In New York at the apartment
Kurt was up getting ready for work while Rachel was doing her morning bathroom ritual. He quickly fixed breakfast for the both of them and sent some emails to his boss as well.
Kurt was finishing up a few things on his outfit when his cell phone started ringing. His hand paused above the cuff on his sleeve. He looked at himself in the mirror. He knew who it was and couldn't bring himself to answer it.
He thought that maybe it was the separation that was causing Blaine to be emotional that night; but of course, he thought back to the night Blaine made his confession and what stood out the most to him.
“It doesn't matter WHO it was with Kurt! I needed you. I needed you around…and you weren't there...”
The ringing stopped.
When Kurt focused back on the mirror he saw Rachel standing outside the makeshift wall, watching him.
“Are you okay?” She asked.
Kurt was still angry, hurt and sad. Most of it was the fact that he felt betrayed. He loved Blaine. If he was completely honest with himself, he still does. Yet he didn't want to get into that with Rachel right now.
He gave her small smile.
“Why wouldn't I be…we’re in New York, the city that never sleeps. Living the dream we hoped for right?” He looked down and continued with his cuff.
Then turned to Rachel and looked her over.
“So…how are things with you and….” He tilted his head to the side. She rolled her eyes and walked off.
“What do you want me to say?”
“Did you find him?” Kurt asked.
“Of course I found him. He was at the school. Your brother had me driving all over Lima searching for him and all the time, when he could have simply picked up the phone and tell me where he was; he was at school on the stage trying to find himself!”
Rachel sat down at the table and started picking over her breakfast.
Kurt went over and sat down across from her.
“….and?” he asked.
She looked over at him.
She continued to pick at her food, and then set her fork to the side and looked at Kurt.
“I told him we were done.” She wiped a tear away and continued to tell him what happened. Kurt listened with a heavy heart.
When Rachel finished he sat back in his chair, while she continued to sniffle and wipe away tears.
“Are you mad at me?” Rachel asked. Kurt looked at her with an incredulous look on his face.
“Why would I be?” Kurt sat forward
“Rachel ...listen to me ...there are many things that I admire about you. Your loyalty, your dedication, your strength and you know what you want for yourself and you are not afraid to go after it.” He took Rachel’s hand in his and smiled.
“Yes…Finn is my brother and I love him very much but it’s obvious he doesn't know what he wants out of his life right now.”
Kurt stopped for a second to contemplate that thought then said, “I don’t know if he ever will and him being upset with you kissing Brody? What did he expect? The guy is hot.”
Kurt got up and started putting some of the food away. ”To resist that would be complete madness.”
Rachel slowly shook her head and started laughing.
In Lima,Ohio at McKinley High
Blaine was sitting on the back row next to Sam who was doing an impersonation of Bill Clinton while Artie, Joe and Jake were cracking up. As much as he would like to joke around with the guys he was feeling lost and rejected by Kurt.
He still wasn't returning his calls, emails or text. He didn't know what more he could do to get Kurt to talk him. He felt terrible for what he did and wished more than anything that it never happened, but the damage was done and he wanted to focus on fixing it. He wanted Kurt to forgive him and …if Kurt decides to break up with him…he wanted his best friend back.
Blaine looked over at the case that held their national trophy. It was empty.
Sam noticed Blaine wasn't mingling. So he scooted over towards him.
“Hey was sup, Cyclops?” Sam said jokingly. He pushed at Blaine’s shoulder.
Blaine looked over at him.
“We talked about this. I am Wolverine…NOT Cyclops.” He retorted with sarcasm.
Sam shook his head and before he could get into a debate with Blaine, Mr. Schuster came into the classroom.
“Alright everyone! Listen up…we have the list of who we are competing against at sectionals. Now we have to pick the songs and decide who is going to be our lead soloist _..” Before he could finish Wade put his hand in the air.
“Unique has no problem leading the Glee Club to Nationals with her FABULOUSNESS.” Wade blinked his eyes dramatically then tossed his hair and looked at Tina, daring her to disagree.
Tina gave Wade the stink eye then hissed at him.
Brittany raised her hand.
Mr. Schuster pinched the ridge of his nose.
“Yes Brittany.”
“Mr. Schue, Where does an Irish go on Vacation?”
“A different bar” Artie mumbled under his breath.
“Dude, I heard that! That is discriminating and you’re a cripple!” Jake said.
The Glee Club suddenly exploded into an argument and for a minute Mr. Schuster watched them.
“ENOUGH!!!” He yelled. The class was suddenly silent.
“You guys are not taking this seriously! We are up against two schools that are well known. We have a responsibility in keeping our Glee Club at the top with them and in order to stay that way we have to start practicing. We need to start figuring out our songs.
Blaine stood up and collected his backpack. He slowly made his way to the head of the class.
“When I was at Dalton we practice every day as if competition was tomorrow. It didn't matter what time of day it was. It was important to be ready for whoever we were going up against.”
He looked at each student.
“I’m telling you this because some of you have been through this and know what we’re supposed to be doing and you know what we are up against. The new students have NO idea.”
Blaine paced in front of the class for a second and then walked over and stood in front of the case.
“Right now those two schools has already put together a set list for sectionals AND regionals. They can probably do the routine in their sleep. Here we are sitting here bickering amongst ourselves….no set list….no routine.”
Blaine stepped to the side of the case “Tell me something ...did anyone else, besides myself, notice that our National Trophy is missing?”
