Author's Notes: Blaine knelt in front of his five year old son, tweaking the tiny bow tie into perfection.
"But Dad, I don't want to." Each word was punctuated with typical child like contempt, it was roughly the twentieth time Blaine had heard those words that morning, however, this time Thomas added a foot stomp for good measure.
"Well, I'm sorry but you have to, Daddie's not here to help this morning so you have to try to be good for me, like we talked about." By the time Blaine had stopped talking Thomas had started fidgeting again, pulling at the bow tie irritably. Blaine sighed and straightened up. He began collecting Thomas' school things and his own car keys, running a mental checklist. If he forgot anything Kurt wouldn't let him live it down. When he was satisfied he had everything he took Thomas' hand and guided him out of the apartment. He managed to take Thomas' mind off Kurt's absence by singing to a Disney compilation Kurt had made before he went away. While Thomas sang away the car journey Blaine thought about his week away from Kurt, they were coming to the end of it, but still. Blaine felt like a part of him was missing. It had been fun pending a week just him, Callie and Thomas, but he wished the next day and a half would go quicker. He had a feeling Thomas' awkward behavior had more to do with Kurt's absence than anything else too. Callie found it easier, she was used to Kurt's business trips now, and being older understood it more, Thomas just found it confusing. Callie had spent the last two nights at a friends house since they were off school, and while Blaine missed her it certainly made sorting Thomas out easier. He dropped Thomas off with a kiss and a hurried 'I love you' and made his way to work. The kids weren't in today as it was a teacher training day, so he headed straight for his classroom and settled himself at his desk. Sarah, the french teacher entered through the open door.
"Morning Blaine."
"Morning" He replied cheerfully.
"What's the occasion, you seem chipper today."
"Mmm, one day closer to Kurt coming home." Sarah grinned knowingly.
"You two never cease to amaze me, the kids alright?" They chatted mindlessly about their respective families until Sarah got called away to a meeting in the languages department. Blaine started grading essays that had started to pile up, losing himself in his work so much that he didn't notice someone leaning against the door jam. He continued on, not hearing the soft clearing of a throat or pointed cough, so immersed in his work that the world around him cease to exist in scribbled annotations and crossing out. Eventually he sat back and pushed the essay to one side, he glanced to the doorway and a huge grin spread across his face.
"Kurt!" He crossed the gap between them in two strides and enveloped Kurt in a tight hug. Kurt laughed and returned the embrace enthusiastically.
"I thought you'd never notice me! I've been stood here for a good five minutes." They parted feeling elated and bubbly.
"Come on, it wasn't that long. I'd have noticed someone as gorgeous as you any day of the week!" His smile was mischievous and Kurt just raised his eyebrows at him.
"How are you here, you said your flight didn't get in until tomorrow, I wrote it on the calendar and everything!" Blaine perched on the edge of his desk, Kurt coming to sit next to him.
"Yeah, well we wrapped things up sooner than expected and managed to get a flight this morning instead, are you complaining?" He took hold of Blaine's hand and caressed his knuckles gently with his thumb.
"God no, Thomas is going to be so happy, you have no idea. I'm pretty sure he hates being left alone with me... at least in the mornings anyway." Kurt furrowed his brow, knowing that Thomas had been irritable from their daily phone calls.
"I'm sure he's loved it, don't doubt yourself baby, he just feels change more than Cal. I know, why don't we both go pick him up from school? We can surprise him, go get Callie and go out for dinner, what do you think?" Blaine kissed Kurt's nose playfully and hopped off the desk.
"I think you are a genius Mr Anderson - Hummel. I also think I need to take this home, because you are entirely too much of a distraction for me to concentrate here." He began gathering the pile of essays and pop quizzes, ready to take home.
"Is that right? And I'm going to cease being distracting at home am I?" Kurt watched his husband hurry round putting things in his laptop bag.
"No, but at least at home I can do something about it." he grinned, grabbed Kurt by the wrist and practically dragged him out of the building, both shrieking with laughter.
