The first thing Blaine did the next morning was scramble to Kurt's room for his phone charger. When Kurt leaned in for a kiss, Blaine returned it very sloppily and continued searching for the charger.
"Where is it?" He was hissing at himself, opening and slamming every drawer.
"Baby, hey, honey, calm down, stop," Kurt stood up and gently lead Blaine away from the drawers. "You're going to wake up the whole building. What is going on?"
"I... phone... ugh!" Blaine started to pull away from Kurt's grasp but Kurt squeezed him tighter. Blaine could've gotten away, but the way Kurt was holding him just made him melt. His tension eased and Kurt felt it.
"Okay, you need to calm down, sweetie," Kurt slowly led him to the bed and held him close. "Now what's going on? Full descriptions, please. Not just three word out-of-breath panting."
"Angel sent me a text last night, it was something she... she really wanted me to read it and-" Blaine was trying to figure out a way to explain what was going on without lying, but without telling the complete story.
"Wait, about what? Not to be nosy, I mean I know she's lesbian, but... I just get nervous, sorry, this was stupid. You don't have to tell me, I just was being..." Kurt's rambling was interrupted by a kiss from Blaine, who cupped Kurt's chin in one hand and his hair in the other.
"Shh, it's okay. Angel wanted to tell me about this experiment she's been doing. I have no idea what it's about," Blaine used a soothing voice as he tried to skate around the real purpose. "And I can't find my charger. She's going to think I hate her or something, probably."
"Well, it'll be okay," Kurt leaned over into his night stand drawer and retrieved Blaine's charger from under a textbook. "Sorry, I just was studying late last night and got lazy so it got covered up." He handed it to Blaine who kissed his cheek, patted his shoulder, and ran off. Kurt just chuckled and continued to get ready.
About half an hour later, Blaine was sitting on the couch, rubbing his neck nervously and staring at the little bars across the phone's screen. "Blaine, you know how long your phone takes to charge. You're going to have to wait," Kurt ruffled his boyfriend's curls. "Come on, you'll survive."
Blaine's eyes went big and he sulked after Kurt, pouting like a little puppy. Kurt just rolled his eyes and pulled a little at Blaine's argyle vest.
"Kurt, can you believe this?" Blaine was deep into thought while Kurt mindlessly stared at the latest Vogue issue.
"Believe what, honey?" Kurt didn't pay much attention, he just shifted his scarf and licked his thumb so that he could flip another page of the fashion magazine.
Blaine poked him and gestured to the window of the dirty bus. "New York! So long ago we were just two unsure kids running through a church together, being told two separate things and not sure what to believe. Now we're together and," Blaine took Kurt's hand in both of his with an adorable grin, "totally in love."
Kurt leaned over for a kiss and then snuggled into Blaine's shoulder.
"By the way, Kurt, remember we're going to church this Sunday," Blaine stole the abandoned magazine and started flipping through it nonchalantly. "Damn, so many ads in this thing."
"Oh... right... um... okay," Kurt shifted nervously in his seat. He really didn't want to go to church with Blaine, even though they could probably find a more open-minded church in the city. He just wanted to make his boyfriend happy.
"Kurt, are you okay?" Blaine had felt Kurt bump into him when he shifted.
"Yeah... sorry..." Kurt was gazed off into the distance. "It's my stop, gotta go," He kissed Blaine once more and grabbed his bags.
"Hey," Blaine grabbed his hand while others shuffled off the bus, "It's gonna be okay."
Kurt reassured him with a smile and jokingly stole the magazine back before finding his way off the bus.
Blaine sighed. He didn't even want to go to school that day. When he got into the school, he told Alice he was feeling sick and that he was going to go to the nurse.
"Name?" The nurse called in a very monotone voice without even looking up from the computer.
"Blaine Anderson," He said, faking grogginess. He slumped down into a chair.
"Alright, listen kid; this is the 3rd day of school. You just transferred here, you don't have a record at your other schools, but I want to know, what's going on that you want to get out of here so bad?" The nurse flipped around in her chair and began marking something into her daily planner without once looking up at Blaine. The sound of her chomping on her gum disgusted him. No wonder there were no pictures of family in her office.
"I'm sick, that's why I'm in here," Blaine rubbed his eyes, but he knew he was overdoing it.
"Okay, I'll play along, whatcha got? Mono? The common cold? The swine flu?" The woman continued flipping through her planner with every new question.
