Sorry I ended this chapter the same way as the last chapter, but I didn't want to exceed the average word count in my chapters. Again, thanks for reading! Please tell me what you think, your reviews give me some motivation to get writing done!! :)
Kurt climbed the steps to his apartment tiredly but happily, thinking back on how good that day had been. Blaine loved him. He shook his head. Boy, have things escalated quickly. Kurt decided to leave Blaines house after they finished their coffee, remembering that he had a life but promising Blaine hed see him at the first rehearsal which was a week from Monday. He sighed and ran his hand through his hair, reaching his door and pushing it open.
He walked inside and stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Rachel and Santana sitting on the couch, both with pointed expressions and arms crossed over their chests. He looked behind him in confusion, not knowing whether they were looking at him or not. When he saw no one in the immediate vicinity he turned back around, eyebrows furrowed.
"Hey," Kurt tried, skeptically and cautiously slugging over to the sofa chair to sit down.
"Hey?" Rachel questioned incredulously. "Hey?! You disappear for a week without uttering a single word to us except to introduce your new "friend" and all you have to say is hey?!"
Rachel uncrossed her arms and was waving them frantically in the air. In fear of the possibility that Rachel might hit something, he raised his hands as if he were taming a wild beast. He didnt know what had gotten Rachel so worked up and seen as though Santana wasnt doing anything about it, she must be feeling the same way. But why?
"Rachel, you know Ive been busy with the show," he sighed and stood up, choosing to sit in between his high school friends. "Is this about Steph?"
Kurt had his suspicions about the way they acted when he introduced Steph to them, but he shook off that prediction thinking that Rachel and Santana were above jealousy and snark, but now.. he wasnt so sure. Rachel deflated a little bit at the mention of Kurts new friend and sat back against the couch, looking down at her hands.
"It is, isnt it?" Kurt asked, afraid of the answer. He turned to Santana who looked less beaten up about it than Rachel but still had a dim look to her eyes.
"Guys, you dont have to worry about me ditching you. Ive known you girls since Glee club and no ones going to ruin that. Steph is one of my friends now. Shes quickly becoming one of my best friends and I just want you guys to get along. Are you really jealous of one girl that Ive known for a week?" Kurt inquired, looking from Rachel to Santana slowly.
"Listen Hummel, Ive seen you pushed around the ring too many times to count. If I see that one more time, someones getting hurt, do you understand me?" Santanas expression was the softest Kurts ever seen, eyes sparkling sadly.
"Steph wont hurt me. Shes been through a lot, too. I wouldnt be too worried about her coming at me like Karofsky and Azimio," Kurt managed a small chuckle, but turned to the small brunette to his other side, concern dripping through him.
"What about you, Rachel? Whats going on?" Rachels eyes flickered up to his and back down to her hands where she was twiddling her thumbs idly. Kurts had never seen her so quiet. Seriously, she was always talking.
"Give me some time to get used to it. I know I cant keep you all to myself no matter how much I want us to highlight Broadway together, but I still need some time to accept the way things are," Rachels quiet voice infiltrated the silence and Kurt felt a little part of his heart chipping off. Kurt will never forget their high school misadventures, the times where nothing mattered except getting onto a New York stage hand-in-hand.
"Dont worry, Rach. As soon as were both done with our respective shows, well audition for something together. Sound good?" Kurt asked, bringing his hand up to squeeze her shoulder affectionately. Rachel looked up, a small smile playing on her lips.
"That sounds perfect," Rachel replied, already looking better than before. Kurt smiled and got up, walking to his room.
"Well, Isabelle gave me this last week off, so I should probably get my portfolio together for Monday if I want to keep my job," Kurt sighed exasperatedly, running his hand through his hair. He was almost through the separating curtain when-
"Hey, Kurt!" Rachel was out of her seat and reaching for him with one hand. Kurt turned around in confusion.
"Yes, Rachel?" Rachel stood there quietly for a moment, shyness overcoming her once more.
"Why dont you.. I mean.. I think itd be cool if.. Shouldnt you..-"
"She wants you to invite that Steph girl over for dinner," Santanas impatient voice interrupted. Kurts head snapped to Santana and back to Rachel, who was gaping like a fish out of water.
"I mean, you dont have to! But I mean its cool that she got Janet, right?"
Kurt almost completely forgot about that, smiling at the mention of it. Then his smile faltered because he completely forgot to tell Rachel and Santana about it.
"Oh my God. I didnt tell you guys, did I? Im so sorry, it completely slipped my mind.." Kurt trailed off, walking over to Rachel and hugging her on impulse. Rachel was shaking in his arms, and he really wanted to smack himself right now. He pulled away, and her eyes were watering but not from sadness.
