"Good morning, New York City. It's a beautiful seventy-four degrees this morning so pull out those flip flops because--"

Kurt cut off the overly cheerful voice coming from his radio because, just no. And anyone who even suggested wearing flip-flops out in public was seriously mistaken and insane. With a sleepy groan he sat up, rubbing his eyes and blinking against the morning sun peeking into his room. He slowly shuffled toward the window, pulling the blinds open and peering out, taking a long look at the city below.

"KUUURT!!"

Kurt groaned once again, but for an entirely different reason. He turned around slowly, leaning against the window to find Rachel running into his room. She was already dolled up, hair perfect, make up beautiful and clothes pressed, not a single wrinkle in sight.

"Kurt, Kurt!" she squealed.

"Rachel," Kurt replied half-heartedly, still not fully awake.

"Today's the day!" she said, bouncing up and down, clapping her hands together. "It's finally here!"

"What's finally here?" Kurt asked, rubbing both hands over his face as he walked past her and into the bathroom. Maybe a bit of cold water on his face will wake him.

"Audrey is sick!" she squeaked, following Kurt into the bathroom.

Kurt turned the water on and glanced back at Rachel. He ducked down to splash some water on his face and rubbed his hands over it as Rachel gasped.

"Audrey plays Velma K--"

"Rachel, I know who Audrey is--" And then he paused, turning to look at Rachel eyes wide and face dripping. "Wait. So…"

"I'm going on this afternoon!" Rachel squealed. "I'm going to be playing Velma Kelly today!"

"Oh my god!" Kurt gasped.

"You have to come see me! I've got free tickets!"

Somehow, Kurt almost found himself running late that afternoon, however. Things had become a little more hectic at work. His two best interns had finished their term and had already gone back home. Kurt had a soft spot for them because they reminded him so much of younger versions of him.

Kurt had started his career at Vogue.com as an intern. Of course, he thought that by now he would had been working as a Broadway costume designer, but he soon learned that things didn't simply fall into his lap as quickly as he might have wanted them to.

Kurt Hummel was a twenty-three year old man working for a very reputable magazine. The best magazine in the world, actually. That was a hell of a lot more than most guys his age could say. He was an editor for Vogue, for crying out loud. Maybe it wasn't exactly what he had planned, but it was so much more than he could have ever asked for.

He was so caught up in his work that afternoon that he lost track of time and had to practically run out of his office. Somehow he managed to make it to the show on time, taking his seat just as the lights began to dim.

Rachel was spectacular, of course. She was pitch perfect and her dancing was phenomenal. Kurt found himself grinning almost through the entire first act. Once it was time for intermission, Kurt decided to grab a snack since he had decidedly skipped lunch that afternoon.

As he stood in line his phone buzzed in his hand and he glanced at it, laughing quietly at the message from Rachel.

What did you think? Was I not amazing?!!!

"Next please," called the woman at the counter. Kurt quickly ordered a small glass of soda along with a cheese plate. Once he paid the woman and gathered his food, Kurt's phone buzzed with another message. As he turned, he glanced down at his phone, but before he could read the message, he was crashing into someone, spilling his drink on their, oh god, crisp white dress shirt. Kurt glanced up, eyes wide and panicked. "Oh my god," he gasped and he stepped back, watching as the man glanced down at his ruined shirt.

"I promise I'll pay for it," Kurt stuttered. "I'm sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going."

"It's fine," the man said with a smile, looking up at Kurt and, okay, he had really pretty honey-hazel eyes.

"No, no, it's not. I just ruined your incredibly expensive looking shirt." Kurt fished into his pocket. "I think I have some…tide-to-go or something." He set his cheese plate and half empty cup aside as he reached into his other pocket.

"It's ok," said the man, laughing softly as he watched Kurt search through his jacket. "Don't worry about it. I can just wash it off in the bathroom, it'll come right off. It's a small stain."

"I found it," Kurt said triumphantly, ignoring the man's words. "Here," he said, handing the little stick to the man. "You can keep it. I have, like, twenty of them at home."

"Thanks," the man chuckled, uncapping the little stick and dabbing it at his shirt.

"What were you going to buy?" Kurt asked.

"What?" the man asked, blinking up at Kurt.

"You were in line, so you were going to get something to eat."

"It's fine. Really."

"I won't take no for an answer," Kurt said with an arch of his brow.

"Um." The man shifted a little, glancing up at the small menu at the stand. "Just a brownie."

"Brownie it is then," Kurt said turning and pulling out his wallet.

Within the next fifteen minutes, Kurt learned that the man was here alone and that his name was Blaine. Kurt told Blaine that he was here to see his best friend who was playing Velma Kelly.

When the lights began flashing, signaling that it was time to take their seats Kurt smiled at Blaine, offering his hand to shake. "It was lovely meeting you, Blaine," he said.

"Likewise," Blaine said with a bright smile.

"Tell you what," Kurt said before Blaine could go. He reached into his wallet and pulled out his business card. "If you're ever interested in seeing another show any time soon, let me know." Blaine took the card from him. "Rachel gets free passes all the time."

Blaine's eyebrows shot up. "Wow," he said with a smile. "That's--That would be amazing, thank you, Kurt."

"It's my pleasure," Kurt said before they said good-bye once again and parted ways.

----

Kurt didn't hear from Blaine for the rest of the week. Maybe it was a little silly expecting some random guy he met at the theater to call him and ask for the free tickets Kurt had offered. He made sure he didn't get his hopes up, though and somehow by Monday, he practically forgot about Blaine.

"You see," Rachel said as they sat down on their yoga mats in the middle of central park, "it's just like in the movie Brides Maids." Kurt took his seat next to her and looked off into the distance where the yoga instructor was walking around her group of students, telling them to move into the next position.

"Yeah, but didn't the instructor yell at them in the movie?" Kurt asked as he moved into the Lotus Pose along with Rachel.

Rachel shrugged. "We can only hope for the best."

"Hey! Those people are free loading!" one of the students called suddenly pointing at them.

"I told you!" Kurt snapped at Rachel as they quickly stumbled to their feet and gathered their belongings.

"You guys are so cheap!" yelled another student angrily as Kurt and Rachel giggled, practically tripping over each other as they ran off. Once they were far enough, they slowed to a walk and Rachel spoke up when she managed to catch her breath.

"What ever happened to that guy you met at the show last week? Blaine?"

Kurt shrugged. "He never called."

"I'm telling you, you need to be more aggressive, Kurt," Rachel sighed.

"Yeah? Just like I should mooch off of those yoga classes and not get caught?" Kurt supplied with a small grin as Rachel elbowed his side. "But seriously, I'll probably never hear from the guy again. He probably lost the card or forgot about me."

"Kurt?"

And suddenly, Kurt was turning around to find Blaine standing a few feet behind him in a pair of sweat pants and a t-shirt. Attached to a leash in his hand was an adorable Boston Terrier. There was that gorgeous smile Kurt didn’t realize he had missed so much.

"Or not," Kurt muttered quietly.

This was really good. I love the friendship between Kurt and Rachel and found the yoga class part of the chapter to be really funny and definitely something I could picture the characters doing. I found Kurt and Blaine interaction to be cute and I for some reason love that Blaine has a dog. I can't wait to see where this story goes from here.