"I don't know, that's sort of why I'm here... so I can go home and go to the doctor..." Blaine just leaned back in his chair.
"What are your symptoms?" The woman finally looked up at him and saw his face. "Okay, you can go home."
"Wait, what? I was just about to tell you what my-" Blaine jumped in his seat, but he didn't want to seem too excited.
"You look awful. You won't make the day. How do you get to school?" The woman smiled at him more gently and reached for the phone.
"My parents are out of town right now," he looked the nurse in the eye even though he was lying. She knew he was lying, it was on the records. He wasn't 18 yet and he was living with yet another person who wasn't 18. "I ride the city bus to school with my boyfriend."
There was a sickened look on the woman's face. Whether it was at the word boyfriend or not, which Blaine could assume it very likely was, she didn't say anything. "Well, I can't release anyone under 18 unless a guardian is coming to get them."
"What about my brother? Coop...er?" The idea popped into his head quickly, knowing Cooper was coming into the city today.
"He's on the list, so yes, I will call him." Blaine sighed relief when the nurse picked up the phone and there was an answer. He listened, trying not to giggle as he imagined Coop annoying the nurse with his pointing, even though she couldn't see him. After a few minutes, the nurse hung up. "You have an... interesting brother. Go get your stuff from your locker, Mr. Anderson. You're going home." She turned away and signed something into her book.
Blaine rolled his eyes. He hated the term ‘Mr. Anderson' and anyone who used it. That's what his father was called by most and Blaine was definitely not his father. He was a disgrace to his father, who thought he was living in the city with Coop.
"Hey buddy, feeling alright?" Cooper asked as they walked out to the street. He called a taxi and took Blaine's bag. He was a really good brother, Blaine had to admit. He'd probably give him chicken soup and ice cream all day long, watch Disney movies, and put the vaporizer on. Even though the question, due to the fact that he'd been sickly dismissed from school, was a bit rhetorical, Blaine still loved that his brother cared.
"Just a little sick... and strangely hot," Blaine wasn't lying about the hot part, though. He felt like he had a fever. Was he imagining it?
Cooper put a hand to Blaine's forehead. "Holy shit bro, you're burning up. Let's get you home," Cooper said, opening the taxi door and sliding in after Blaine. He listed off the address and paid the taxi driver when they arrived.
"Thanks, Coop, for doing this," Blaine grinned as he felt his brother's arm enclose him.
"I told you I'd always be here for you. Quick thinking, though, calling me. You're so lucky I was here, we'd have been screwed. It would've sucked, too, especially since you guys are 18 in like a week," Cooper winked at his brother.
"Exactly a week," Blaine looked over and raised an eyebrow, but he was beaming. "How'd you know that?"
Cooper opened the door to the apartment and gestured to Blaine to go inside. "Please, I'm your brother, I know everything."
Blaine laughed half-heartedly and lay down on couch. He forgot about his phone in that moment and blacked out. He woke up with a strange feeling in his lower back and an extreme headache. The smell of chicken soup made him all warm and fuzzy inside. Then, to Blaine's surprise, Cooper emerged from the kitchen, a bowl and tray in hand, wearing Kurt's blue quilted oven mitts. "Oh, you're awake!"
For a moment, Blaine sat confused, but then his aching head reminded him of a few hours before.
"I made you some soup, do you want it?" Coop propped Blaine's pillow up and helped his brother sit up.
"You're amazing, do you know that? And yes, I'd love it. Wait," Blaine looked down at his clothes, "Did you change me? And why do I feel..."
"Yes, I did," Coop cut him off, "Uh, yeah, funny thing there... You guys are going to want a new mouth thermometer."
Blaine nearly spit his soup out, "Cooper Anderson, you did not!"
Cooper chuckled, "I didn't know! Mom always used to do it to me!"
Blaine rolled his eyes, "I'm pretty sure those thermometers looked different, though, Coop."
"Oh whatever, shut up and eat," Coop joked. "So, your friend Angel wants you to WHAT?!" He added when Blaine handed him the empty soup bowl.
"What do you mean?" Blaine jumped up and saw his phone open on the table. He grabbed the phone and his mouth gaped open as he read the text:
‘FWD: It's when you just, for one night, go out with someone else to see if you're just settling. It doesn't do harm if both of you agree to it and then you talk about how you felt afterwards.' You and Kurt should try it, I mean you both didn't really know many gay guys. There's tons in New York!
