“Disappear,” said Blaine flatly, not sounding very impressed with the arrangement. Kurt felt bad about it, but he didn't know for sure if he was the only one who could see Blaine and the last thing he wanted to do was freak out his friends during their Twilight marathon.
“Blaine, please don’t be mad at me,” Kurt said, realising how much he hated it when his friend was upset. “I don’t want things to be like this, but I know I was scared out of my mind when I first saw you and I don’t want my friends to freak out.”
“If you remember correctly, you got over your fright and now we’re friends. I don’t see why it can’t be the same now.”
Kurt sighed and sat down heavily next to Blaine on the bed.
“I will introduce you eventually, but tonight I just want to have a movie marathon with my girlfriends. Can I have that? I mean, you can watch with us if you’re quiet. Just… please?”
“Fine,” said Blaine. They were quiet for a while before Blaine spoke again. “I just hate this whole thing. I hate that you’re real and I’m just half-real. I hate existing but not really existing at all.”
“I hate it too,” said Kurt. “I want more than anything to be able to take you to the movies for real and to introduce you to my friends and family as my friend, Blaine from school and to invite you to my stupid Twilight marathon, but we’re going to have to learn to cope like this.”
“I’m sorry, Kurt,” said Blaine, sounding ashamed. “I’m just angry about how unfair all of this is.”
“Hey, don’t think that way,” said Kurt, comfortingly. “Think about it like this - if you weren't dead, we probably would ever have met.”
“This is true,” said Blaine with a smile. The sound of the doorbell echoed up the stairs and the smile faded a little. “Okay, disappearing. Kind of.”
“You’re the best!” said Kurt with a grin, rushing for the door.
“Yeah, yeah, don’t remind me,” Blaine said, rolling his eyes.
Kurt reached the front door and found Rachel and Mercedes standing on the porch with snacks and their overnight bags. He welcomed them in, went to the kitchen to put the snacks in bowls and then carried it all up to his room on a tray. Mercedes and Rachel took turns changing into their pajamas, all the while arguing about the concept of being ‘team Jacob’ or ‘team Edward’ and whether or not it mattered. Kurt didn't think that it did (but he was definitely team Jacob).
“Kurt, your room has a weird feel to it,” said Rachel as Kurt loaded the first movie into his DVD player. Mercedes looked at her as if she were crazy.
“How so?” Kurt asked, intrigued. Did she sense Blaine?
“I don’t know if I've ever told you this, but I’m slightly psychic and your room has a weird feel to it. Almost like there’s someone else here.”
Kurt wasn’t sure if this was just Rachel being Rachel or if he legitmitely wasn’t alone in this. He didn’t have enough experience to tell. But this wasn’t the time to be worrying about it. Now was the time for Pattinsons and Lautners.
Kurt had a love/hate relationship with the Twilight franchise, in as much as he hated the storyline but loved Taylor’s abs. It did mean he ended up watching all of the movies, but when alone he’d skip to all the parts where Jacob was shirtless and well… he was alone, so things could happen. Except apparently not anymore because he now shared a room with the nosiest ghost in all of Limbo.
When Mercedes and Rachel tiptoed downstairs to get more soda after ‘New Moon’, Kurt took the opportunity to talk to Blaine.
“Oh Kurt, it’s so beautiful,” he said with eyes sparkling. “He broke up with her just to protect her.”
Kurt fought hard not to laugh.
“Are you surviving the invisibility?” Kurt asked instead, as Blaine sat down next to him on the bed.
“Yeah, it’s not so bad. The movies are good and your friends are awesome.”
“I knew you’d like them,” said Kurt with a smile, not sure why it made him so happy that Blaine approved of his friends.
Before either of them had a chance to do anything else, Kurt’s door slammed open and Rachel came in.
“Kurt, Mercedes and I just realised we forgot to ask if you wanted something and - Oh! Who’s this? Where did he…”
Rachel screamed when she realised what was going on - when she realised that she could see Kurt through the other boy. Kurt quickly jumped and stifled her scream with one of his throw pillows.
“Rachel, I’ll explain in a moment, but you have to promise not to scream again. Can you do that?”
Rachel nodded, eyes still wide with fright, and Kurt lowered the cushion.
“You see me?” asked Blaine with a grin. Rachel nodded again, scared seemingly speechless. “This is great! So far it’s only been Kurt and while he’s been amazing it’s so nice to have other company.”
“Gee, thanks,” said Kurt rolling his eyes and Blaine gave him an apologetic smile. “Rachel, meet Blaine, the most ungracious ghost I’ve ever met.”
“The pleasure is all mine, I assure you,” said Blaine with a smile. “I’d shake your and, but I bet you’d see right through that.”
Rachel laughed nervously and Kurt grew anxious. He didn’t want Rachel to think he was crazy or anything.
“Blaine sort of came with the room,” Kurt explained. “I know it’s weird and I’m still getting used to it, but Blaine an amazing guy whose only problem is that he’s dead.”
“It is rather inconvenient,” Blaine agreed, with a serious nod.
“So you’re really a ghost?” asked Rachel, finding her voice again.
“As far as I’m aware,” said Blaine with a smile and Rachel smiled back.
It was just then that Mercedes arrived, clutching three cans of soda and wearing a dangerous frown.
“God, did someone die up here or is this where the Bermuda Triangle comes for vacation?” asked Mercedes, her eyes glaring from Rachel to Kurt. It would seem that she didn’t notice Blaine at all.
“Mercedes, I’m so sorry,” said Rachel, apologetically. “I was going to come back down again when I saw -“
Kurt tried as indiscreetly as he could to step on Rachel’s foot. The gesture didn’t go unnoticed but Mercedes who raised an eyebrow, shook her head and sighed.
“Whatever, Crazies. Now what are we waiting for. I want to get my Eclipse on.”
Kurt and Rachel looked at Blaine who also shrugged.
“To be fair,I too wish to get my Eclipse on,” he said, matter-of-factly and Kurt had to stifle a chuckle.
Now that Rachel knew, Kurt realised what a burden the secret had been. It was a relief to know that Kurt wasn’t going insane and the at he would have someone to whom he could talk about things. It saddened him that Mercedes couldn’t see him too, but he guess it was just one of those things.
Later on that night, when Rachel and Mercedes had fallen asleep, Kurt stayed up talking things through with Blaine.
“It’s a good thing she knows,” said Kurt.
“Yeah, she seems like fun,” Blaine said with a smile.
“No, but seriously,” Kurt dropping his head. He hadn’t discussed this with Blaine yet and he wasn’t sure how it would go. “She could help me.”
“With what?” asked Blaine curiously. When Kurt remained silent, Blaine repeated in a more serious tone. “With what, Kurt?”
“Blaine, you’re not happy here,” said Kurt, putting up a hand to silence Blaine when he tried to protest. “You can argue all you want, but I know it’s true. You aren't meant to be at peace here. As much as it kills me to actually say this - you have unfinished business and we need to work out what it is so that you can actually move on.”
“I found my peace when you moved in, Kurt,” said Blaine miserably.
“Not compete peace,” said Kurt. “And that’s what you deserve, Blaine. Please don’t let our friendship get in the way of that. I’m not worth it.”
Blaine stared blankly at the foot of Kurt’s bed and Kurt lay back down on the pillow.
“I need to sleep. We can talk more about it tomorrow.”
As Kurt started drifting off - and there was a very strong possibility he imagined it - he swore he heard Blaine whisper, “You’re worth everything, Kurt.”
Kurt’s dreams were troubled that night.