"R-Rachel, why are you laughing?" Kurt asked. She was almost completely doubled over, sobbing out shrills of laughter.
"You- you should have s- seen your face!" Rachel said on the verge of hysteria. "I'm so sorry, it completely slipped my mind."
Rachel was basically on the floor as she gripped the sofa chair in front of her. Kurt wore a stone-faced deadpan and Santana snorted in the background, picking up a magazine and flipping through it.
I really need to get more magazines, Kurt noted. Santanas probably read that one fifteen times by now.
"Okay, okay, Rachel. Hows next Friday? Should we have dinner then?" Kurt asked, breaking Rachel from her laugh attack. Rachel stood upright and put a hand to her heart, calming her breaths.
"Yes, yes thats perfect. Text her and tell her to be here at 7 pm next Friday night," Rachel said. Kurt nodded and made his exit when Rachel stopped him once more. Kurt turned around rather impatiently and put his hands on his hips.
"Yes?"
Rachel walked up to him and wrapped her arms around Kurts middle. Her head was pressed against his heart when he heard her mumbling something.
"Im sorry, what did you say?" Kurt asked, bringing his arms to envelop Rachel in a hug. She pulled away to look up at him.
"I said that Im proud of you. You finally made it in the big leagues," Rachel said. Kurts eyes softened and he bent down to envelop her some more, kissing her forehead.
"Thanks, Rach."
Santana scoffed again from her seat and Kurt rolled his eyes.
"You can at least be a little happy for me, Santana," Kurt said, narrowing his eyes playfully in her direction.
"I am, Lady Hips. Very happy. Just dont get too comfortable. Auntie Snix is about to lap you in the Big Apple," Santana said conceitedly, not looking up from the pages. Kurt rolled his eyes and squeezed Rachel one more time before pulling away.
"I cant wait for that day to come, Santana," Kurt threw over his shoulder as he walked into his room.
ooOoo
A few days had passed and Kurt was feeling the after effects of not seeing Blaine constantly. Something pulled on his tummy every time he thought about the dark haired man, and Kurt couldnt understand why. The intense need to see his Dom was gaining more prevalence with each passing day and Kurt found that he couldnt eat, could barely sleep, and he felt ill at a consistent rate. He determined that if things went along like this, he could resort to self harm to take his focus off of his absent lover.
As he lay in bed on Tuesday night, cold air blowing in from the open window, he let his mind wander to the whole Dom/sub aspect of his and Blaines relationship. He thought before that it was just coincidence that Blaine had known exactly what Kurt had wanted that night at the bar when he knelt before him, but now an instinctual feeling overwhelmed him, and he wondered if it somehow related to that night.
When he was with Blaine, it didnt just feel good, it felt like they were destined to be together. His brain and heart worked together and created a perfect harmony with Blaine. It was almost second nature to him now only after knowing the man for a week. It was mind boggling how one person can turn him into a disorganized, babbling mess within seconds when it took his dad years to get him to open up to him. He shook his head. He needed to know why this felt so right, why he felt this burning need to see Blaine every second of the day. Being apart from him felt like his air was being cut short. Like his lungs were collapsing and he couldnt do anything but stand idly and watch.
Kurt sat up in bed and rubbed his eyes, looking at the digital clock on his dresser. 3:00 am. He groaned and threw his legs over the side of the bed, deciding that sleep was never going to happen. He stood up and walked to the kitchen, grabbing a water bottle from the refrigerator and gulping it down. He stood by the table at a standstill, suddenly suppressing the urge to run out of the house and straight to Blaines house. The door was so close and a taxi was just a call away. He squeezed his eyes shut. No, he couldnt become like this. He couldnt become a needy sub.
He opened his eyes and spotted Rachels pink laptop on the coffee table. He blinked and walked toward it, not knowing why he couldnt just grab his own laptop from his room. He sat down on the couch in front of it, opening the laptop and starting it up. When the login screen popped up he groaned in frustration. He sighed and typed in the first thing that came to his mind: finn. It was incorrect. Kurt groaned again. This time he opened his eyes and typed something else: fanny.
The desktop to her laptop popped up and Kurt chuckled. Rachel always was an easy one. He opened up the browser and clicked on the top search bar, thinking long about what he was trying to search. What did he want to know? His fingers hovered over the black keys when his instinct took the best of him and started typing on its own accord. He pressed enter and looked at the search bar at what he had typed up. Dom/sub instinctual behavior. He sucked in an air of breath. Well, might as well look. He clicked on the first link and it led him to a credible enough looking website, choosing to click on a tab that said Beginners. He read aloud what he found.
