Kurt and Blaine first met in first grade. Some of the other kids were making fun of Kurt when Blaine stepped in. Kurt immediately fell in love with the curly haired boy that defended him. It only took a few days for Blaine to fall in love with Kurt, though he wasn't aware of it. Blaine didn't even know he was gay until he was in the ninth grade.
One day when Kurt was over at Blaine's house for dinner, he suddenly stopped in the hall way, turning to face Blaine. He looked into his eyes and said, "You have beautiful eyes, Blaine," Then proceeded to walk down the stairs.
Blaine stared at Kurt's back in shock for a moment before following him. He didn't understand what was so great about his eyes. They were only hazel, common and boring. Kurt, on the other hand, had beautiful glasz eyes that never seemed to stay one color. Kurt continued telling Blaine how much he loved his eyes as they progressed through high school, always at the most random of times. Sometimes it was in the choir room, when they were pretending to listen to Rachel rant about how she should get more solos. Kurt would lean over and whisper it in his ear. It sent shivers down his back every time.
Once, it was at a sleepover with Rachel, Mercedes, and Tina. He whispered it in Blaine's ear, once again sending shivers down his back. Sometimes it was at dinner, their daily coffee date, french class. Blaine's favorite was in french. Kurt would say the words in in a perfect french, complete with a flawless accent.
A week prior to Blaine's performance at Six Flags he asked Kurt to come by and practice with him. Kurt, of course, agreed. Blaine was just starting his warm-ups when his phone started ringing. He picked it up, glancing at the screen.
Burt.
"Hello?"
"Blaine! You have to get down here to the Lima Bean. Kurt was in an accident," Burt replied, voice cracking towards the end.
"Oh god," he said, dropping his phone and rushing to his car.
He broke the speed limit three times, and almost crashed twice, but he got there. And the sight before him made his stomach drop. Kurt was on the ground, next to a heap of twisted metal. He looked pale and lifeless, his limbs twisted at odd angles. Blaine ran to Kurt's side, opposite of Burt.
"Kurt? Kurt, wake up! I'm so sorry, I shouldn't of bothered you. Please wake up, I'm so sorry, Kurt!"
They both drove to the hospital, as fast as the ambulance would let them. Kurt was immediately rushed into surgery, while Blaine and Burt sat in the waiting room, anxiously waiting for the doctor to come out and inform them of what was going on. Blaine felt horrible. It was all his fault that Kurt was hurt. If he would have just practiced by himself, they'd both be fine. Eventually, after an hour or so, a doctor came out.
"Kurt will be fine. He's sleeping right now. Sir, when Mr. Hummel was in the wreck, his head was pretty beat up. When he wakes up, he might forget some things... a lot of things. In some cases the patient...basically erases whole years of their lives. Now, that might not be the case with Kurt. He could forget certain months, or certain aspects of their lives. Like, deceased relatives, new family members, breaking up or getting together with a person. It all depends on the patient."
"So, do you mean- Is he going to remember his mother's death?" Burt asked, nearly frantic.
"She died around 10 years ago, right? He'll most likely remember," The doctor answered.
While Burt was relieved, Blaine was not. Kurt and he had only started dating a few months ago. Would he forget it?
"So, he won't remember that he started dating me? Will he remember me at all? We've been friends since kindergarten, he can't forget me!" Blaine was frantic.
"Well, it's a possibility. Or he could just forget you for a certain amount of time. He could remember you in four days...or four years. You can go in and see him if you'd like, one person at a time though."
Burt, of course, went first. Kurt wasn't awake so Burt merely sat there, staring at his poor, broken son. Eventually he realized he shouldn't torture Blaine any longer. He walked out, nodding to Blaine as he headed back into the waiting room.
Blaine took a deep breath as he stepped into Kurt's room. His eyes found Kurt's tiny figure on the bed. He looked so fragile, hooked up to all of those monitors. He said down heavily on the chair next to the bad and grabbed Kurt's hand, staring down at it.
"I don't know who you are, but you have beautiful eyes."
