I walked through the doors into my new school. I took a deep breath. I just wanted to be somewhere where everything could be normal. I took in the sight of the school. It was overwhelming.

"Are you okay?" A guy beside me asked.

I turned to the guy. He was tall with blond hair and brown eyes.

"Im fine." I sighed. " Im new here, and Im a little overwhelmed."

I look around again, taking in everything.

"My name is Jeff by the way." The boy stated.

"Im Kurt."

Suddenly, a bell rings, indicating that its time to go to class.

"Ill see you around." Jeff said.

"Okay." I replied before making my way to my first class, English.

When I got to the classroom, I sat down in a seat. I set my book bag on the ground next to my desk, then I pulled out my phone. I saw a text from my stepbrother, Finn.

Good luck at your new school. Wish you were here at McKinley.

I sighed. I wish I could be at McKinley too, but there was no way I could ever go back to that school. I noticed people had already started to file into the classroom. I decided to type a quick text back.

I know, but you know I cant. Ill see you after school.

I shoved my phone back in my pocket right before I noticed a boy staring at me. He had dark curly hair, slicked back with hair gel, and tan skin. I looked behind me to make sure he wasnt staring at something behind me. I looked back to him. He was definitely staring at me. I offered him a small smile. He smiled back. He had a set of brilliant teeth.

Class started. The teacher made her way to the front of the room and I zoned out. All teachers ever did on the first day was stand at the front of the room and talk about themselves.

Before I knew it, class was over. As I made my way to my next class, I noticed a piece of paper on a bulletin board. It was a sign up sheet for a choir group. It read: sign up for the warblers. Auditions will be held in the auditorium after school.

I went to the paper and signed my name in one of the slots. The rest of the day went by fast. It was after school and I was on my way to the auditorium. When I got there, I noticed that some people were here early. I scanned the room to see if I recognized anyone. I noticed Jeff was here. He was talking to a guy who was slightly shorter than him with dark, wavy hair. I continued to scan the room until I noticed someone.

The guy from my English class was here. He noticed me and started walking to me.

"Hey, I wanted to introduce myself earlier, but you kinda just took off before I got the chance. My names Blaine." He said.

"Kurt." I said.

"So, where are you from?" Blaine questioned.

"I transferred here from McKinley High." I stated.

"Isnt that in Lima?" I nodded. "What brought you to Dalton?"

"Lets just say there were some... Complications at my other school."

He nodded, not pressing the subject, which I was thankful for.

"So, do you have a song in your back pocket?" He asked, changing the subject. I thought for a second about what I could sing.

"Yeah." I replied.

"Cant wait to hear it." He said. "I think the auditions are about to start."

Blaine grabbed my hand and pulled me over to a seat. I felt electricity at his touch. He let go of my hand and the electricity was gone.

Three guys walked into the auditorium.

"Thank you all for coming." One of the guys said. "My name is Wes. This is David and Thad."

He gestured to the other two guys beside him as he said their names. He lifted a piece of paper to read the first name.

"First up: Blaine Anderson." Wes said.

Blaine stood and walked to the stage. A few notes played before he started to sing.

"How was that?" Blaine asked me when he got back to his seat.

"That was amazing!" I exclaimed. "But, why Katy Perry?"

"Shes a guilty pleasure of mine." He shrugged.

A few more people auditioned before it was my turn. I walked up to the stage.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night. Take these broken wings and learn to fly. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to arise.
Blackbird singing in the dead of night. Take these sunken eyes and learn to see. All your life, you were only waiting for this moment to be free.
Blackbird fly. Blackbird fly. Into the light of the dark black night.

You were only waiting for this moment to arise.
You were only waiting for this moment to arise.

Blaine was speechless as I sat down.

The auditions drew to a close. I picked up my book bag and slung it over my shoulder as I walked out of the auditorium.

"Hey, wait up." Someone called.

It was Blaine.

"Do you wanna go get coffee?" He asked.

"Sure." I said. "I know this awesome coffee shop in Lima. Its called the Lima Bean."

I pulled out my phone to text my dad where I was.

Im going to the Lima Bean with a friend. Ill be home before dinner.

I put my phone back in my pocket and Blaine and I walked out to the parking lot.
