Author's Notes: Obviously I don't own Glee. The characters are property of Fox/Ryan Murphy. The only thing I own is the story line, and Ember, of course. She's very much mine. I hope you enjoy!
There was a knock on the choir room door—a quiet, unsure knock, as if the person knocking was nervous about intruding. Kurt turned from the piano to see who was there, his smile dying on his lips when he didn’t recognize the girl.

“Can I help you?” His inner Glee-clubber kicked in and he started worrying that this girl was part of a competing club come to spy on him and New Directions.

“Are you Kurt Hummel?” the girl giggled self-consciously and took a few steps forward. “Stupid question. Of course you are, there’s no way you couldn’t be.”

“I’m sorry?”

“Oh, it’s just…God, you were always beautiful.”

Kurt was starting to get seriously freaked out. He stood up and faced the stranger, hands on his hips and a bitchy expression in place.

“Look, sweetie, I don’t know who you are. And that needs to change.”

“Bitchy as ever, glad that didn’t develop after I came along.” The girl smiled and walked the remaining distance between them, one thin, perfectly manicured hand held out. “I’m Ember.”

Kurt took her hand. “Kurt, but you say you know me?”

“Yeah.” Ember looked a little sheepish, and she glanced skittishly around the choir room. “So this is where it started, huh?”

“Sorry, but where what started?”

“It, of course.” Ember laughed lightly. “You and Dad.”

That made Kurt’s head spin. “Wait, what?”

“Oh, um, I…this is gonna be hard to explain.” Ember tugged on a lock of her vividly pink hair, chewing on her pierced bottom lip. “Da—Kurt—you might want to have a seat.”
