal blue heart shaped stone, and for an unknown reason, it was always ice cold. Rachel pulled me off of my bed.
"Wait, what are you doing?" I asked.
"Im taking you somewhere for your birthday." She said.
"Where?" I asked frantically.
"Youll see."
I rolled my eyes. Rachel knew I hated surprises.
"The Coffee Shop? Thats the big surprise?" I asked, unimpressed.
"No. Thats just the beginning of the big surprise." Rachel explained with a sly smile on her face.
She got out of the car and started walking, I followed. We walked into the shop and ordered our coffee.
"So, how does it feel to be nineteen?" Rachel asked excitedly as we sat down with our coffee.
"Feels just like eighteen." I said before taking a sip of my coffee.
We continued to talk until I noticed a weird feeling of warmth on my chest. I furrowed my brow as my hand went to the source of the warmth.
"Whats wrong? Rachel asked.
"My charm is warm." I explained.
Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a head of curly hair that was almost too familiar. I turned to see the person. When the person turned around, I realized who it was. It was the boy.