"When subs find their Doms and go through the claiming process otherwise known as intercourse, they might find it extremely difficult to be apart from one another for longer than a certain period of time. A Dom/sub relationship thrives on dominance and submission, and it is well known that this balance cannot sustain itself if the Dominant and submissive dont see each other for a given time. Some common physical effects that occur while being apart from your Dom or sub include inability to eat and sleep deprivation. They, especially the subs, will experience unfathomable withdrawals and unexplainable urges to go see their partner constantly. This process is a slight from codependency and is an instinctual aspect of a Dom/sub relationship. Everyone is either a Dominant or a submissive. Some choose to embrace it and some choose to ignore it. Either way, whether theyre a Dom or sub, their behaviors will pertain to their role significantly throughout their life."
Kurt exhaled, feeling dizzy and lightheaded. So this was all on instinct? This want? No... need? The words of the article replayed in his mind over and over again. Everyone is either a Dominant or submissive. It just doesnt make any sense. He sat back against the back of the couch and closed his eyes, inhaling and exhaling slowly, gathering his thoughts.
This changes everything.
He sat back up after a while and cleared the history of the laptop, shutting it down and closing it. He walked back to his room where he snuggled underneath his covers, letting his mind drift to Blaine and how their relationship was so much more than he thought.
Kurt woke up from his restless sleep an hour or so later, hearing his phone buzzing violently on his bedside table. He shouldve figured that he wouldnt get any decent sleep, not with him missing Blaine as much as he did. He rolled over and grabbed his phone, checking the caller ID with glazed eyes.
Blaine.
Kurts heart sped up and he answered immediately, needing to hear the voice of his lover. His Dom.
"Sir?" Kurt asked, holding the phone in a death grip. He could hear deep panting on the other end as if Blaine had been going through whatever this was for awhile.
"S- sir, please talk. Youre scaring me," Kurt whispered, feeling like his heart was about to implode. Blaine growled, and then his voice was filling his ear.
"They cant do this, Kurt. They cant make me," Blaines tone was deep and menacing. It almost intimidated Kurt, but he knew that Blaine wouldnt hurt him.
"Who, sir?" Kurt asked cautiously. The last thing he wanted was to make Blaine mad by saying the wrong thing. He couldnt get him angry while he was apart from him. He cant go through that. Ever.
"Sam and Mark. They cant do it," he was growling relentlessly and Kurt could barely understand him, his voice was so gravely.
"You mean Sam and Mark from the team?"
"Yes!" Blaine screamed impatiently. Kurt flinched. Blaine seemed to immediately sense Kurts discomfort. "Im sorry, my love. I didnt mean to scream," his voice like velvet. Kurt nodded although Blaine couldnt see him.
"Will you please explain what happened? Im worried," Kurt explained. He heard Blaine sigh, but he said nothing, silence hanging in the air.
"Thats it, Im going over there," Kurt said, throwing the covers off of him.
"No, Kurt its dangerous," Blaine said firmly through the phone. Kurt stopped in his tracks. He shut his eyes tightly together.
"But sir-"
"No buts, Kurt. Its dark outside. Im not letting you go out there right now," Blaines voice was soft and gentle but commanding in its motive. Kurt sighed and settled back down against the sheets, holding the phone up to his ear.
"Dont I deserve an explanation, Blaine?" Kurt asked timidly. He didnt want to push but at the same time, he needed to know what was going on.
"Not right now. I just needed to hear your voice," Blaine said hollowly. He sounded sick and worn, his voice traveling weakly. However, the sentiment still affected him, his cheeks heating up.
"Can I come see you later today?" Kurt asked.
"Of course. I should be free at 10. Come over then," Blaine said sweetly. Kurt smiled.
"Get some rest, my love."
"Actually, I.. I havent been getting much sleep lately since weve been apart. Ive missed you too much," Kurt said, looking up at the ceiling blankly.
"Oh, Kurt. Why didnt you tell me?" Blaine sounded concerned, and Kurt felt his heart leap in his chest.
"Because I didnt want to inconvenience you, and it wasnt that bad honestly."
"You can never be an inconvenience, my love," Kurt flushed, closing his eyes and reveling in Blaines silk voice. "In plus, sleep is very important, and you should be getting it."
"Yes, sir."
"Ill see you in a few hours, yeah?" It wasnt a question, it was a command.
"Yes, Blaine. Ill be there." They were silent until Kurt shyly broke the silence.
"I love you, sir," he could almost hear Blaine smiling on the other end.
"I love you, too."
