Author's Notes: OMG, I feel horrible for abandoning this story, when it's my best one! I'm continuing it right now! WOO!
“I’m sorry, I chose my family,” Blaine said before stepping out of Kurt’s life. Kurt couldn’t gather his thoughts at the moment to say anything so he just remained silent, until Blaine left. The minute Blaine left, Kurt broke down. Why wouldn’t Blaine’s parents just understand that Blaine was gay, and that was that? He was willing to run away with Blaine; escape from the world. New York had just legalized gay marriage, maybe they could elope there? But Kurt knew that only happened in Broadway musicals and that it was not very realistic; but it was the way Blaine felt against his fingertips that made him believe that they had a chance together. That it wasn’t just a high school fling but the real thing, but that was over now. Blaine chose his family, and not his heart. And boy was Kurt’s hurting right now.
“You’re not sending in your NYADA application?” Rachel practically screeched the next day. He nodded before saying, “I’m going to co-own Hummel Tire and Lube.” Rachel looked down at what he was wearing; a plaid button up shirt, faded jeans and hiking boots. “Oh yeah, and I’m quitting glee club,” he added, using his unnatural lower voice, and walked off, leaving Rachel speechless.
In Glee Club, Blaine sat next to the new girl, and they talked quietly to each other, not realizing that everyone was staring at them intently. Finn was extremely angry with Blaine, and he knew that that new girl was Blaine’s “girlfriend”. Finn looked at her, wondering what Blaine saw in her and not his stepbrother. Kurt was one of the nicest people Finn had ever met, and on the day they’re parents got married, he vowed to protect his brother in any way he could; seeing Blaine with that girl made him feel like he was letting Kurt down. He had to do something; something that would make Blaine pay for Kurt’s heartache.
Five Years Later
Kurt still dreamed of the day when Finn kicked Blaine’s ass. Kurt couldn’t feel any emotion at the moment. He didn’t know whether to help him, for he still loved Blaine dearly, or to be thankful to Finn, being the good step brother he was. He had the reoccurring dream at least once every two weeks for the past five years. The last five years had been hell.
Kurt had never had another boyfriend. He just couldn’t find himself to another soul. He had been to Scandals a couple of times, but all he could remember was dancing with Blaine and how alive he felt being next to him, dancing with him. Kurt remembered that day well; although he did get into a fight with Blaine right afterwards, but he remembered it as something that had strengthened their relationship well; the relationship that hadn’t lasted forever.
Kurt regretted everything he had done in those five years. He regretted not living his life to the fullest; he regretted all of those hideous clothes, but overall, he regretted giving up every single dream he had. He hated himself for not going to Broadway or NYADA. He envied Rachel for being successful on Broadway without him. He hated working with cars. He found he was good at it, but it was so not enjoyable, and it just wasn’t his calling.
It wasn’t until Kurt was in the car that he was able to enjoy himself. He’d pop his Wicked CD into the CD player, and listen to Idina’s beautiful voice. He’d always sing along, and whenever he belt a high note out, he knew that was what he had to be doing. But, the only audience he had was his steering wheel.
Kurt was sleeping in his apartment above the car shop when he heard his phone ring beside him on his bedside table. He looked at the number, not recognizing it. He picked it up, held it against his ear and mumbled a quick “hello?” He could hear the other person’s breathing stop forever, before he heard “Kurt?”
The minute he heard the voice speak, he knew exactly who it was. He knew it was his lost love, Blaine Anderson. Kurt remembered all of those high school feelings he had felt; the way Blaine had made his heart swell. Kurt could feel the tips of his fingers tingle a bit, remembering the feelings Blaine had left on them. “Blaine?” he audibly breathed out.
He talked to Blaine for what felt like hours when in reality it was only for minutes. Kurt cherished each and every one of those seconds he spend talking to Blaine that early morning. Kurt had forgotten he was tired; really just forgot everything in the world that was going on and just concentrated on Blaine. It was all he could do for those minutes.
When Blaine hung up, Kurt smiled to himself, knowing that he would be talking to Blaine once again soon enough.
End Notes: I know it's a bit shorter, but I hope you loved it!
