"Am I free tonight?" Blaine asked Kurt early in the morning.
"This is how I love to wake up." Kurt said sarcastically on the other end of the phone.
"Just answer the question." Blaine was impatient.
"I don't recall scheduling anything for tonight so I believe you're free." Kurt said.
"Great, because I was thinking about taking Rachel out to dinner."
"Oh..." Kurt said distraught, he couldn't quite tell you how he was feeling, "I'm happy that you're getting along with Rachel."
"She's amazing, we have so much in common and she's a superb singer."
"Really? What things do you have in common?"
"Broadway." Blaine smiled, "We both like Katy Perry. Although her idol is Barbara Streisand. We both grew up in Ohio and lived in New York for a few years. It's surprising we never crossed paths before hand."
"Great!" Kurt faked, "You seem in a really good mood."
"I think it's all because of Rachel. She really opened me up." Blaine smiled.
"I have to go." Kurt said after a moment of awkward silence.
"Alright. Thank you for the free day. Bye." Blaine hung up the phone then grabbed his cell off the coffee table.
Hey lovely -Rach
Blaine read the text message that waited for him on his phone, he smiled a little.
Hey :) -Blaine
You free tonight??? -Blaine
Yes :))) -Rach
Why -Rach
Just checking -Blaine
Be ready around 7, dress nicely ;) -Blaine
Why :D -Rach
Well... youll see ;) -Blaine
Blaine got himself ready for his day of nothing before his night with Rachel. He was so glad he was free. He wanted to take her out. Blaine called Kurt again. He needed assistance.
"Hello?" Came Kurt's voice in a question.
"I was thinking..." Blaine trailed
"Oh no." Kurt said recognizing the voice.
"No, I was just - you're good at romance, right?" Blaine asked.
"Yeah, I love love." Kurt said, "Is that why you called? Again?"
"I've never actually went out with anyone without it going horribly by the second or third date. I was wondering if maybe you could help me. I really like Rachel." Blaine said.
"Sure." Kurt hesitated. Blaine smiled.
"Thanks." He practically mouthed in reply, "Can you come over today? For a brief lesson?"
"Sure." Kurt replied with once again.
"Try to find what she's interested in. Get to talking about. You may want to up your knowledge on them. If she likes a band that's still around take her to one of their concerts. Or, with your fame, to meet the members." Kurt began his lecture as they sat in the den at Blaine's house, "Talk to her about your interests but don't sound self absorbed."
"But how do I do that?" Blaine asked.
"Relate it to things she likes. Like 'Oh, you like this band? I like that band. They're pretty similar. Maybe I can take you to meet the members of your band.' And then she'll be interested. She'll be interested in your band and what you're willing to do with her and her band."
"But-"
"You want to sneak your interest in the middle of her interest."
Blaine stood up, "Maybe this wasn't such a good idea..."
Kurt walked over and sat him back down, "Oh yes it is. You asked for help and I'm not going to back down. You're not either. With your dating experience you need all the help you can get. People are going to start believing you're a player and after that paparazzi mishap the other day..."
"Word didn't get out though. You can't go on talking about it."
"Oh, I'll talk about that as much as I want to."
Blaine knocked on Rachel's door and straightened his bowtie with his one free hand. The other was holding a bouquet of pansies. He let out a deep breath as he waited for to answer. After a moment of nothing he knocked again.
"One minute!" He heard Rachel holler on the other side.
"It's Blaine!" Blaine called just so she would know
"Okay, one minute!" She called again. Blaine sighed and waited. Finally Rachel answered the door.
"You are alive!" Blaine gasped. Rachel chuckled, "These are for you." Blaine handed her the flowers.
"Pansies!" Rachel put a fake smile on her face.
"You don't like them." Blaine stated with a frown.
"They're not my favorite. But it's the thought that counts" Rachel said, twirling the bouquet in hand, "I'll put these in a vase. They are beautiful." Blaine smiled softly. Rachel left for a moment then came back out, closing the door behind her.
"Ready?" She asked. Blaine wrapped his arm around her waist and began walking her out to his car, "Where are you taking me?"
"I was thinking about this nice restaurant on Second Boulevard."
"Ooh, what place?"
"Charlie's."
"Oh." Rachel said.
"What?" Blaine whined.
"It's just... that's a steakhouse. I'm not fond of steak."
"There's other stuff there. Chicken, fish..."
"Blaine, it just doesn't- I'll go, for you." She didn't want to tell him she was vegan until they got there. She didn't want to disappoint him.
"I'm sorry." Blaine said.
"No, I am. I shouldn't be so picky on our first date."
"First?"
"I wouldn't believe Hooty's to be a date."
"But-"
"Bars aren't dates for me. Hang outs is more like it."
"Oh. Well-"
"Can we just forget about it?" Rachel asked as they stepped off the sidewalk. They continued in silence to Blaine's car.
